The NESTS Saga will always be my favorite Arc in the entire KOF series, it's like a combination of "Metal Gear Solid" and Dragon Ball Z's Android Saga into 1.
Don't forget the Clone Saga of Spiderman's 90's run being very influential

Nests saga is the "Spider-man: The Clone Saga" of the KOF series.
I remember a comment that said:
"You fight against Krizalid in the underground
You fight Clone Zero on the surface
You fight Original Zero in the sky
You fight Igniz in space"
By the way, I really like how in the manhua (chinese comic) adaptation of the NESTS Saga, Heidern, instead of eliminating all of Kyo's clones, decided to recruit them to be his soldiers in his mercenary group.

KOF bosses always follow a thematic hierarchy in each part. Its by design, not by accident.
Like the NESTS saga bosses. The higher the rank of the boss, the higher the placement of their stages, i.e. Lieutenant (Krizalid), Major (Ling), General (Zero), Commander (Igniz).
The Orochi Saga also follows a hiearchy, but this time religious theme with its bosses:
94 - Disciple - Rugal
95 - Enlightened disciple - Omega Rugal
96 - Priest - Goenitz
97 - God - Orochi
Character designs and theming are what I like about SNK and KOF. Like the name Ling for example. Its Chinese for "zero."
Krizalid's relationship with K' and Whip while remaining squarely in the 'villain' box makes him one of the most compelling characters of that era of KOF, and even of KOF as a whole. He's a tragic villain, which you don't see a whole lot of. As a side note, am I the only one who wants to see a 'Team Kula' featuring her, Diana, and Foxy all on a single team?

Kula's proven herself a KOF mainstay, so having her own personal team is a viable alternative to seeing her in Team K' _yet again._
Not only do we get Foxy's comeback, but also for the first time a playable Diana.
Maybe have one of Kula's old winposes added back in as an easter egg for putting them on the same team.
Good lord, the sprite work for these characters is unmatched in any fighting game.
The best thing about the NESTS saga is despite all odds (as to whats happening at SNK at the time), SNK still delivered and completed it.
Imagine the art team doing triple the load of animation works they normally do (KOF 2001) in previous entries, (thanks to loss of manpower) while using the same engine used in KOF94.
Such in-depth investigation is not child's play, it shows how honest you are with your work.

NEST is probably the most well know villains in the entire franchise. Thanks to them, we got some characters who became fan favorites and mainstays throughout the entire SNK line up! Thank you for covering such awesome bosses that put SNK on the map for the trope “SNK Syndrome”! :)

I'd definitely like to see what Clone-Zero would get up to in the new era. I always loved that he was self-motivated and found success when he broke off of NEST.
KOF99 introduced 2 of my favorite themes from the KOF series.
KOF99 have some of my favorite songs. Kyo's theme, and Krizalid's theme. And Iori's theme though.e.
NESTS is my favorite KOF saga because of the variety of characters. Also, 2001 felt as dark as '97 back then.

I found the NESTS Saga different, but cool in its own way. I usually manage to fight both Zeros decently, but for some reason I still struggle a lot fighting Krizalid and Igniz....and don't get me started on Magaki 💀...
Heres to the return of Krizalid, Igniz maybe the Zeros in KOF15. It is a close straw between Orochi and NESTS Saga but my edge goes to NESTS, I just love the idea of a Cartel Syndicate out for world domination cloning the crap of Kyo Kusanagi the posterboy, mainly one of many key things I love about NESTS is the introduction to one of my mains K’Dash the new poster boy the most based character whom not only I enjoy playing as but also see myself mirror this character as my personality is much like his and Iori’s and to me K’Dash is similar to Kyo in terms of his play style and his role as the posterboy and protagonist with Iori’s demeanor and characteristics is probably why this character is beloved to me and why I fail to understand why initially people resented this character originally during his debut in KOF99. This Saga also introduces one of my other mains Kula Diamond whom at this point is as iconic as Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui. I like all the Antagonists and iconic bosses obviously and the shift from a Clan of descendants sealing away a Demonic entity that their ancestors once did before them while confronting it’s followers and subordinates and tough ones at that in the Hakkeshu in the way of the main resurfacing threat Orochi to this more Sci Fi Cyber influenced story of a powerful Cartel Organization that may not necessarily be this powerful Immortal being with crazy cult followers whom inherited some elemental powers but easily in a different way almost as much of a threat and possibly a planetary level threat if Igniz had his way through augmented technology giving that futuristic Sci Fi element along with a badarse edgy protagonist I especially love we have a really captivating story and all these messed up experiments along the way all these tragic characters leaves for a dark grim storytelling I love, with amazing music throughout the Arc is why NESTS is my favorite Arc. Tales of Ash keeps it going and is a good follow through as well and continuation even though its a tier below NESTS and Orochi we still got to understand how high the bar has been set from these 2 amazing Arcs.

Do you think a redemption arc can happen for Krizalid and Original Zero? They are the most sympathetic of the 4 NESTS bosses. And there’s a theory that Sylvie is the daughter of Igniz since she got a quote from him from Verse, they are both of NESTS origin, and they have the same hair color.

NESTS was easily my favorite KOF saga. So many memorable characters emerged from it. Though it needs to be said that Ron is the coolest member of NESTS. Easily.

Maybe Original Zero also had a hunch Ingniz couldn't be trusted and saved the KOF Champions after his defeat because he figured they could handle the unproven traitor.

Krizalid should be Team Khronen's new 3rd member in KoF XVI, with an optional Boss Fight.
Unfortunately Clone Zero is likely to never be seen again given Original Zero has seemingly replaced him.
Original Zero I feel like should be similar to Rugal in XV in the future. Just a single entry boss, with a few interactions next time with like Kula, Krizalid, and Khronen.
Igniz, should never come back. Please lets leave him and his cheapness in the past.
These guys are Just Shocker but tooled for a fighting game. and it's honesty cool.

correction Krizalid is actually a clone of K' not Kyo 3:35
He is. But K' is also a Kyo clone, which was one step in creating the ultimate clone (at the time), Krizalid.
@Game you're wrong..and Im honestly surprised you don't know this..maybe you're not a fan of K'.. *K' is not a clone of Kyo* that's blasphemous K' is his own person a real human being, and he was abducted by Nests and then fused with Kyo's DNA to make him a spare sacred treasure and in doing so K' lost his memories of his past self..this is why Krizalid's death was kinda sad since he thought Whip/Seirah is his sister because he is a clone of K'
SNK lore of KOF states that K' is a Kyo clone. Despite the fact that K' isnt actually a clone grown from Kyo's DNA but a grown person imprinted with Kyo's DNA. Technically making him a Kyo clone. He wouldnt be able to able to use the Kusanagi flames otherwise.
Yes its iffy, but those are SNK's official words.
Lorewise, NESTS took several routes to create a Kyo clone:
A)Imprinting a person with Kyo's DNA (K')
B)Cloning K' up to 5000 times (Krizalid and K9999) making 2 successful quasi Kyo clones.
C)Actually making Kyo clones (Kyo1 and Kyo2)
D)Creating a biomechanical Kyo clone (KOF2k2 Kusanagi, theres an official KOF2k2 artwork of him by Falcoon with burnt skin exposing the robotic parts).
@@WhatIsMatter101 do you have a link? where does KOF state that? how does that make him a clone? like maybe in a metaphorical sense..because they have access to same to same power? but their fighting styles are completely different and i would argue K' is quite superior to Kyo, or at least an upgrade..and afaik lorewise in the ending of 99 it shows that K′ is a young man who lost all his memories when the NESTS syndicate captured him and injected the DNA of Kyo Kusanagi to replicate his pyrokinetic abilities that's all

It's funny that they were able to clone kyo and his ability to control fire which I always thought was more mystical in nature but they made it seem more of a biological sort of pyrokinesis

9:13 You can say all about the NESTS Bosses but you have to admit, they have the best designs of all the evil organizations in the KOF series. Especially Igniz.
The only exception would be Krizalid when he takes off his cool jacket. His special battle suit looks...weird 😅
If he comes back he needs a redesign or just make him wear his cool jacket from KOF 2001
Edit: I am probably the only person who prefers Original Zero and Igniz's themes from KOF 2001 over their 2002UM themes
Edit #2: I like the female versions of both Zeros in KOF All Stars, they look cool and pretty, especially the female version of Clone Zero

I feel like KOF XV ahould give us NESTS Bosses like Krizalid & Zero in Boss Challenge.
This saga always gets bashed but it was the one I grew with and honestly, the Clone Zero thing was a hiccup in the whole thing but besides that there was a pretty fun thing going on with the Kyo coming of age / identity crisis clone thing and the sibling story with K and Whip.
At least its miles better than whatever they are doing with Shun and Isla.
This Anastasia character in what OP had called the Amplified Spectres arc is one illusive woman.
Their story should have been longer, even by 2 parts.

She wasn't in 2001. She was a sub boss in 2002, which is a non canon game.

The NESTS bosses are as iconic as they are infuriating. They're lightyears ahead of an unmemorable boss like Verse, who is merely a cheap tool to bring back dead characters. Otoma=Raga isn't all that memorable, either.

Nests saga sucks so bad that SNK had to bring back Rugal, Goenitz, Geese and Yamazaki in 2002 just to make this saga as less disappointing as possible.
Nests bosses are not cool, dont have any charisma (one of them is redundant and farts on his opponents), and none of them, I mean none, has a background story.
I wonder why we didnt see them after 2002; oh, wait.
