      6 years too late but I cant agree more with your comment. Anyone accusing Johnson for being jealous is incredibly disrespectful.
      First and foremost, 100m wasnt even Johnson's event at all, no reason to be jealous.
      Secondly, watch Johnson's reaction to Bolt's breaking WR of 200m twice - at Beijing olympic and Berlin. Johnson's reaction was always filled with excitement and awe

    • @KitagumaIgen
      @KitagumaIgen Před 4 lety +53

      Yup, completely correct. When Johnson ran 1932 he had his similar moment - one of the other runners (Ato Boldon? Frankie Frederics?) commented something like "1932 is not a time it is a year". So he got his and greats appreciates greats. His only "envy" might be something along the lines "I would have loved to race against Bolt"...

      Yup, this one will last a long time. Going back to how long it took to drop from Ben Johnson's 9.79 in 1988 to Asafa Powell's 9.74 in 2007, a 9.58 given this same rate of progression "should not" have happened until the year 2067. I may be cherry picking taking Ben Johnson's WR instead of Carl Lewis' 9.92 after Ben was disqualified, but the way I see it was that a human being was capable of running a 9.79 in 1988 and 20 years later only 5/100th of a second were improved upon that, & then Bolt happened =)

    Michael Johnson, before Usain Bolt came along, was undoubtedly the greatest sprinter of all time.
    Note how both Johnson and Bolt share the characteristic of extraordinary humility.
