I may be cherry picking taking Ben Johnson's WR instead of Carl Lewis' 9.92 after Ben was disqualified, but the way I see it was that a human being was capable of running a 9.79 in 1988 and 20 years later only 5/100th of a second were improved upon that, & then Bolt happened =)
