Spent 25 years in the Navy on Carriers. Natural attraction
Hope playing carriers doesn't make you hate them now.
This is just what I was looking for. Thank you, you earned a sub!
+Aerroon thanks for the help!
+Lord Cerberus yeah those are pretty much why I play carriers on WoWS, and yep, I get an average of about about 8fps
CVs have plenty of brute force with torp bombers lol
Any help please, how do you command to attack planes itself,as in try to attack/shoot them? Thanks.
This is easily the most knowledgeable and comprehensive introduction to Carriers that anyone can come across. Bravo!
I got started playing carriers because i watched iChase's live stream during the CBT and i saw his carrier game play. Being a former starcraft player it looked like a lot of fun to have a RTS against enemy players that would play against me in their own way (non rts).
I continue playing carriers because i believe they are the best test of skill. a better player can keep planes alive, deal damage and protect a team. carriers are easy to play but very hard to master, which is why i find them the most fun to play!
I really enjoyed your video, as you said in the beginning it is an introduction but i thought it was put together beautifully and it was the best description for a manual torpedo run i've seen. i wish i had this video when i first got in to CBT.
***** i only mentioned that carriers are "easy" to play in that someone can press battle, select a plane group and then click on an enemy and everything will happen, you don't HAVE to aim, lead etc. the effectiveness might not be there but it can happen. just like DDs it is hard to play them very well. but in a DD if you make a mistake, you get blown up, in a CV you will lose planes, which you have more of.
I'm giving up on carriers, I have done everything you have suggested, I cannot get planes to attack, carrier continuously gets sunk. Other players say follow us we'll protect you, then they run off and leave me holding the bag. Hide in the corner they come down the side and get you. Carriers are a waste of time. I'm very frustrated by this.
I wanted to try carriers because I love the feeling of being far from the battlefield and sending minions to fight instead of me :> Also great video, 10/10 bell ring !
Carriers are the only ship type i want to play. Sure, the Destroyers have torpedo spam, Cruisers have a multitude of guns and Battleships have ballistic nuclear shells... but for me there is much more depth and strategy involved with Carriers. You live and die by the survivability and effectiveness of your planes.
That and you are not the first bloody ship to be drilled full of holes.
+mouseno4 Also i didnt actually know how to manually aim the torpedoes and bombs. I pressed Alt to choose my direction of attack but didnt know how to manipulate the aiming cone. Until now.
+mouseno4 but carriers are underpowered, because cruisers can stop a carrier attack altogether with a press of a button
+RaptorDoesCZcams It' their use. Cruisers are AA mobile towers. That's why a cruiser shall always be following a BB
You're awesome man, I'm just sad I found these guides after I figured out most of this stuff the hard way, however I found your tone of voice and pace of explaining the concepts very relaxing, thanks!
That guide was one of the first wows videos i ve ever watched. ;) now we need a guide how to dodge! Good luck with your way to slava
Very well seasoned vid. Teaches all the need-to-know stuff. Can't say that for all of the WOWS content out there. Well done!
You are unlikely to read this after all this time, but just in case: I advanced on all available lines except CV's to T8 (or beyond) and wanted to try out something new w/o having to abandon the game completly. Ironically, WG removing the ability to manual drop for T4 & T5 lowered the threshold for putting my toe into the water. I am a noob in my carriers, but so is everybody else: all we can ever do is autodrop. With T6 approaching fast, I really needed to get insight regarding how to do things manually. So tks for showing me!
I bought the Langley yesterday and watched your vids a couple of times each. Still teaching myself the intricacies of manual torp launch but I'll get it eventually. I'm playing it safe by battling bots until I get the basic controls like second nature and then move on to real players. Still can't decide whether to stick with USN with their better fighters or IJN with their more numerous torp planes. The only problem is that I sold the Myoki because I hated that turd of a BB before bothering to unlock the Hosho. So, I'm stuck with USN carriers unless I convert XP or re-buy that damnable excuse for a BB. Excellent videos Aerroon. I hope your frustration eases because you seem too nice a guy for sharing all that info. Unfortunately in today's society nice guys finish last.
Great guide! Finally I got a better unterstanding for my beloved carrier. Good job!
Saved in my header bar so I can watch sober - looks like great info. Will check tomorrow
I'm interested in playing carriers because I enjoy strategy. And nothing speaks strategy more than playing with a birds eye view of the battlefield and being able to influence all areas of the map; Scouting, spotting enemy torps, assisting ships, and eliminating key threats.
Thx :). I only have tier 4, so that shouldn't be a problem for a looooooooooooooong time :D.
I love playing support roles, and imo carriers are a ton of support to your team! So thats why I play them! Nice video btw! Hope you do more of them on all different kinds of ships! :D
A very informative basic guide, thank you i have subbed to your channel.
It was just what i was looking for big thumbs up.
Awesome video, I have been playing for several months and did the cruiser destroyer run down the tech tree. Found that the excitement of getting a better ship, was not satisfying since the next tier ship didnt have some magic newness. They were same little better each time. So to get the full fun of all that is this game i tried Battleships and , now i am trying for my first time carriers. I always loved red alert back in the day and carrier controls have that same appearance in play. So it sounds fun, why not.
Thank you so much! I was clueless, but I learned so much from this video.
Great guide. I've just bought my first carrier and the guide was just what I needed. I play carrier to support the fleet with an asset, which is able to move quickly from one part of the sea to another.
Thank you Aerroon. In my first battle i shot down 5 planes and made 7 torpedo hits and we won. In the next game I was our last ship at sea with 4 hungry cruisers chasing me as well as the planes from the enemy's flat top.
Nice and Helpful, after thousands of games in Cruisers at Wows ,I found the Carrier game-play a lot more relaxing
its nice to take a break and play aCV once in a while
thanks
I share this with all my friends that are starting with carriers !. Best guide ever !
***** They do indeed , since they always tell me to shutup after watching this because they already " Know " haha
Watched your video, got hyped up and went to my first battle.
Level 5 CV went after me, destroyed every plane I pulled out and camped me, preventing me from pulling anymore, while dropping torpedos and bombs on me.
That was fun 2 minutes of my life. I left battle after I lost everything. How fun!
i miss this old gameplay
I sometimes miss it too.
Aerroon it’ll be cool if they added cvs to the left side of the tech tree and it’ll have ships like Essex or the old cvs and these are the rework
And the right side is the old gameplay
Hi how do you do the manual plane control like in your commentary videos. Or are those replays with camera focus on planes and you are actually controlling them via UI?.
Brilliant. Subscribed, Thumbs up. I'll be watching this several times before I start on my first Langley.
Thank you.
Great video! Now I understand the controls a lot better. Next comes learning the strategy!
Aerroon thanks for the useful beginners tips. I am a good DD player so already used to delivering deadly torps runs. I think in time I will get the hang of playing CVs in a very enjoyable way.
Thanks Aerroon. This was very helpful :)
Great video and production!
Thanks for this video. I just unlocked the first Japanese carrier and there were some things that I wasn't sure about.
Great guide. Im wanting to play a carrier because honestly i've not done it yet. I'm really good at playing a destroyer, hand a lot of fun playing cruisers and putting round after round in people's faces. But lately have become somewhat dissatisfied with the poor RNG hit percentage of Battleships.
Thanks for the video Aeroon, it enabled me to buy a cv, play 2 games - score 9 torp hits, and finish the anniversary achievements. CV now sold and back to normal ships. CV play is an acquired taste I do not have.
Appreciate showing me how to fumble my way through.
thanks a lot aerroon !! this really helps....
especially on how to attack the destroyer in guide part 2, got 2 kills on destroyers trying to ambush me lol
btw, i have few questions
1. with additional captain skills, does your build have any possible changes in current version (0.5.6 - 0.5.7)
2. do torpedo acceleration skill affect the range where torpedo are armed ?
Thanks aerroon, needed a recourse.
thank you! I'm rolling with friends and a carrier will be a useful addition to the fleet they already have
nice guide and thanks for the subtitles bro!
I became interested in carriers because you can attack somone on the other side of the map
Great guide thanks, very clear and succinct.
There is a Mission where after the first two sections, to proceed I need to do the third section with a carrier. I have no idea yet how to operate a carrier and the last section is with destroyers which I am good at.
In my settings i have the Alt key set to look around how do i fix it and make it to manual attacks for torp, attack and bomber planes because i wanna learn the way of the carrier.
Great tutorial and just in time too because I just got the Langley! (love your accent btw)
Great tutorial Aerroon. I have been searching for a simple detailed tutorial like this for hours. One question, in Settings/CONTROLS what do you have set for "Give Order" mine appears blank.
***** Thanks. It appears to me there may be a slight bug with random settings. The third day of play I could not fire any guns on any ships. After hours of getting massacred my young grandson noticed that the CONTROLS have a faint slider and sliding down saw that the fire slot was blank. Again thanks for best intro.
Great vid thanks for the input on how to use a carrier.
Aerroon i have a question...can i change the torpedo spray on the cv?and if is possible how i can i do that?
thanks for this extensive video. it should be a training guide. Very helpfull when u get ur 1st carrier.
Nice walk through and advice many thanks
Nice vid! I'm excited to get into carriers and grinding my Wyoming for the Langley. I want to play carriers because I find carriers far more appealing than big battleships. That, and the Ranger looks awesome.
Nice work Aerroon. I switch from destroyers to cruisers and to battleships when I like to change tactics. Now I have another challenge with carriers. I am a senior citizen so I am a slow learner. Where I can find a printable chart of carrier commands?
I sadly didn't play the game soon enough to play the rts carriers and this really disappoints me because they really looked interesting, fun and challenging. And they really looked like more how they worked irl : multiple squadrons, coordinated attacks escorted by figthers, devastating strike but having to manage plane casualties, ... I still like the new carriers (even though i know they still need a bit of rebalancing, especially for t4 and 6 cv, and with their spotting capabilities) but i really would have liked a lot more the rts version. Great video even though it's useless now, XD
I want to try CV's because they were a big part of history and the approach and tactics for CV's are different from everything else in the game. Thanks for the intro.
Thank you for your video , I am new and I use Langley , I notes that some players can fly 2 fighters in the same time , how I can do that ? thank in advance
Is there a way to change the spread of torpedoes from the TBs? I've seen in other videos that they can select a wide/narrow spread.
with what keys are you selecting groups and setting waypoints . ? .
Well done. That really helps! Thank you!
Thanks, very useful. What program are you using to record the game-play?
What is the use of using left Alt on fighters. I notice in training room I can set them to fly in a 'direction', and even though there is no enemy they seem to use up all their ammunition. ?
That's a "strafe run". If you do it while highlighting a enemy air group(s) in that rectangle you can inflicted quit some damage, but you can't give any orders once you have committed to the strafe run.
watching your vids made me interested in cvs ^^ ty
Thx for the vidéo!! I am new in the game and I jusr unlock my firest carrier, so I found your video usefull!
Great vid thx , when I first bought a cv, like everyone didn't have a clue what I was doing after a miss click I ended up charging the entire enemy team with my cv , didn't go well😆
Thank you for the guide! Maybe i will look into carriers in the future. I am more of an Battleship/light cruiser guy. How did you get into that "singleplayer" map?
Ok thank you very much!
TY so much for this video.
Thanks for the great guide. Since you asked, I wanted a way to dictate the direction of battles.
Can you change the torpedo spread for planes like you can for ship-launched torpedoes?
Nice one, keep it up !
I needed this as well. Over 1000 games played and never with a carrier.
Excellent guide. I learned a lot! Thanks.
thanks for your insights very well done
Hi, I wanted to try a bit of everything and see what it was like and if it was the best ship for me to play.
Great video man! you have gained another sub :) i want to play carriers just so i can say i have tried it. i hear all the chat about it being just like arty and its scrub. but honestly its great fun and takes some serious skill. Your video really helped!
i have watched 3 more of your videos since then, and im not going to lie you are probably the best carrier commander there can be. my best game is 107k damage in langley im some way behind you haha
ahh ok thanks :) in your eyes what are the pros and cons of each line? and what do you think the other country lines will be like?
thx man tat was very helpful, just wondering does japanese cv can 1v1 us fighter?
Thank you. Carriers require a seperate set of skills and the challenge is nice. Also I served on the USS Kitty Hawk in the 70's.
Would you recommend USN or IJN carriers? I'm tier V in both lines, but the loadouts for USN look terrible up until tiers IX-X. IJN on the other hand seems to have fairly balanced loadouts all the way through, though the huge number of squadrons looks irritating.
Torpedo arming distance! I was wondering why clear hits would not register and the torpedo just disappears. So it's because the attack run was too close, or the ship has moved too close towards your attack vector by the time the torpedoes hit the water.
Well the reason I want to play carriers for the first time after some 1300= battles is that I'm trying to obtain the ARP Kongo and I need to shoot down 150 'planes. It is proving rather hard so far even with ships like the Atlanta and Kutosov, so I guess CV time. Also I'm trying to "do" the Project R missions and they have pearls available if you win battles in CVs.
EXCELLENT video. Tomorrow I'll take my Langley out on s PvE battle.
Also is there any way to re set the Captains skills ?
many thanks for the guide
Is there a way to change the spread of manual torpedo drop?
Now that captain skills have been overhauled, have your recommendations changed? I am wondering particularly about torpedo acceleration at level 3.
Great vid and helpful info. I hope I can challenge you one day CV vs Cv. :)
I play carriers because you can got a very good view of what's happening in the battle. Also you're the fastest to be able to support an ally who's in trouble.
Funny that this is the best guide out there.
Even WG have not produced a guide on how to use a class of ship. They should be embarrassed.
Nice guides, still dont get how you have such high scores and kills.
Geuss i have to practice more.
Do you by any chance have a tip how to coop with USA fighters, my t5 Japanese fighters vanish like snow before the sun making the game unplayable sometimes
how do you change so that you have more the one set of topedo bombers in the air on the langlay if it is doable
Ahh okay thx m8
Because I've always loved and was fascinated by aircraft carriers
thank you a great guide - very helpfull
ty 4 help, wanting to try carrier cos im wanting to be a jack of all trades, and prolly master of nothing, but it does look interesting and i only played once and didnt do to well, but i think that fits almost everyone, i think this vid will help me out alot.
How do you know the arming distance? I got few experiences where enemy CV dropped torp really near me and just goes nothing. Is it just by guessing?
Also, would like an updated commander skills especially because they changed some stuffs there.
Yeah, you get a feel for it eventually. Arming distance is actually based on time rather than torpedo speed (nowadays?). So different speed torpedoes arm at different distances too.
Thanks for the tutorial. I want to try carriers, because I have tried all the other classes. I may not climb up the tech tree very far.
I do want to know what do manual fighter do, i try that and it seems to kill every thing on sky even friendly bomber,
Is that true that manual fighter(alt+click) do friendly fire damage?
so it is not good to use when having dogfight or they chasing down friendly bomber
Very good tutorial. Great advice and clear directions as well as commands. Good stuff, thanks you. +subscriber
How did you get the bots/training area
Why is it that when i use carrier.
I do not have such an interface
Instead i have a manual control of planes?
Great job, thx alot!
Best video so far about Carrier's hands down. Also Aerroon mabey you can make a updated Video and give youre opinion about the USA carrier and the Japanese Carrier. Thx man !
great guide
Thanks for the helpful video! You just earned another subscriber!
Can u change the view from top down to 3rd person like other ships ? 3rd person will make it easier to try dodge enemy torps .
***** Cool , thx .
When I'm playing in my Cleveland, I always defend our carrier(s) at the start of the match. However shooting down planes and causing panic doesn't give you any exp and credits. Still a good carrier driver can determine the outcome of the match, so it is important that they stay alive and be able to kill the enemy carrier(s). If they fail to do so they make the life of our BB drivers very difficult. And enemy DD's can be spotted by fighters, which is great for our team.
Thank you this video is very useful
omg frst time see somthing so helpfull ! Thank so much !Sub+
