    The answer to the question about why women do better in school - it's because nearly everything in school caps the upper part of the range, but not the bottom. So the greater variance in boy's bad behavior is fully visible (crime, low scores, etc) but not the upper part (inventing new things, being years ahead of the curve, challenging authority/orthodoxy) and is rather actually punished.
