How to Make Your Bird Eat Fruits & Vegetables

- Hello Buddies,
Make sure to wash any veggies or fruits before providing them to your bird! Birds can get poisoned if the vegetables are not being washed properly.
Provide only fresh veggies and fruits as bacteria increases within time and they can cause infections or other illnesses.
Before providing any fruit or vegetable, double check that it is safe for your bird.

Hi! I watched this video a few weeks ago and I had to come back to update. I mixed diced fruit and vegetables with my budgie’s seed, within 2 days they were choosing the vegetable mix over their millet spray. I’m mixing apples, walnuts and baby greens. Thank you!
Last budgie i had lived for 15 years , was on his own from the start. Never had pellets , never had any fruits or vegetables. Just seeds and plenty of sticks which people say is very unhealthy . I guess he was lucky.
same! mine lived for around 11-12 years and i had an extreme poor diet for them because i got them unexpectedly when i was young.. seriously was so lucky she lived that long and i feel incredibly bad that i didn’t know earlier about this

@@L2002 it’s honestly been an entire decade now so i can’t recall but i think i cleaned it whenever i noticed it was dirty as a kid. For the most part, they were only really in their cage at night when they had to sleep. So they were mainly outside of the cage flying around which was always and almost usually clean.
Yeah my budgie is a few months old and is scared of anything but seed so hopefully he will branch out 👍🏼🤗

Try sprouted seeds! Just rinse every day and feed once they have little tails! They are a lot healthier and fresher!

@@paolabelizaire3297 I've tried feeding them parsley and cauliflower carrots and cucumbers...i put it in their feed tray everyday so now they have gotten used to it and eats it..but anytime i introduce something new they won't eat it right away.

These are some great ideas thank you. Will be trying a lot of them. So far I have them on carrot, carrot leaves, broccoli, spinach, kale but they don’t like fruit so I’m hoping this will help :)

I have already tried, spinach, apples, grapes, and strawberries. Today we bought some carrots and broccoli and are hoping our birds like it! ( although they did eat I little bit of grapes so I can always go back to those if I have to.😂🍇
Good luck, I hope they will try new things. Grapes are great but don't provide them too often as they're high in sugar content.

TUSM my budgies never eat vegetables or fruits it really helped me
Shredding stuff like carrot and putting it over foods they like (they love spinach) helped me with my budgies bc they were forced to taste it and ended up liking it. My cockatiel will nibble on some veg but to get him to eat more I warm up the veg by boiling it in water or microwaving for a few seconds or just warming in my hand because he thinks it's my food and he wants it if I eat it XD

It's been a week since I got my budgies I tried the tips i dipped th cucumbers in seed and clipped it in their cage they just ate the seeds and did not eat the cucumbers and when I try giving them fresh veggies they are scared of it.

I have been feeding my birds seeds and millets only, I thought that’s what they would eat, turns out I was wrong and they need to eat pellets and fruits and vegetables. I took my bird to the vet yesterday and turns out he has a big liver that covers his heart and is in risk of heart disease and needs medication due to very high cholesterol, you can imagine the bill, I’m not concerned about that too much just concerned at how I didn’t know about this before and now my bird has to suffer. He now has to take Lipitor.

Hey, budgies can eat rice.
If your budgie likes paprika you can give him chili flakes or a whole one.
I have 2 budgies and they don't eat fruit or veggies I would recommend putting seeds on-top of the veggies and they eat it all up 😁 your welcome 🥰
My budgies love celery, parsley and other green stuff but they are afraid of red coloured things. Red things are dangerous! They get apples from time to time and maybe a mandarin orange in Winter time. They get more vegetables than fruits.

Is it okay to give pet birds vegetables that are not organic from the grocery store? Like theres the EWG dirty dozen list that say which friuts and vegetables are the dirtiest with chemicals that they put out each year. So i try to buy those items organic if I do give it to them although I mostly havent fed them alot. But for the rest of the items that are not on this list that are conventionally-grown I am thinking that it shouldnt be a problem if they are fed. Just a wash under the faucet should be enough? Or I was thinking of doing a vinegar or baking soda solution spray to use on the items before washing them just so they would be cleaner. Thats what Im thinking. Someone does something special for the fruits and veggies they give to the birds or just a quick wash under the faucet?

Is it ok to give them more than once a day veggies or rice? My 5 budgies just love eating veggies or boiled rice, more than seeds/pellets. I know some veggies like carrots contain lots of vitamin A or spinach/kale iron and calcium and they should be given few days apart to avoid deficiency, but what about broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel sprouts or rice, can it be given twice a day?
Hey, Budgies need seeds in their diet, different veggies can be offered every day without a problem, if you have a variety of veggies and fruits and seeds, there should never be a problem and your bird are very likely to remain healthy.
Skip loves rice too so I get what you mean, but unfortunately you can't provide rice too many times a week as it's pretty filling for them with very little nutrition.
And don't feed rice if you have a breeding couple, as they will feed rice to their chicks and that's not nutritious at all for them and will most likely cause deficiencies.
@@Bird-Nuggets Yes they always have seeds and pellets as well. I keep 2 different bowls in their cages - 1 with seeds+pellets (not the colored one) and one for the veggies, so they always seeds. I remove the veggie bowl after 2-3 hours because they'll go bad, what I meant is that at evening when I replace the seeds/pellets bowls with new ones, they expect to have another bowl with veggies and they get grumpy because I guess they expect another veggie portion and that's why I was wondering if it's ok to give them another veggie dish. I still try to give them different fruits, but they still haven't eaten yet. They are 5 months old and I have tried giving them fruits since the beginning, mixed with little seeds, from my hand or hanged as treats but still they refuse, I'll keep trying tho. Thanks for the rice info too, I'll limit it to 1-2 times a week

They are technically toxic as the acidity could be too high for budgies.
