Blogging when you’re a beginner is tough. I'm sure you've experienced writer's block or even worse, no blog traffic. And without traffic, you can’t make money blogging or grow your online business.
Even for us, it took a lot of time, effort, and a simple blogging strategy that helped us drive over 220,000 visitors to our blog every single month (for free).

The first step is to come up with topics that are proven to generate traffic.
I’m sure you’d agree that you should write about something you are passionate about or interested in. But this can often lead to failure.

While you can make educated guesses, you can use tools like Ahrefs' Keywords Explorer to find the exact keywords people are searching for in Google. This will allow you to accurately gauge popularity and make smart decisions on what you should write about.
The second step is to assess search intent.
This means the reason behind a searcher's query. If you don't understand why someone is searching for a specific query, then you won't be able to get them to click on your article.
You can use a basic formula called "the 3 C's of search intent", which is covered in-depth.
The next step is to write a data-driven outline.
Writing out your thoughts is great, but it can also result in missing out on opportunities to get more blog traffic.
You'll learn how to analyze other top pages that are getting lots of traffic and integrate what’s working for them into your own posts before you even start writing your draft.

@Ahrefs Thank you for that very nice video about how to use Seo to create a blog post that people would look for. I would like to add 3 things about it. 1- First it is false to tell that "Organic search is "free": it is true that you don't pay for creating events for traffic to come on your blog but you pay for monthly charges of tools to explore keywords and competitive search. 2- It is a very different things that acquire traffic from a post and convert it into lead or fan through engagement. If Seo permits to acquire traffic, to get engagement you need to convert and so, a quality content writing is needed too. 3- Seth Godin said: "People are not searching for what they need, they search for what they desire". In other words, it is because users are driven by an emotional intent that they would read a blog post and feel engaged into it. That's also why some writers have skills in copywriting to facilitate that engagement. So Seo cannot develop until now, even using semantic search, how someone feels about when reading a blog post. So the search for the needs of users to get traffic on a post, might also be associated with a high bouncing rate. The paid search, email marketing and social search aims to find solutions to engagement of users aquired through organic search. So to the end, even if SEO factors are useful to be recognized by Google, it remains an uncomplete approach to make a perfect blog post because it just attracts users on the post and does not fullfill the true purpose of the post: to convert the user in a fan or a lead or a customer by making a call to action followed by that user or create a reputation through personal or corporate branding values from the authoritative knowledge the reader could feel that the author has.

At Ahrefs, we don't chase trending topics. It's mostly done through keyword research or giving something unique to the SEO community (ie. a data study).

Thank you for your tutorial videos. It' s like taking a college course :) I have the following question. If I need to use long-tail keywords that are slightly competitive, or not necessary "slightly", any, what are the chances that this blog will outrank other websites with high DR, UR, etc? As much as I know, on my website, I can keep adding backlinks and keep building my list of referred domains to build the rank for my website. For the blog post, it seems limited.
Google ranks pages, not websites. So if you managed to generate a decent amount of authoritative backlinks for your blogpost, you should be able to compete with other 'players' for strong keywords, as well as long tail keywords. The idea of long tail keywords is to find keywords with lower search volume but weaker competition, where you do not need strong backlink profile in order to rank high.

Based on my data from Google Search Console, I noticed there are some search queries (using same or similar keywords and being searched frequently) that found their way to my blog even though I felt my content do not provide concise information.
Nonetheless, using those search queries as a reference, would it be a good idea to come up with contents targeting those keywords derived from those search queries to boost my search ranking?

Using keywords and key phrases are two of the most important aspects of writing a good, worthwhile article. Not only does it make it more relevant, but it helps readers find it much faster.
But that does not mean keyword staffing. Your content should be still natural and easy to read and understand. Good content will include keywords by itself.

Hello there....i have question regarding keywords.
Suppose i have 5 keywords which i have included in a paragraph. Will google identify those keywords automatically or do i have to bold every single one of them... Or is there any other way.
Google analyze the whole page and determines relevance to search queries. I do not think bolding keywords will make any difference in rankings.

We do not offer any video about LSI keywords. Here at Ahrefs we do not use that sort of tactics. If you’re a decent writer, these words will appear naturally. No extra effort needed. And if they don’t, that’s fine. No need to force them in.

Never stop doing SEO, otherwise you will be behind. Just do it right, do whatever works and helps you grow.

I believe topic choice in the beginning will determine the fate of all efforts i'll be making. SEO should become an indispensable support in this case and of course in my content promotion, too, later.

Ahrefs uses clickstream data and provides separate metric for every keyword separately, like 'ahrefs', 'hrefs', 'ahref'. While Google Search Console, looks like, combine these keywords into a bucket.

You should start a blog in the niche you are knowledgeable in. There will be still low competitive keywords that you can target within any niche, you just need to know the topic you are about to cover.

There is no such a magic solution. You simply write about the topic and keywords will appear within your content naturally.

Subtopics usually mean the parts of the same article on the same page. Each subtopic usually covers one (more specific) point of the main topic in depth. Sam shows the example of them on 8:39

@ahrefs Hey Sam Oh, big fan. I actually signed up for AHREFS yesterday. It has helped me identify over 200 broken links in my blog that could hurt my SEO. I fixed them all.
Question. I am in the dress shoe, suiting, dress shirts etc niche for MEN. I have done a lot of research and search volumes seem either too low, nonexistent or way too competitive. I have been blogging for 2.5 years and all my "review" articles are within the first 1-3 spots on SERP. I even have a few massive guides that rank superbly. However I want to consistently grow my traffic now.
How do I go about to search for more competitive, niche genres? For example, I want to write a big article about say: The 5 Best Dress Oxfords". It is a little disheartening to see zero results or only the big massive companies like Business Insider publish rubbish guides that still rank high. Any advice? Would you be willing to do a video on a more competitive niche search for blogging article?

It's worth expanding your keyword options by studying your niche to see if there are other keywords you've missed out on (e.g. studying Reddit, forums, etc.) You can also look at niches that are closely related to your niche.
