While there is nothing wrong with blogging about your passions, creating a successful blog goes beyond just “you”.
There are 3 buckets you should excel in to get more traction.
The first bucket is to become a better writer. Here are some tips covered in the video:

Bloggers need to avoid general topics that have high-quality content. If you want to get success then jump with new topics or with outdated information. Readers also don't trust theory - they wanna read stories. If you don't have your own story then provide others that you know. For example, for my Russian and Ukrainian blog I wrote the blog post about Instagram promotion with a lot of examples of big brands. Without any external backlinks this article ranks on the top-3 and brings a lot of traffic.

Really enjoyed your Tips for Beginners Sam. You are a good presenter and there was no hard sell. Happy to subscribe. Do you have any tips for a blog which is just an opinion column - just like a columnist writes in a newspaper? I have been writing posts for years but there is no NICHE. Topics can be politics, humour, Trump; Ukraine, Pet Peeves etc. My hope was that if I am usually an enjoyable read, people will check back to see what I am addressing regularly. Not so. Most people won't read more than a tweet. I use Blogger and used to get maybe a few hundred hits a day - now 4-5! I never tried to commercialize it. Almost ready to give up. I just enjoy writing.

Hi, great video!
I have started a blog in Spanish this year about culture, travel and business in Asia. I though that in order to differentiate my blog from other travel blogs I would be publishing articles about cultural elements of Asian countries as well as geopolitical analisis so the reader can have a more "immersive Asian experience". But in fact some of these keywords, although don't have much competition, are not very monetizable as well.
Do you think this is a good approach or you would recommend another strategy?

Look at search volume for the keywords you target. Topics sounds good to me, but if there is a lack of interest (meaning traffic) then you will not get a lot of value from this content.

Just wondering what would be your advice to those who blogging is focused on a niche that is so specific that there aren't much competition to gauge and compare?
Then it might be worth asking whether it's worth focusing on that niche. Of course, if it's a passion project or it's an industry that isn't highly searched for (but exists), then it's still worth it. You might want to go one-level higher and target terms. E.g., if there are no search volumes for "keto" (just an example), then you might want to target other relevant-and-related areas, e.g. "paleo", "low-carb diets", etc.

I guess you can start from competitor research. Check what websites link to them and look for possible link opportunities there. Broken linking building should be a good option for you as well.
Linkbuilding strategies do not vary much from niche to niche.
