I am an Indian and also from her state and also a Syrian Christian. A
society which silences its authors is going into wrong direction. The
fact that she is giving her opnions without getting killed is the beauty
of democractic India. Try to criticize Islam like Taslima Nasreen from
Bangladesh, then you knows what happens. She was hunted down by
extremist islamic groups in Bangladesh and India where she took refuge.

I read her book "The God of Small Things," years ago when it was published. It was beautifully written and very disturbing. So if you are considering reading her new book, prepare yourself to read a beautifully written, but very disturbing piece of literature, because I suspect that it is both.

Arundhati is so bang on with her analysis. As an Indian living in delhi, a dalit I know what horrible world this Modi govt has made. India already had so many social fissures but now people are proud of them, be it nationalism, cow vigilantism, hatred towards muslims and dalits, hatred towards kashmiris or pakistan, it literally a fully developed fascist regime.
I just hope India and Indians see the light

I must admit, I was radicalized by reading one of her books and wrote a screenplay for a film, which was loosely based on it. Then I came to India to do more research which made me throw my screenplay in a garbage. Why? Because now I was hearing the other side of the story. Suzanna Roy constantly attacks Hindus, and just how she brings casteism in conversation again and again, which is actually illegal and almost evaporated and exists only in extremely rural parts of India. Corporations have no cast. Corporation's religion is nothing but money! Lynching? It's just how many poor and uneducated folks deal with things in India. She conveniently highlights the lynchings of few people who were suspected of illegally exporting cow beef and they happened to be Muslim. The other day a 65 years old Hindu woman was lynched by the mob merely on a suspicion of being involved in child trafficking. She was innocent, but what good was that when she and later few others were lynched to death by an angry mob. It's a heinous crime and cannot be singled out as politicians and herself conveniently do. I and my friends almost got lynched because the car I was driving touched someone's bicycle. It was a wrong place and the wrong time. At the police-station, I was told by a cop that almost all drivers leave the scene and run to the police station, just to avoid lynching by the mob. RSS Doesn't see Indian Muslims how Hitler saw the Jews. She's misleading! Many RSS volunteers are Muslims. I don't disagree with everything she says, but most of what she rants is a complete bullshit.

Arundhati Roy in this interview comes up with a ludicrous analogy around the Kashmir problem: "India's military defence of Kashmir (its own territory, by the way) is exactly the same as US militarily bombing other countries!" It's like accusing the owners who safeguard their house as being equal to pilferers and plunderers! To use Isaac Asimov's axiom, what she says is not just wrong but "wronger than wrong". She needs to think fairly and clearly.
Her argument is simple and reductionist (and hence vacuous to the core). Because Kashmir is a muslim majority state of India, India should be divided and Kashmir must be offered to muslims. The nature of secessionist movement in Kashmir has transformed so much over the decades that today, it's terrorists that control it and Pakistan that funds it wholeheartedly, and the so called "independence" movement is now being waged as jihad, war and killings done for Allah. The terrorist Burhan Wani's death is the best proof of the kinds of leaders and the kind of warfare that exists now. Roy is fine with all this. For her using pellets to deter dissidents is morally unacceptable but terrorism is fully well acceptable. I am shaken at the delusion of her intellect! She needs to think fairly and clearly.
Another issue. Roy not only gives a shaky history of Kashmir's accession to India but wilfully and almost callously ignores to talk about the shameful horror of genocide of Kashmiri pundits by muslims mercenaries because they wanted Kashmir to be cleansed of hindus. For anyone interested in this, read "Our Moon has Blood Clots : The Exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits" by Rahul Pandita, a rare book that talks about the genocide of hindus. Why this bigotry and discrimination on Roy's side, we don't know. We are all humans and we all deserve to live, doesn't matter which religion we belong to. Roy's callousness towards hindus mass killings is very dark, unsettling and deeply uncomfortable to see especially when she speaks on this issue. She needs to think fairly and clearly.
Let India remain a unified country because UNITY IS STRENGTH: a strong moral imperative for the stability of any nation today. Please don't support terrorists and their separatist causes. That's not how a country is run. Let the leaders do their job and if you are unhappy Ms. Roy, go contest elections and become a leader rather than endlessly and insufferably prattle around in interviews enchanting and befuddling naive and gullible viewers with your biased, discriminatory, stale yet dangerous political views. And stop giving these interviews please where all you to is whine, whine, whine; it's the same old rotten India-bashing script you talk out all the time, nothing new at all. In your own words, it feels much like "The End of Imagination".
Wish you good luck to do something "genuinely" good for the nation. Help citizens, not terrorists.

It's surprising how the comment section is flooded with her country people pulling her down and calling her names. Whether or not you agree with an intellectual of your country (or even other countries) or not, you should not defile them to this extent. A great man once said the country that does not appreciate gifted people are eventually deprived of them.
She has a narrative she is putting forth. If you have better or truer version of the events involving Kashmir or India why not write your own book and see how there would be myriads of people doing the same to you what you are doing to her now.
Calling her a traitor does not help because she said openly that she does not believe in the sanctity of maps.
I don't understand the psychology of calling her communist traitor, she can be communist if she wants, it's not like that's a legally unacceptable act.
These comments just solidify what she has been saying. Indian population who have the privilege of the Internet are obviously not from Dalit community that she is speaking out for. Shows how caste system is still very much engrained in India and runs deep in the minds of educated people.
Anyway, she is going down in history as one of the most prolific women intellectuals from Indian of this time, like it or not.

The ministry of utmost happiness refers to progress at a depth not shallow, however with the roof blown off the communication only brings it together. However the abyss of harshness harnesses that goodness is a part of yourself where even before and after the linkage the relationship doesn’t spoil. You are definitely bold but don’t become so much that the outcome of the strange bond where not only one but both of us get cremated. The ministry of utmost happiness is definitely your nest where you lay your eggs flying high apart in the skyline but I ‘m sorry I couldn’t spell out your ego to a little boy who doesn’t know even what deep relationship I.e. sex is all about. But the relationship before and after doesn’t remain to be the same after the ministry of utmost happiness. I’m sorry. Don’t be disheartened. Take it in a light sense.

We both know that Kashmir cannot exist as independent between 2 nuclear powers. Islam came to my place at the time of Prophet Muhammed through arab traders. We used to have an indian Islam, now our Islam has become more Wahabbi Islam with the money flow from Saudi. Wahabbi Islam makes you see the world only as black and white. I dont speak Hindi. Our 27 official languages are protected. We have more muslims than in Pakistan. India is still secular although we have 80% Hindus. Do you think a writer like Arundathi can survive in Pakistan if she had criticized islamists or Islam or Quran?

After all it is an accident of birth and if we are going to contribute with our insights meaningfully and reasonably this is first step to overcome. Anti national isn't a crime in and of itself. It becomes a crime when one's motives are questionable And out of all the issues Arundathi Roy brings to our attention a huge majority of indians seem to just stop at their first concern " She is anti national" are there by shut themselves off to some genuinely important urgent things India needs addressed. Please criticism her more thoughtfully not on the basis of nationalism. There are other s virtues that are far more needed in the world today

She is so wrong about a lot of things:-
    1) Democracy in India - The fact that she can talk, write and publish herself in India is a testimony that India is a healthy democracy and in line with Hindu values of celebrating diversity
    2) Geder- Her book conflates the concept of sex wth gender. As a cis gendered person she needs to stop falsely representing transgenders as it is highly wrong and misleading. She talks about hermaphroditism but that is a biological condition. Transgender is NOT the result of biology but is psychological and the result of gender dysphoria, which is far more convoluted and complex.
    3) Kashmiris- Again IG you want opinions from Kashmiris, call the Kashmiris and ask what they want . She is not a Kashmiri and therefore cannot represent Kashmiris.
Be authentic and represent yourself and do not appropriate voices and causes that are not yours as your appropriating their vices represses the authentic ones and will lead to gross misrepresentation.
