    Maverick Hybrid. I do zero towing. Just need a truck bed to throw dirty stuff, chemicals/oils, bikes, household things, etc. I figured if I need to haul a little more, I can always get a small trailer for those needs.. @@chelsea7xhf The Maverick may be a bit of a loss leader for them, but since lots of folks will add in at least one or two options and/or a better trim level (all at significant markups), they still make money that way. And they charge more for destination on the Maverick ($1,500) as opposed to their other vehicles ($1,200). Plus, having a high mpg vehicle in their fleet helps them avoid CAFE penalty fees. As one who has bought a number of cars and trucks over the years, I would urge you to hold off until you can take a good test drive. My most disappointing purchases have been the ones for which I didn’t invest enough time in the driver’s seat. These days I wait until I can either rent a vehicle I’m considering, or get the dealer to let me take one home overnight. With Maverick that’s not happening right now. I can understand your dilemma if you really need to get something in the near future. Good luck.

    Having no need for AWD or 4WD, it's a big waste of money (AND GAS) for almost everyone who is being duped into buying those drivelines simply because it's what's stocked/available on the sales lots; order yours from factory without that inefficient driveline - save big on your loan and your gas bill; in 2WD configuration, Maverick wins handily.
    This video comparison means very little to the vast majority of commuters who need open space to carry gardening plants, tools and supplies, the things most commuters will do with these trucks, and hardly ever leave paved roads.

    Damn! I wish the Maverick was available last year when I bought my Tacoma. I wanted a small pickup because my Corolla couldn't meet the demands of my job and lifestyle very well and didn't want to drive a big truck. The Maverick seems like it would be more practical for my needs and the value is very compelling! Hopefully, the AWD Ecoboost gets much better fuel economy than my Tacoma. If so, I might trade it in earlier than I originally planned?

      @M Maple That's honesty pretty close to what I get currently get with my Tacoma. I average 22 mpg combined even though my truck is supposed to get 20 mpg according to the EPA. It's beyond me why Ford doesn't offer a hybrid with AWD. That would be my preferred configuration.

    I love my Ranger. I would have seriously considered the Maverick instead if it had been available at the time, though. It is my daily driver that I occasionally use to haul stuff. Sticker on my truck was like 45k and a similarly equipped Maverick is about 36k with towing being the only real difference in capability. I think this thing is going to be a huge hit. Even though it is smaller, I think this truck is more similar to the Honda Ridgeline than the Ranger is (Unibody, awd vs rwd/4wd and similar towing capability) and the Ridgelin STARTS at $36k.

    I think the maverick is not going to be for the truck people as a whole. This is for the people who want something that can carry what doesn't fit in an SUV and with the hybrid, can be a run around town vehicle. That hybrid setup makes the maverick perfect for the DIYer who doesn't use a truck for a truck. 40 in town and 33 on the highway makes this a great deal for the money.

      A trucks purpose is to tow, go off road, or at very least haul big bulky craigslist things like couches, beds, bbq grills or 4x8 sheets of plywood. The 4.5ft bed is pretty useless for the latter part.

    • @MichaelJohnson73
      @MichaelJohnson73 Před 3 lety +4

      @@bubblewhip382 Ford makes plenty of trucks, they will gleefully sell to you, that do all of that and MUCH MUCH more. So what difference does it make if the Maverick bed is useless for that. Ford is not going to stop making F-150s or F-650s and replace them with this. A lot of people don't use their trucks for truck stuff, I was one of those people for years. This is still America you can't force people who don't go off road, or at very least haul big bulky craigslist things like couches, beds, bbq grills or 4x8 sheets of plywood, to NOT buy trucks. This truck reaches that market.

But since the rangers is made here and,I’ll take the ranger.

    This is just what I was looking for. A lot of comments I have seen suggest that if you are going to upgrade the Maverick, you may as well go with the Ranger. I am looking at getting either a FWD 2.0 Maverick XLT with co-pilot, soft folding tonneau cover, spray in bed liner, trailer hitch, full size spare and 110V outlet (no lux package) for just over $27k, or a 2WD crew cab Ranger with STX package (no bed liner, tonneau cover, or 110V power) that’s in transit to the dealership (no destination charge) for just under $30k. I’m going to drive the Ranger just to see if I like it any more than the Maverick, but I think the only advantage to to Ranger would be that it might arrive sooner. I’m thinking I’ll go with the Mav but I might change my mind.

I don't need AWD, I don't tow anything, and the overwhelming majority of my driving is city driving, which is where the hybrid powertrain is most efficient. To me, the Maverick is meant to be an affordable and efficient economy truck that is meant for light duty jobs like getting supplies at Home Depot. The 2.0 Ecoboost just doesn't really make sense for how I would intend use a Maverick. However, it's good that Ford offers the Ecoboost for those that want it.
