"HELLO, ZUKO HERE" - LEGENDARY LINE
I hate when people say that Katara threatening Zuko is out of character. The last time she opened up to Zuko and trusted him, he caused Aang to die (briefly, but still) and the Earth Kingdom to be in Fire Nation hands. Not to mention, he's not the first one to betray her trust. Remember Jet and Hama?
Agreed, Katara was initially very naive and trusting in the beginning, but she always gave the impression that you can only f’up once and she will never trust you again. Especially if you cause harm to come to anyone she cares about.
Also, she was about to use her special spirit water on Zuko, if she did that, she wouldn't have been able to save Aang later from Azula's lightning strike.
Also Katara lost her mom to the Fire Nation and she said it herself, that Zuko was the face of the "enemy" in her mind. So, metaphorically speaking, she forgave her mom's killer only for him to turn on her and prove that she was right in hating him
"Aang to almost die" Worse, Aang DID die. He specifically says "I was gone but you brought me back." Worse yet, he died in the Avatar state. And she almost wasted her spirit water on Zuko's scar and would have been unable to revive Aang. So, the last time she trusted Zuko, things went way worse than even you let on and could have been even more catastrophic.
Another thing, when Katara is fighting Azula, she throws a water blade at her that cleanly slices right through her hair (try cutting hair without a very sharp blade, see how it goes). If Azula didn't dodge, Katara would have sliced her in two. She was out for blood a season ago all for the sake of protecting Aang. So, yes, this scene is VERY in character for her.
Katara has all the reasons to hate and don't trust Zuko, ppl are just biased when it comes to Zuko (or Iroh) and would like for her to be like Toph, when she couldn't be more different xd
pointing out that "they haven't seen the show" is so crucial because some people watch this episode and get very pissed off with the gaang that they dont openly accept zuko, it also makes all the sense in the world for katara to have the harshest reaction to him considering she's the one who bonded with him before he went on to help azula basically kill aang
Those kind of reactors piss me off because in reality zuko doesn't need to join the group to teach aang firebending. And the gaang doesn't need to make zuko transformation more comfortable for him
It also makes sense that toph would be the more open minded of the group, not just because of her lie detector ability, but also cause up till this point she's only seen him once
@@chrisjacobsen7265 hah, "seen" 😅 you're right tho
interestingly I've seen some people have the same sentiment but from an anti-zuko perspective where they are slow to warm up to him after ba sing se, in their case they struggle to empathize with what zuko was going through when he chose to side with Azula, it's easy as audience members to see what a no brainer it is to join the avatar, but to an abused teenager desperate for approval it makes sense Zuko would make the choice he does because he also hasn't seen the show lol
i think what most fans forget is that Zuko comes from a family that's at the top of the Fire Nation, a nation that's not dissimilar to Imperial Japan.
for most of s1 he was actively hunting the Avatar with zero fs given to how he does it. in most episodes of s2 he tries to find himself... but ends up throwing it all away and betraying his uncle and choosing that life of power over other nations and ppl, just because he thinks he wants to please his dad. then in s3 he actually gets to enjoy that life (not mentally ofc, there's struggle, but he nevertheless returns as the prince with all of the privileges of the position) and not only that, when he suspects that the Avatar is alive, he sents Combustion Man just for his father not to find out about this "mistake". so, at this point, when he finally knows what he must do and what is right, Zuko _cannot possibly afford_ to mess up again, he cannot. he doesn't have that luxury anymore (if he ever had it).
that's why imo Katara's response is soooo realistic, she has all the reasons in the world to not trust him and say everything she said to him, she doesn't owe him anything. is the other way around actually, Zuko "owes" the gang everything, he has the responsibility to make up for everything he did.
i think that ppl that get angry at the gaang, especially Katara, for not accepting Zuko right away, forget this because they're obviously biased when it comes to defending Zuko and Iroh... like, ofc they're our favs, we've seen their journey and they're extremely well-written!... but they're also kinda missing the point: what Zuko and Iroh _were_ - and maybe more importantly - what they _represent_ definitely reflects in how ppl see them _now_ .
that's why i personally liked so much the scene of the Earth Kingdom soldier angry at Iroh in the LA series. i thought it was very similar to Katara's scene here and it was realistic, because - as much as i love Iroh and just like Zuko here - he deserved every word.
One very nice little detail: When Zuko and Aang bow to each other near the end of the episode: Aang does the fire nation greeting instead of his usual air nomad greeting. Even when making difficult decisions with former enemies, Aang still stays respectful towards the other person's culture.
such a sweet little guy, just like momo
@@user-ut6pm2ky5y😂
I’ve watched this show a million times and watched a million reactors, and I’ve NEVER noticed Aang does that there 😂
And Korra just throws all these really interesting cultural background and lore away and make USA : Animated Edition lol
It's always hilarious to see the first reaction to "Hello, Zuko here". Oh the contrast. Hits you like a truck.
I love that Zuko's defining character trait goes from angry to socially awkward after he transitions to being a good guy.
Not to bring down the enjoyment of Zuko just being hilariously awkward; but it fits really well with the same problem Azula has: neither of them were raised to socialize like normal people. This isn't just Zuko being a natural dork, it's also the result of his messed up upbringing and as always, just because he expresses himself in a more healthy way, eventually, doesn't mean he and his sister don't have very obviously the same trauma.
Take away the anger and you get an awkward dork who practices speeches before talking. Headcanon is a lot of the speeches he had in Season One like "I'll save you from the pirates." and "You rise with the moon, I rise with the sun." are just lines from plays because he is a dork.
Ah yes, I remember when Sokka took down the near unstoppable Combustion Man in a single move. What a legend.
Our Boomerang King
And the dude continues to brag about it nearly 30 years later
Everyone always forgets that blood bending is a full moon activity
yeah
seriously!
@@goldenxninjaxchick its just a small detail
The creators do too.
Yuh, I mean I guess it was only mentioned once so it's prolly easy to forget with all the excitement around it
Their reactions really make a lot of sense when you also realize that the last time that the Gaang has seen Zuko was in Ba Sing Se when he joined Azula to fight and kill Aang. Its been months since then, and they hadnt seen him once and presumably thought that he was just enjoying his time as an evil fire nation prince. So to go from seeing him help Azula kill Aang to seeing him walk up and say "hey, Zuko here" in just a couple of months would be a crazy surprise and super confusing for them given their history
Katara at the end is scary af.
Somehow, "I'll make sure your destiny ends right then and there. Permanently." is like 10x scarier than "I'll kill you", even though it means the same thing.
Ive been saying for years that Katara has a talen in horror genre. Remember puppet master and how she narrates her moms story? It sends chills down my spine everytime I watch it 😅
Honestly though? It doesn't. I know there's kind of a running gag where you can't use those words on a kids show, so obviously, lots of creativity needed to be used. But in this particular case, there was a full and vibrant set of emotions behind those words, seething with malice.
So, to me at least, there's so much more weight behind her taking what's most important to him as valid, and then threatening it--it being his destiny--that's why it was scarier for me.
@@Buddyguard120 "kill" has been said like 5 times in this show
It's also seems like a callback to what Avatar Roku said to Firelord Sozin almost word for word.
Imagine her as a bloodbending witch villain in a slasher.
I absolutely loved Ange's breakdown of the episode at the end. You're right, it could've been EASILY messed up. There could've been so many out-of-character moments. But there aren't. This show is insanely good.
It's a testament to the quality of this show's writing, for sure. They knew exactly how to do this without making it out of character, and not resolving everything in one episode.
It's too bad that the writers for the Netflix adaptation don't get this, make 90% bad writing decisions, and ruin many things in the coming seasons. At least they changed the headwriter for the next seasons and stopped using the volume which looked like a bad greenscreen. I am so sceptical they can save it but let's wait and see.
Along side the fact that from the Gaang's experience Zuko has given them every reason not to trust him, they are at their very most vulnerable right now and cannot survive another betrayal. They are just now starting to lick their wounds after a major defeat, losing most of their family, friends, and loved ones as POWs. It's just them now, the whole world is counting on less than 10 teenagers, one slip up and the Fire Nation wins. Solid reason as any as to why the group is so on edge and reluctant to accept Zuko.🤷♀️
Hama explained that Katara needs the full moon to use blood bending

Hush! We all return to childhood watching this show 😭
'Hello, Zuko here' might be one of the most iconic lines in the entire show!
Zuko, when he's allowed to be his dorky true self, is such a comedy machine.
This is the most realistic episode, We still remember that scene of Katara Crying and holding Aang literally dead due Zuko betrayal at the end of book 2. I would do the same that she did here cause that was heartbreaking 💔 and now he’s asking to join them. It’s gonna be hard to forget that but now Zuko is here with the team which is so great. ❤
Katara doesn't use bloodbending because
1- she hates using it
2- it needs a full moon to use it
Combustion Man is there to provide an antagonist while Zuko and Ozai's Angels are chilling at home.
Today I just realized what a big part of my day-to-day you guys have become, every day
I am really looking forward to rewatch some of my all time fav's "together" with you or delve into the discussions and theories you come up with. Just wanted to say thank you for all the frequent uploads and all the good times!
not zuko acting like hes me at a job interview 😭😭😭
Katara is the mvp of season 3
I think Sparky Sparky Boom Man was a way for the writers to add reoccurring danger to the Gang while Zuko and co are chilling in the Fire Nation in lieu of Zuko and Azula. So it adds a repeatable piece of action between start of S3 and Day of Black Sun. Now that the Fire Nation knows Aang is alive, Sparky Sparky Boom Man is no longer needed as a literary device for suspense. But as a bonus, he can be used as the transition to Zuko joining like you said.
Regarding his powers, just think of him like Toph's metal bending, Katara's blood bending, or Azula's lightning bending.
I always saw it as a “it became personal” kind of deal for Sparky sparky boom man. In the Runaway episode after Toph hit his third eye with the small pebble, the look on his face was no longer cold focus, but rage. Maybe his ego got hit by that and that’s why he’s not willing to stop hunting them even when his contractor is telling him to stop.
After the boomerang hit Combustion man, you can see that he put his hand in front of his forehead. If you observe how his bending work so far, whatever route his forehead is pointing at is where his combustion bending is aimed and it only explodes in contact with another thing. So by putting his hand in his forehead it became the contact needed for his bending to explode. Basically, he accidentally blew himself up.
such a fun episode. its the episode i was waiting for since i was first introduced to zuko's character and they still manage to make it feel fresh when it finally arrives
They tried REALLY hard to make Katara tell Zuko she would kill him, without having her outright say "I'll kill you". 😂
Are we sure she's not a smokebender cause she was ON IT
And honestly, I feel like "I'll make sure your destiny ends right then and there. Permanently." was WAY more threatening than "I'll kill you"
i wont lie what she said was WAY HARDER ANYWAY
@@jbearclowater That's just a you thing. Those of us who think rationally realize there's no difference at all between the two lol.
@@kingofbudokai It has nothing to do with “thinking rationally” so maybe you could stop sniffing your own farts for a second. There is a difference. Saying “I’ll kill you” simply isn’t as creative. Zuko is always talking about his destiny, so Katara throwing that specific word back in his face as a threat makes it more impactful in my opinion.
Everybody has a good moment to shine in this episode, even if it's small. But I always thought Toph was the reason I liked this episode so much. Earth is probably seen as the most stubborn element, but she's the only one with an open mind and ready to forgive. To be fair, Zuko hasn't nearly done as much to hurt her as the other 3, but even so it's nice to see how Toph understand how coming from a bad family can make it hard to grow out of old habits.
Yea exactly toph didn’t experience most of the Zuko drama cause when she joined the group Azula became the main threat
Zuko did literally nothing to toph
Tough joined the gang after Zuko had to go on the run from the fire nation Zuko never chased her. She has literally no history with him.
She doesn't have an open mind she has seismic sense and 0 negative experiences with zuko plus a lot of context that iroh gave her during their tea party
Earth, like the other elements, has many qualities not just being stubborn. Being grounded and straightforward are also associated with Earth. Like Toph says when first teaching Aang, "there's no different angle, no clever solution, no trickity-trick [...]. You gotta face it head on." In my view, that's also why she basically tried to just walk up to Zuko at his camp and talk to him. And I absolutely agree her not having been personally attacked or harmed by Zuko contributes to her seeing things differently from the others.
As a Taurus (y'know, Earth sign haha), I'd say Earth is more about being straightforward than being stubborn. Toph was very realistic in this episode and that's how I act almost all the time!
Avatar is such a good show that even at this point there are some of the best episodes yet to come!
Some people hate Katara's reaction at the end of the episode and I love the fact that you understand it.
The last time she trusted Zuko, Aang died and with him the hope of saving the world, and if it wasn't for the special water, he would have stayed that way.
So her reaction is reasonable and in character, especially with how more attached she's become to Aang after the incident and how the trauma this time would totally end her.
About the Topf detecting lies. Have in mind that in the previous episode azula showed that Tophs lying detector skills have boundaries. Of course Zuko is no azula but I think it’s fair for Toph to have doubt about her lying detecting skills (this is why she didn’t talk about it while Zuko was still there I think) and it’s also fair for the gang to not trust this skill blindly anymore.
14:47 one counterpoint is that Toph isn’t foolproof. Just last episode Azula showed she can beat the lie detector, and Zuko is her brother. It’s not unreasonable to assume Zuko could do the same, from their perspective.
Rather late, but it just occurred to me; Ange, where is your Secret Tunnel cover?!
Lmao dont even! 🤣
@@CarlieAndAnge Dew it
Zuko made a great addition to Team Avatar, plus he made a perfect Firebending teacher for Aang
And Sokka really makes the first confirmed conscious kill on the show. Azula tried but it didn't stick, and Aang def killed a whole bunch of people up at the North Pole while he was in the Avatar state and not himself. But Sokka takes the honors.
Toph accepts Zuko first for so many good reasons. First, the living lie detector thing that means she knows he's honest. Second, she only joined the team after Zuko became actually disgraced and gave up hope of returning home for a while. A lot of his active antagonism of the team really happened in Book 1. Most of Book 2, he was just a refugee wandering the Earth Kingdom and living peacefully in Ba Sing Se. Finally, Toph made friends with Iroh, who gave her some idea of Zuko's struggles from a different perspective. She has at least some of the context everyone but Katara lacks.
Likewise, it makes so much sense that Katara is the harshest toward Zuko. Girl does not take kindly to having her trust betrayed. There's also some compound trauma stuff happening there, I think. Zuko was probably her first and most frequent contact with the Fire Nation since her mother's murder. She explains to him at the end of Book Two that she'd come to see him as the face of the Fire Nation. Psychologically, she put all the hate and hurt she felt for what the Fire Nation had done to her personally and to the world squarely onto him. He actually became the avatar (in another sense) of the Fire Nation to Katara. Then they talked in the catacombs, and she realized just for a moment that he was his own person and a victim of the war just like she was, that she may have been unfair. Then he compounded all the trauma she already had with a betrayal that resulted in the fall of the last free city in the Earth Kingdom and the temporary death of her best friend. She reverted to thinking of him as emblematic of the enemy (even if the enemy wasn't the Fire Nation entirely anymore), as well as a really horrible person in his own right.
Great point by Ange that the group hasn't seen the show. But I'm also not entirely sure they paid as much attention as they could have done. Sokka says that Zuko has repeatedly tried to kill them. That's almost entirely incorrect, with Combustion Man maybe the sole exception. In fact, Zuko has repeatedly tried to go for nonviolent solutions when he's chased them. The first time they met, Sokka attacked him twice, and he repeatedly acted to disarm Sokka without moving to take lethal action. When Aang offered to give himself up in return for the safety of the South Pole village, Zuko agreed and kept his word. He attempted to bargain with Katara to get her to turn on Aang instead of torturing her or something else. He hired a bounty hunter whose creature incapacitated prey without killing or otherwise harming them. Whenever he firebent at them, it was either a fair fight (versus Aang or a master Katara) or a warning shot (when Aang asked him about being friends or he wanted them to leave in the abandoned city). When he defeated Katara at the North Pole and took Aang, he could have killed her so she couldn't chase him afterward. He didn't even try to hurt her farther.
Now, fire's scary, and Zuko yells a lot. And absolutely, Zuko did burn down Kyoshi Island (who in his view were harboring his enemies and did fight his forces). But if the team actually analyzed his actions, they could have probably seen the guy was trying to bargain with or incapacitate Sokka and Katara and capture Aang, always abided by the rules of warfare (except in Ba Sing Se where Azula ran the show), and has a history of preferring nonlethal solutions, no matter how angry he gets. Their annoyance is reasonable. They're free to view him as an enemy. But they also should have been smart enough to correctly assess the threat level he represented and who he was as an enemy.
Yess. Sparky sparky boom man was the perfect name. They never should've changed it. 😂😂
12:10 What Zuko said mirrors what Jeong Jeong said. That's what made Aang trust Zuko.
and even if zuko wasnt lying nothing proves he'll stay like that, when talking to katara he wasnt lying and still went after them 5 min later like ttoph knowing hes saying the truth shouldnt correlate that much to the team decision making
Everyone always forgets but Bloodbending can only be done during a full moon
I love that if you take away his hot-headedness, Zuko's defining trait is social awkwardness
Yes!!!! I've been looking forward to "Hello, Zuko here!" for so long!!!
I'm just so excited to the next episodes :3
Combustion Man's purposes: 1) to give the Gaang an antagonist to fight while the world believed he is dead and Zuko was back home with his father - the show needs that tension and looming threat. 2) he had to be mysterious in order to make him more intimidating, hence why he was given no backstory or dialogue. 3) to introduce another unique subset of fire bending and show that all of the bending disciplines have unique applications by rare and talented individuals. he is absolutely important to the story.
This + the most important part is actually Zuko's story making more sense this way.
1. Zuko thinks the avatar is alive and does nothing.
2. Zuko thinks the avatar is alive and tries to do something about it.
Which of these 2 makes more sense?
@@rizvan1632 yes they already got that he was a plot device for Zuko's redemption arc. not worthing mentioning again.
katara literally threatening zuko with DEATH is soooo good. its so intense and it makes sense. katara DID trust him once, and he completely betrayed her. she feels like they simply cannot tolerate another setback, and zuko is really dangerous if he wants to kill them and they are not prepared for it. but she does realize the practicality of their situation. so she accepts that zuko is gonna teach aang firebending, but she wants him to know that shell be ON HIS ASS to see if hes gonna do anything even slightly suspicious. its so understandable from all characters and all angles. such good writing, i LOVE it.
I will agree that Combustion Man is underutilized in this show, but besides from giving a way for Zuko to act before and after he's decided to join the Gaang, it also gives a plausible way to put the Gaang in danger pre-invasion without the whole "Aang's alive" thing from being spoiled to the Fire Nation as a whole.
ZUKO HAS THE BEST ARC!
Omg im getting so excited for you guys to watch the finale 😁
This episode in a nutshell:
"Hello. Zuko here."
Time for the Zuko chronicles!🗣️🗣️
It always makes me sigh when almost every reactor glosses over the fact that Toph essentially snuck up on Zuko in the middle of the night and he reacted on instinct
Regarding Toph’s Lie-Detecting:
We did just see a few eps ago that Azula completely stumped that ability, so considering Zuko was ostensibly raised by the same people (they don’t know what we do about his upbringing) her vouch might not seem quite as infallible… Plus the understandable resentment the Gaang feels towards Zuko can’t help, regardless of honesty.
zuko isn’t as good as azula at anything though, i’d still trust my built in lie detector. she’s just an exception lol.
@@chance757 Based on what we as the audience know, definitely. My point is that they don’t know enough about Zuko’s training to completely rule out him having that same ability (even to a lesser degree), on top of him having (unwittingly) “fooled” Katara in Ba Sing Se.
On top of all the other villain-ing he’d done earlier in the series.
@@Boggsy.understood. i agree!
Combustion man is one of the most mysterious characters in the show. My guess why he wouldnt stop is because it was a matter of pride. Aang had evaded him like three times at this point, and he's supposed to be the best assassin in the fire nation.
Hello, Zuko here.
🤣😂🤣😂
Sparky-sparky-boom-man was not going to take any deal to stop. It's personal to him. This group of kids humiliated him.
Damn i love this reaction sm, finally a reactor that gets the deeper meaning of the eps not just hating on gaang
Saying that toph could check if his is lying would be enough, but he wasn't lying in ba sing ce too. He was still very conflict but not lying so they can't still just trust him. And they saw that azula is a great liar. So toph its not 100% accurately
Hello, juicy drama and plot development here
I think with Sparky Sparky Boom Man at that point it wasn't about the money anymore and he just wanted to kill them for messing him up and getting away it was more personal at that point
"Hello, Zuko here". Someone please put this on the 'one of the best line in anime history' list
I think combustion man serves also as a direct antagonist during the episodes where the fire nation thinks Aang‘s dead.
Sort of keeping the pressure up a at least a little.
It's important to note that Toph had literally never met Zuko in a situation where he's been the aggressor. She's only heard about him and been in the same space as him ONCE. It makes sense that she's the most open minded.
Also we're not there yet but like you said, it could have EASILY been a "I GUESS WE HAVE NO CHOICE, C'MON"
Also let's take a moment to appreciate that the writers didn't give Zuko a "redemption" too early. Had he joined with them in Ba Sing Se, it would feel like him being GIVEN redemption, and not him seeking it.
REGARDING the Assassin, his role was simply to act as a hand of Zuko (because he can't literally hunt them) I think it was just there to have SOME active threat when they're in hiding.
Also also COMING UP, MY FAVOURITE EPISODE.
Great reaction!
Just remember before this last time they saw Zuko was when he helped get aang killed
the assasin is a nice mysterious character, the more you explain about him the less mysterious he becomes. It's a really nice character and makes the world very rich in debth
Zuko: "I'm so glad you've accepted me into your group!"
Darktara: "I. Will. Kill. You."
my boy ZUKE ❤
katara was having trust issues is completely fine
We definitely needed more combustion man lore
zuko hereeee
This is like the 6th channel I am watching ATLA reactions with. And then probably the 6th channel to watch TLOK too. This episode never fails.
Now begins the life-changing field trips with Zuko!
14:34 i want to say that even if zuko wans't lying, i think is fair that they don't trust him, katara said it herself "you have change in the past" and it's true, he was a change person but at the end of the day he chose azula and aang pay the price.
I think The assassin was Zuko’s insecurity. He knew deep down that Aang was still alive and if anyone found out it could ruin his homecoming. And by him in the end defeating the assassin/saving the boy he was trying to assassin, and that being the defining moment for the gang to letting him in, it comes full circle for his redemption ark. And the assassin himself shows that there’s so much potential in each bending art. Blood bending, lightning, metal, and now this! It’s subtle world bending and makes you think “how far can each element really go?!”
10:20 Remember how Iroh said the combination of the 4 elements in one person is what makes the avatar so strong?
Well, this is a display of how avatars are the only ones that can come up with technics that take parts from different bendings.
Aang creating the small tornado and kicking it like it was a rock.
This king of things has already happened before and starts happening more towards the end of the series. Try to spot them.
Something that I don't see too many people catching, Sparky Sparky Boom Man doesn't stop attacking because Zuko isn't affiliated with the crown anymore. He may be the prince by lineage, but he severed ties with the fire nation by leaving to help Aang. So Sparky Sparky Boom Man doesn't listen to him anymore.
The nicknames you guys give add so much still cant get the Shredded Titan whenever i watch reactions and they use the actual name
I'd love to know how many variations Zuko went through before settling on "Hello, Zuko here."
Hey Zuko here!!!!! 😂 It's been the best meme for years.
Combustion man gets very little explanation in ATLA, and only gets a bit more in Korra. I won’t say anything about what happens in Korra in case you guys are going to be watching that, but there are a few details we can infer about him. First, he uses his own unique subset of fire bending named after him called combustion bending. It’s a little similar to Roy Mustangs flame alchemy in that it ignites the air to make explosions and unlike most bending the only movement it requires is breathing and visual/mental focus. That means its weakness is breaking his concentration or limiting his visual focus, both of which we see the boomerang did. The hit made his vision blurry and so he was only able to visualize what was right in front him, meaning the explosion only traveled that far and so blew him up instead. If you were wondering why he didn’t use combustion to break out of the ice that Katara put over his face in the runaway episode that’s why, because all he could see was the ice he would’ve blown himself up.
Apparently when Zuko says, "Zuko here", he doesn't actually know any of the Gaang's names besides Katara's. So he hoped with that introduction, they'd introduce themselves too (to which they didn't-). 😂
I think the main reason why katara is so against Zuko joining is because last time she trusted him and he went back on her trust, Aang got killed.
I think combustion man’s role was to convince the gaang that Zuko was being honest because he did say that he hired combustion man when he could’ve lied. If Zuko just showed up when combustion man did they could’ve thought that he was just trying to fool them into trusting him or if he had said that Azula hired him maybe the gaang still wouldn’t have trusted him, so Zuko being honest about it, and then Zuko taking him down or helping on it, could have been combustion man’s role
And we are not even at "that'S rough bro yet" XD
“rough buddy”
"HELLO, ZUKO HERE" - LEGENDARY LINE
I agree with Carlie, that the show didn't need the combustion man. Some fans think he is cool addition to the show, but I think it's a little weird that he doesn't fit within the normes of bending and the viewers aren't told why he has this power. His powerful third eye is just there I guess and so I think the assasin could instead have been someone strong with firy weapons.
Just a reminder: Bloodbending can only be done during the full moon. It's not something Katara can do whenever she wants, especially not in the middle of the day.
it still baffles me that Ozai's voice actor is Mark Hamill... he's Luke Skywalker, the Joker, Chucky, and Ozai :D
So the lore behind combustion benders is explored in official novels about another avatar. Since it won't be touched on in ATLA, I'll say minor spoilers ahead:
It's a subset of bending that is made, unlike other subsets of bending that require skill and possibly genetic luck (metal bending and bloodbending). Combustion benders were basically tortured into developing this skillset to be used as weapons. They're hidden well in the Avatar world since a. they're unethically made and b. they're extremely powerful so only people with wealth and a thirst for power use them to gain control. At a range they're almost unstoppable, yet having an explosive power makes them the most vulnerable type of bending. Imagine a fleet of combustion bender during sozin's comet... it would be nuclear levels of destruction. It requires the bender to exert a ton of energy (the breathing in before the explosion) to create a spark so they must take breaks and refuel before attacking again.
I think Sparky sparky boom man is to show Zuko's change to Gaang. He ordered him to kill Gaang and then he himself try to protect the gaang from him.
That must have been some fire Zuko threw if it could burn TOPH's crusty feet.
yeah, the first time he was friendly with Katara he wasn't lying either and we all know how that ended.
Ah yes, you finally get socially awkward Zuko.
Zuko here
Toph will always be the OG of this gang, you won't survive without toph
I don't anybody told them that the original Voice Actor for Iroh passed away during the show. 😕
19:20 I’ve seen people say that the assassin in the end didn’t listen to Zuko because the assist had a personal vendetta against the gang since the last time they saw him they weakened him. And judging by his reaction, he had never been hit in the 3rd eye before because he was surprised. So he’s pissed that they got the better of him. A theory ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Zuko is me trying to make friends XD
Aang gang Zuko is so wholesome
katara the coolest person i know
I'm always so conflicted. I'm totally biased towards Zuko since him and Iroh are my favorite characters. We know what Zuko's been through as the audience but they don't. We know how much he was hurting, we know his backstory they unfortunately only know that they tried to trust him and Aang basically died. It's such good writing that you see both sides.
Overall, I’d say that the assassin served 2 purposes for this season. First, since the whole fire nation except for Zuko & Azula believed Aang was dead, he was the main antagonist for the Gaang during the first half of the season. The second purpose is kinda what Ange mentioned because it was Zuko risking his life to save the Gaang from the assassin which led to them being opening up to trusting him and allowing him to join. Without the assassin, I’m not sure what he could have done to get them to start trusting him.
