      I still have my 04 R1. Bought it new and although many new models have been released since, I have test rode them and I can honestly say that when I jumped back onto mine I decided not to trade in. It's still blisteringly quick and looks awesome. I used to change my bike every 4 years, but nothing else on the market has ticked the boxes the way the 5VY has.

      @King Sun I was very lucky, just happened to be looking when it was listed. Both a 1998 and a 04 listed on a Friday night 4500 each same guy. I immediately responded with cash right now if the bike you are selling is the bike in the pics I’ll take it. I still barely made it being another guy had responded before me apparently and almost bought both. He ended up with the 98 and I the 04. I wanted both and have continued my search for a clean 98 ever since. This guy was the original owner of both bikes and kept them immaculate. It’s still my baby today, my only bike I’ll never sell.

Exceptional outside condition but Needed valves service,clutch basket and is still leaking from somewhere i havent found yet. Just done valves and full service on it plus a pair of 22s bridges. Tomorrow gonna try finish with the leakage issue i think it might be coming from a belly seal.

      @RacerRed  Před 4 lety

      I don't know if i would recommend the seat. I had to modify the bracket for it to fit on my bike. It still doesnt fit like it should. For almost $400 you would think it would fit like a dream. Also, its comfortable, but not a magic solution. It sounds like bar risers could help you out a lot. I'm thinking about getting some of those.

      @@RacerRed I had the 98 R&W bought original. One piston seized up, in 2021, now I'm on an 05 (red) She'l pull harder in 6th, than the 98 could in 5th. It has the Devil aftermarket slip ons, the flush mounts, zero gravity wind screen and the drilled aluminum mini levers, also, integrated rear brake & turn signals. I replaced the lead acid battery at the end of the 23 season, with lithium, it saves about 2 pounds, it starts a lot faster and the throttle response seems even crisper. While no slouch, the legendary 98 being powerfull, light and compact, the 05 feels lighter, and easier to handle, and with a lower CG. The longer stroke 98 had a little more torque off the line at low RPM, but the short stroke, oversquare 05, bascially turns into a jet turbine above 6K. This is the 8th, big fast, Yamaha supersports I've owned since starting out in 83. Including YZF & FZR 1000s, and FZ-750s.

    I have 04 R1, really fast and stable. Main flaws are starter motor which gets dirty inside (brushes wear) and wont start engine properly, pain in the ass to replace it, generator rotor magnets tends to fall of and destroy stator, unbearable to ride on hot days, main cause is catalyser Y-pipe, easy to replace with aftermarket item. Recall on primary TPS for all 04 and some 05 models.

      They definitely arent known to be the most comfortable bikes, thats for sure! I have like the R1, so far. Believe it or not, its my "comfort" bike for when i want to take the girlfriend on a ride. My other bike is a really uncomfortable dual sport, so its not the best for long trips with passengers. I might get a long range bike in the future if i want to do trips across the country double up, though.

From that moment i had one thing in my mind for over a decade. I was 27 years when i finaly bought a 2005 model and rode it for the very first time. Now 3 years later i can say it's the best bike i've ever bought, it was definetly worth waiting a decade. I hope you will own one soon, i can already imagine the big smile on your face.

      yzfr6 in 1998 when the R1 came out I was on a zx7, wanted the R1 so so bad and it took me 4 years to save up with selling the zx7 when the time came and bought my first new 2002 R1. It may have been my best bike ever I rode it so so many miles. End of 03 it had 36,000 miles on it. I’m now on a mint low mileage 04 and it’s now my new favorite ever but there are a couple things about the 02 I miss mainly the low end grunt. The 04 makes up for it with way more up top. The main thing is my 04 just turns so dam good. It’s unbelievable how well it turns with a set of Bridgestone rs10 190/55 rear 120/70 front combo. Try that combo and you will never go back.
