- Checking out a specialty 9mm round from CorBon. Does it perform like it claims? Is it a gimmick, or a great defensive option? Heavy clothing ballistic gel test using a Canik Mete MC9 and Glock 17.

What's also great is that feeding issues should be non-existent with that profile!
I would imagine so.
Great point.
Very few places have this ammo and the only one place I did find it was $22.00 for 20 rounds and $10.00 shipping. I buy 50 rounds of Federal law enforcement HST 124 gr grain+p for $29.00 and free shipping when they have a sale which is quite often. I know it perfoms well. The power ball ammo has been on the market for quite a few years now. For some reason it just never gained popularity.
@@wrgj4411 Because it lacks in penetration. If it can only do 14 inches here chances are that'd be even less when it's actually used in defensive situations.
@@wrgj4411 That’s a good deal. Where do you usually order from?
Pow'r Ball is also legal in New Jersey for CCW because it's not a hollow point. Stupid laws
I recently traveled across the country, changed out my ammo to Critical Duty just because I didn't know which areas have anti-hollow point laws.
That one is simple ... Only New Jersey .
That is stupid.
@@robwilson3749 Yes ! New Jersey is stupid !
That is the dumbest damn thing I have ever heard. That is just asking for people to use FMJ. So when they shoot someone, they also get granny behind them, and little johnny on his bicycle behind her.
I used to work for Corbon before it switched hands and made those and the .40 and .45 cal hollow points and we always had really good success with all of it
So are these old rounds from those days, or newly manufactured (and available)?
I have a box of the 135 grain 40's, rated over 1400pfs.or was it 1325? I'd hafta go digging through the safe.
New rounds… it’s changed hands a couple times since I worked there but as far as I know they’re still running all the same equipment to make them
Seems to be pretty good stuff! These cartridges reminded me of an old timer that me and my dad used to visit when I was a kid. He would melt that Gulf paraffin wax in all of his hollowpoints. When it would dry, it would expand and look a lot like these! I remember my dad asking him why he did that. He said that he did it to help keep the hollowpoints from clogging. That was over 45 years ago! I think the old man was onto something way back then. Whether it really worked or not I’m not sure. But the old timer at least thought about it back then.
It's nice to see a manufacturer put correct numbers on the box. It's also nice to see it do what it's supposed to do.
It’s also nice to see a manufacturer use normal carry length barrels to get velocity readings instead of a hunting length barrel
its slower than box with 1 inch extra barrel thoughh
@@WayStedYou You're correct, but it was close enough. The people that test ammo sometimes say, "chronographs don't always agree." Also, altitude, humidity and temperature might make a difference.
@@jackschmac You would think it'd exceed not be 12 fps short with an extra .5 inch barrel over the 4 inch box velocity.
I can’t believe this stuff is still around. Definitely early ‘00s vibes.
Corbon back in the game. Amazing the multitude of things we develop to kill each other. LOL. 😂
Dang, that Powerball definitely hit the jackpot 👍
777!
You know? CorBon used to be one of he absolute best.... then they kind of went down hill, didn't keep up with industry advancements, didn't upgrade their equipment and they really fell behind. BUT, seeing this test. It seems like they have brought their quality back up again to phenomenal. This might be my new carry round. I'll have to go through at least 500+ rounds and find zero issues before I'll trust it. But, so far, I have to say I am IMPRESSED.
What's up y'all, Jacob here, I love his videos even on this gloomy day in Wisconsin, tools and targets brightens it up. 😊 There is something beneficially mesmerizing about his personality
Appreciate that!
His personality, his delivery, the tech set up, everything is very well done and thought out. Honest, useful reviews. One of my favorite CZcams channels, along with Buffalo and Paul Harrell.
Yeah, that's weird
I thank you for keeping the Ammo Manufacturers honest. With ammo prices today it helps my buy good SD ammo.
Carried those in the early 2000’s, glad they would have worked had I needed them to.
Good stuff.
I've be curious of these, and am going to grab a box, you know I've watched more than 100 testes and yours are the most comprehensive, and covers facts, No BS, and the truth, I'm proud to be a member of your great channel, and rocking the red badge, Thanks Brian. 👍🇺🇸
Back when those first came out, a big selling point was that the bullet had the same contour as a ball round, and they would feed in anything. I had an HK PSP that was fussy about hollow points, but ran the Pow'RBall perfectly. So that turned out to be true.
Which HI Points like
Old school corbon doing a great job.
This channel is the damn Price is Right game show, but with inches instead of dollars, guns for hot models, and you don't get to see what the next showcase showdown is until you have watched the first😂
🤣🤣🤣 Come on Dowwwwnnn!
The Glaser name was big deal in he 90s with the Glaser Safety Slug. This new defense ammo is a winner because it does everything it is supposed to do perfectly. Good to see ammo meet expectations as advertised rather than fall short like so many others have. Thanks for another great review.
The round certainly performed as advertised much like the Hornady stuff with their polymer tipped HP bullets. This round in the 357 Sig caliber gets a1600 fps velocity with 570 ft. lbs. of energy.
That stuff is moving, didnt disappoint. I hope your life is as good as it seems on the range! much love from south eastern NC!
Thank you sir. Can't complain too much!😎👊
I have this in 380acp. Never tried it but bought a box for the safe
This 9mm surprised me.
Yes it did, might be a good option especially for a shorter barrel. If you get a chance to test the 380 version Id love to see it, although probably not a widely carried round.@@ToolsandTargets
I’d like to see a test done on .380 powrball as well.
I would also like to see this tested in 380 🤔
This always seemed like a prime candidate for FMJ loving surplus pistols.
You’ve heard about ‘micro-plastics in your blood’, now get ready for ‘macro-plastics in your A zone’! 😂
I find myself self watching alot of your tests and it finally hit me
You know what would be a cool test?
No one ever tests the same brands different weights in the same gel block.
It would be awesome to see something like Corbons 100gr Powerball vs the Dpx 115gr vs 100gr Urban Response ect to get even a better understanding of how one manufacturers line up proforma against each other.
I've been watching ballistics tests for probably 15+ years and I've never once seen anyone test that way, if it's multiple rounds it's always different brands competing against each other.
Who wouldn't love to see something like (for 40 cal) HST 155 - 165 - 180gr for example, next to each other?
Dude, you don't slow down. Respect.
My EDC for my 9MM is CorBon 125 + P. Used to carry it for duty ammo many years past. So confident with it that’s all I carry in my EDC 9’s. Thanks for another great test !! The ammo works every time.
I want to hit the Powerball not the Powerball hit me! Great video as always! I might have to switch to those if they are available. Your the man!
😂 😎👊
Corbon always made outstanding Ammunition
In the 90s I swear Corbon made a 45 +p 230 grain round that was advertised at 1175 fps. We were shooting some at a steel spinner at our local range and thought we were missing. Turns out the spinner was rusted and the bullets were just punching through.
I use these in my carry. Nice to see great performance. Thank you
This stuff has been around for decades and for good reason.
After buying a Walther P38 in 2005 ,I found the only non FMJ ammo that fed reliably in it was Pow'r Ball.
Nice to see CorBon bringing their A game! They used to be my go-to ammo with their 115 gr +p+ truncated cone round back in the 90's.... then someone else started buying my ammo for me and I went to 124 Golddots.
Cor Bon is rockin' it on your channel this week 🎉 Incredible to get over 400 fpe from a 3.1" barrel. Great option.
Very nice, Tools. Don't know where you found those, but awesome!!!
You sure have been busy lately. Between tool and ammo reviews, you must be exhausted.
Keep up the good work, brother. I enjoy every video!
The Late Jack Cannon Invented the Power Ball Glaser Safety Slug in the 1970's. I had the .357 , 9mm , .45 ACP.
Jack Cannon patented the Glaser Safety Slug, Peter Pi Patented the PowRball.
That worked well even in the short barrel. Might have to pick some up.
Yep
I'm more impressed than I thought I'd be. I would not feel ill armed with this load.
Several years ago, this is what i carried in my 1911 45’s. Ive always liked corbon. Ive switched to gold dots for my 9 mm’s, but it looks like good ole corbon is still a good choice.
Looks good, like to see a test of the .380 powerball when you are able to. Thanks for the video. 😊
😎👍
I like the performance. I carry the 45ACP Pow'RBall in a mil-spec 1911. They don't make this anymore. If they do I can't find it anywhere. I have 3 boxes of the CorBon Glaser 45ACP. Glad I bought it when I did. Thanks for the test. Enjoyed it!
The MC9 makes another great performance. Agreed 100%. Great results on that ammo really good penetration and expansion on both pistols. Good commentary and test once again buddy! CorBon is impressive, would definitely put that on the good stuff list. Thanks for sharing be safe. ⭐️⭐️🇺🇸⭐️⭐️
These have been out a long time, I had a picky Kimber 1911 compact that's older and it would double feed a lot. I got these hoping the rounded front would work better because I heard the old compact 45 1911's liked FMJ more. Didn't help the feeding, but glad to see they're good still. I always liked Corbon as a 'not big-name' manufacturer.
Nice!! Surprised is the word I’d use too! I thought they’d be too light to get good penetration if they expanded nicely. I’m glad I was wrong. Personally I’d like to see a couple more inches but technically they did perfect. Awesome test again good sir. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
seems like some really good performing stuff. I like it. by the way the gel jumped it was a nice energy dump.
for 9 mm I like seeing 400 ft/lbs or more for a 4 inch barrel, nice seeing a shorter barrel able to reach that, a short barrel with duty size performance
This channel is costing me alot of money... in a good way.
Nice of CorBon sending you these rounds to test. You definitely got a winner with these, and 🐍 🎲 🎲 for the receiver. Tools gets his chicken 🐔🍗 dinner! ♠️🎩🎯🎱🇺🇸🏁🇮🇱🇺🇦🔱🌻💮🌸🌼🏴☠️🏹
Nice performance the poly tip helps reduce JHP 25-30% failure rate. I wish Hornady loaded Critical Duty that hot.
The "Glaser" and "Mag-Safe" rounds I remember from the 90's were filled with #12 or #9 birdshot. They were supposed to disintegrate through drywall, etc. Haven't seen them in years tho...
Supposedly popular qith air marshals. Less chance of over penetrating when in a beer can full of bystanders.
FYI
Ballistic machinist has a 380 new copper expanding round called the intercepter , I know your channel does a lot of 380 testing
Works well in smaller. 380's that have feeding issues. Like pocket size "Tools "
Pretty good performance. If this is the older design then there is no sense in changing it. Does fine like it is. Nice fireballs on a couple of rounds. Good stuff! 👍🙏
I use corbon 135gr in my g22. More than enough for home defense. Great test tools
I remember these used to be marketed for home defense because the bullet supposed to break up in drywall
Thank you for texting them I carry them they keep the weight down in the high capacity magazines. I like the 124 grain underwoods to but they are heavy with a mag full
Cor-bon always been top shelf ammo
"You can't win if you don't play." I'd say you won big time!
Good video, it's always nice to see ammo perform the way it's intended.
I thought this was going to be a Dud test. But it looks like the Powerball is a winner! Hey, at least you didn't forget your mag for the Canik! 😄
I have them in my P3AT Keltec pocket .380 because it can have feeding issues with some hollow point self defense ammo.
That seems like an excellent urban carry round.
Cycles great in my 45 year old Sig Sauer P6.
Looks like you hit the jackpot with these. I've not seen them before.
9mm soft points are actually surprising balanced round if you find them magtech had some and these kind of remind me of em
Looks like a winner, thanks for this test, I will have to keep my eyes out for that one, keep the great test coming
😎👊
I used the 45acp powR Ball almost 20 years ago, great ammo. The 45acp listed 165gr at 1250 fps, 573ft lbs.
This I have to find. 👍
Great test and awesome results.. I carry 45 acp version of that ammo and i always wondered how they would do. Thanks my friend.
Money in the power ball for sure! I’d run this stuff all day. I might pick some up in fact.
hmm looks like they finally got the numbers right. i've seen older tests, where the ball didnt move out of the way, but they were much older videos
Nicely done. And impressive results.
Those did a really nice job. 👍
I’ve never bothered to pick up any of this brand because it’s at a premium price and I was unsure of the performance. Looks like good stuff!! I recently tested some browning x point jhp’s in a few calibers over my chrono and the performance was nice pretty spicy. I’ve probably watched all ur stuff and don’t remember you testing any. I don’t have any gel but it might be a brand to throw into the mix. They look nice and are affordable. Like always another highly entertaining video!!
I would definitely use these in my carry tool
Another great review! Thanks gor allnyou share with us!
Tools&Targets, I’ve been subscribed to your channel since 3-12-22 at 7:48 PM. Wow! Two years of watching you. I think you were at 10k subs at that time.
I've seen these or a version thereof for years and figured it was just some gimmick. Glad to see I was wrong! I might have to keep an eye out for these!
Thank you for a great show!
I am Impressed with that ammo ! Thanks Tools for another excellent video !
Love your clever word usage and lack of "theatrics" as in other sites
Appreciate that!😎👊
GOOD LUCK finding Pow'Rball it's been around for 30 years and it's unicorn rare
This is current production.
Try some of their rifle ammo, cor bon makes awesome ammo
Would you be able to do a top 3 9mm hollows video? I love how extensive your catalog is, but I'd also like to see your personal opinion on all the loads you've ever tested
Another great test video! Thanks
I have a few rounds left in a box that I bought quite few years ago. It was used in the bedroom gun and was cycled through several years back. Your video made me wish I'd bought more back when I got them. CORBON made quality ammo. Thanks.
These are new production. Still making them.😎👍
@@ToolsandTargets Thanks, I was completely unaware of that.
Reasonably impressive...i've heard of the brand, just never seen any around...
Same here.
I'm a little confused as to why they applied the Glaser name to this round; the original Glasers were pre-fragmented projectiles designed to not over-penetrate or ricochet. I was a little surprised that these performed so well; like you I'm not generally a fan of light-for-caliber bullets but they've surprised me a few times. This would be great for someone with low recoil tolerance.
It's good to see some good carry rounds again. Fantastic test brother tools
Interesting is the word of the day here, though I've long settled on barnes 115 grainers for making gary robert's list while having all the recoil of range fmj ammo.
Wow dude, down/over here in Yuma, Az, we've broken 100F, again today.
@@hotrodray6802 Gotcha!
Another good test T&T! Might have to try some!
Very impressive! I might have to acquire some of this.
Great test, Tools. Nice energy dump and good enough depth. Keep 'em coming!
😎👊
Awesome 👏🏻 thanks for sharing another great video brother
Those did much better than I expected. Good for them.
With all of these tests, what is your go-to carry round?
You should do a top five video.
It picked the jelly pretty darn good. I like ammo that works.
Thanks Tool Guy.
👍👍great test on some good ammo. Thanks Tools
Success! Thank you. Good to see effective performance. I imagine this would be very effective. Looks like it hits really quite hard for such a light bullet. Well done!
Interesting. Nice to see something work well.
I really like this channel. Excellent all around
