Man, I remember watching this episode the day it was uploaded, I've been a long time fan of Famicom Dojo, been watching since 2011. In fact I got my first Famicom that year for my 15th birthday, still love playing it today. Keep up the good work over there, Sean!
Alexander Ross Thank you! Check out the dedicated Famicom Dojo channel if you haven’t already; we just did a livestream complete playthrough of Shadowgate for NES.
@@SeanOrangeI wonder what happened to that proposed part 3 of the retro 3D episode. That guy with the glasses is probably disappointed that nobody is going to talk about his favorite system. I feel bad for him.
@@joshuafrias2415 Yeah, we really should do that. Short version is that we ran into logistical problems filming Virtual Boy games. And then the Virtual Boy broke… 😣
I owned Zaxxon 3D for the Master System and the 3D glasses back in the day. Couldn't play in 3D for long though due to headaches. Thank god they provided the option to turn the 3D off.
Nice Scott Pilgrim reference (when you KO’d Sean by unplugging the glasses and he turned into a pile of coins). That definitely went over my head the first time I watched this video, great flick indeed!!!
Well, there's one of two things I can think if that you mean. 1) There's a Japanese SMS that has a cartridge slot which lets you use all those backwards-compatible games, since the SMS (in Japan and the US) is just a repurposed Mark III. 2) You can use the expansion port an an American SMS to add a cartridge adapter that will let you plug in SG-1000 series and Mark III games. MexicanWaluigi has a video about it! ;)
Okay, Guys I just discovered an editing failure. At 1:16 you can hear Sean saying okay as supposed to giving Phil a signal that he can start acting. What's weird is that Phil begins before the okay.
Real D and other film glasses use polarized light to send a different image to each eye. The projector overlays both images at once, but only one eye sees each of them. The Famicom 3D System and SegaScope 3-D both used LCD shutters, because these systems would alternate the image each frame in an interlaced fashion, and the shutters were timed to when each frame is drawn (hence why they need power). That's why it doesn't work on LCD TVs -- the refresh rate is too fast.
SMS 3D is good. First machine we had back then didn't have nes one of the very few. 3D make sure you have 1 solid image if your seeing double with glasses on it's not working right. Poor connection into the audio jack in. The card port usually is the problem it gets loose after so many years.
The Mark III games absolutely work on the US Master System with the 3D glasses, I was just playing them a few weeks ago. The only issue is that the Japanese cart doesn't fit, so get a Master System flash cart and load it up. Games play just fine from any region this way :)
That last part was a joke. We should be able to capture the video fine. The real issue is priorities. I do apologize it has taken so long. We are trying new approaches to prevent that from happening in the future. Hopefully the summer-to-fall run of episodes was an indication of what we want to do in the future, but often there are outside factors that get in the way which we can't control. We're hoping to do something soon to help mitigate those issues. Stay tuned!
@retromanpresents Yeah, we didn't want or intend for this part to take this long, but real life has a way of interfering. ;) Part 3 might take a while to do, but only because we'll be getting back to regular Season 2 episodes in the mean time.
It has been over 1 year since part 2 was released. It is turning into Duke Nuken Forever. I know it is hard to do cature video from Virtual Boy. The hardest thing about it, is playing the games threw the view finder screen on the camera. The rest is easy. If other youtubers like JamesNintendoNerd, MetalJesusRocks, Gamester81, and many others have made gameplay videos, then you can to.
@SinisterSally We aren't REALLY dissing it. ;) In fact, we will be doing a review featuring Phil Bond there; we're just doing a long tease for it, and juxtaposing expectations of what people might think about the history of 3D gaming.
Are there Internet video acting awards? If so, we need to start a campaign for Phil Bond for his work in this series. Great vid as always Vinnk and Sean, but they need to come out closer together. It's hard waiting so long to get my Dojo fix!
It's not just you -- we haven't completed it yet. We're currently working on a couple of more regular Season 2 videos, plus some other goodies, before we get back to this one. Apologies! We'll get there.
So usually I like to play coy, but in this case I think a straight answer is warranted. It was superseded by the question "Where is (the rest of) Season 2?" The 3D Special sort of shoehorned its way in there because of the release of the 3DS, which made the Famicom 3D System quite topical. It's on the docket, but after this news HUGE slate of Famicom Dojo we're currently filming and editing. Also... do you know how hard it is to capture video from an actual Virtual Boy? :P
@Tubewings She's the ninja from the "Train Your Game" ninja fight in front of the "What Nitnendon't" episode that kicked off Season 2 (and was seen again at the start of Angry PC Engine Nerd). She's actually filmed a few more scenes that have yet to be used, including our upcoming review of the Neo Geo! :O

Awesome episode guys. So was there any heath risks early on from these 3D games? I'm just a bit curious. It sounds like that could've also been a contributor to it's disappearance from the gaming market.
@LarryBundyJr Yeah, I think that was the guy whose video I saw about the PAL version of the SMS glasses. The 3D games weren't terribly expensive here. The only reason I don't have OutRun or Line of Fire is because I literally couldn't find them listed anywhere! I think the most I paid for any one of these games was $15 (often much less), which I think comes out to £10. Man, I don't even have that character on my keyboard! Good thing you typed it first. ;)
@HeyMama555 Did no one catch the Scott Pilgrim reference in Famicom 3D System special? Granted, it was entirely contained in the "Next Time on Famicom Dojo" bit after the credits. This scene was just a callback to that, hence why "Sean 2" says "not again"; he's wearing the exact same thing he was the first time he was punched out. ;)
@therealhardrock I was marginally aware of the Master System. When I was younger, I remember there being a SUPER CHEAP bundle of Altered Beast and a console, but at the time I thought it was a Genesis. Upon reflection as an adult, I realized it must have been for an SMS bundle, because the Genesis had just come out at the time, and TurboGrafx-16 was gearing up. I knew of no one who owned the Master System, but plenty of people who had a Genesis. Marketing is everything!
d00d, I HAVE tried. I wouldn't have answered your question if I hadn't investigated it first. The pins on an SMS are narrower, the board thinner than a Mark III game's board, and that's even if the Mark III game would fit through the SMS slot (which it won't). The only want to do it is through the expansion port. Now, what you CAN do is play Mega Drive games on a Genesis 3, because the slot is wide enough to accommodate the cartridges. But that's 16-bit.
@@SeanOrange "Simmering" Means, Right? Give Me The Third Part Of This Famicom Dojo Retro 3D Special, Or Else. I Need To Get Its Ideas For Is Upcoming Projects Brainstormed For Their Broadcast.
@Progearspec Yeah, that's the drawback for trying to review/show 3D games when there's no good way to display it. It seems like there are videos out there on CZcams that puts the interlaced 3D video into CZcams's 3D format so you CAN actually watch it in 3D. I don't think you're able to intercut 2D video with 3D video, but maybe if we figure out how to get it to work we can release special all-3D versions of these episodes in the future! :D
