I remember the U.S government banning Kaspersky products within their departments way back in 2017. So, it's not just the current conflict that is setting this precedent. countries like Russia and China have their businesses subject to state intervention. This is why, thankfully, the U.K government finally listened to security concerns and changed their mind about using Chinese software to power its 5G communications infrastructure. Reading the comments here, I am shocked so many seem to put their trust in a Russian enterprise than here in the West. Sure, western governments pry and can be intrusive. However, if people are more willing to place more trust in the likes of Russia or China, you will be in for a nasty surprise. It's all too easy, almost fashionable, to take an anti-establishment attitude when you've never known what it's like to live in truly oppressive regimes. This attitude reminds me of the typical university student who thinks communism and Marks ism are the best thing since sliced bread. Kaspersky may be absolutely fine. However, such a company being based in Russia and at the whim of a dictator would be a very potent vector of cyber attack given its vast western user base.
In the last av-comparatives real world protection test, Avast and AVG scored 100% Avira, F-Secure, Kaspersky, McAfee let one through BitDefender, Trend & Norton (*user dependent) let 2 through ESET, Panda let 3 through Microsoft defender dropped the ball on 6 (for 98.8%)
This has been going on since 2017 at least. Brian! be a good time to make a video on the good, bad protection programs ? BTW Did you see the google ads hacking MAC users story?
Don't want US customers knowing they have US malware installed. On a different note , new update from Adobe switches on by default that saving photo files to their cloud computers. No Thanks, my files stay local. MS forcing you to use on-line accounts instead of local. No way. Windows defender does a really good job.
"The last nail in the coffin for Kaspersky!" is a bit extreme. China is now the biggest economy in the world, followed by the US, India, Russia, then Japan. The size of China's middle-class greatly exceeds the entire population of the US! China is the most important market for most brands now. The US is still an important market, but a declining one. The US banning a product may have had some consequence 50 years ago - but not so much now!
This is a political decision with lots of hypotheticals and no hard evidence of wrongdoing. For EU customers, all customer data is store on Swiss servers. Although, I can see this a being a prudent measure for government/federal departments, making a case for national security, ala the Huawei decision regarding cellular communications infrastructure. That said, I do disapprove of Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
Will those who still want Kaspersky use a VPN to receive updates? I used to use Kaspersky but at £75 plus for the full suite it was too expensive. I used AVG for a couple of years but when that went to £70 plus per year I ditched that AV as well. I use the windows AV and that suites me fine. Kaspersky is banned because of the Russia/Ukraine war and the US government think that Kaspersky might be funding Russia which the US doesn't want anyone to do.
Kaspersky can now offer its VPN app for free. In the Netherlands we have Kaspersky for 3 years, 10 devices for €80 and 2 years have passed. It's scary that the government offers other software at a discount. Perhaps a former spokesperson in America who already has the right shares with insider knowledge 😉
My Kaspersky Premium is good to September 1, 2024, so what about Canada? Is McAfee as good? What about Bitdefender? I certainly don't trust Windows Defender, it's obviously a Microsoft product and it's not trustworthy either and it's not Russian as well. Are there any good British anti-virus companies available?
Ransomware generally comes via email and social engineering. It typically requires some interaction on the user's part. Infected websites (like Russian bride scams and certain porn sites) are another common source, in the form of clickbait ads. In nearly 30 years of being on the internet, I've never suffered a ransomware attack, and only had 1 piece of malware (back in my XP days) that I had to reformat and re-install the system. I'm very careful where I go, I run ad blockers, and I'm completely skeptical of every email I get. YMMV
windows defender is too weak, i found alot of trojans + virus with bitdefender, rogukiller, hitmanpro , windows defender never found that. Like 10-15+ trojans found with bitdefender
You don't need anything other than Windows Defender installed. What you need is to improve yourself, because the weakest (and most important) link in digital security was, is and will always be the user. PD: You can improve Windows Defender with DefenderUI, for example.
I agree with this other than Windows Defender. Windows Defender in every single test it has had has always scored the lowest (except the times it's an official organisation or qualified security expert doing it where obviouslyyyy Microsoft have paid them to credit WD as the best)
What we need is Microsoft to put their house in order and fix Windows, rather then all the BS they introduce these days. Then there be no need for all this AV.
Have been happy with Kaspersky but I guess it's time to change. Can we assume that uninstalling it (like any other app) is sufficient or is there more to it? Finally, these days when comments are posted saying how good Kaspersky is - how can you be certain they haven't been generated in Russia. False and AI generated communications seem abundant these days.

But this starts the slippery slope of banning everything. Pretty soon we'll all be running the US Version of Red Star OS from North Korea.
Uninstalled McAfee two years ago, and I'm NOT installing it EVER
Rason is geopolitics.
My politic is if us ban somting it is realy good at it job and I will use it.
Thanks for this Info.👍
idk if this will be banned everywhere in world, I'm not in U.S or UK I'm in Australia using Kaspersky so idk if i need to change it or not, ill have to wait and see if It gets banned everywhere such as Europe
UK will 100% follow USA
This is like politicians saying they will ban porn because they are clueless to how the internet works. China's Great firewall relies on nobody using a VPN and today many AV's also provide a VPN.
@@Britec09comply to gov to U guys don't want ban if they start talking abaut it.
Who knows? Apparently Albo didn't attend the US NATO meeting because we're not part of NATO. But then again, our Gov has also done an excellent job banning pirate bay 😂🤣. They've got no clue.
I banned Kaspersky in 2015, bought a computer that came with that virus. Did a fresh install as soon as I seen it.
Don't care. I've used Kaspersky for over 10 years.
I'm not about to join US paranoia
Much better to pay pizzo to Putin and be safe from the malware he pays the other team to concoct.
In the last av-comparatives real world protection test, Avast and AVG scored 100%
Avira, F-Secure, Kaspersky, McAfee let one through
BitDefender, Trend & Norton (*user dependent) let 2 through
ESET, Panda let 3 through
Microsoft defender dropped the ball on 6 (for 98.8%)
You do know that the BBC link you listed is for an article from 2017?
Interestingly my Glasswire showed a connection to a Microsoft Server in Russa the other day!!!
Glasswire is pretty good.
well, isn't just JUUUST great. Microsoft messing with older OS's, the gov come 'round and smacking peoples security suites with hammers...
I'm waiting on co-pilot / recall to be totally banned from Microsoft
We'll get updates in the UK and Canada, we'll wait.
This has been going on since 2017 at least. Brian! be a good time to make a video on the good, bad protection programs ? BTW Did you see the google ads hacking MAC users story?
This has been an ongoing issue with Kaspersky, but now I think others will follow and ban Kaspersky.
Don't want US customers knowing they have US malware installed. On a different note , new update from Adobe switches on by default that saving photo files to their cloud computers. No Thanks, my files stay local. MS forcing you to use on-line accounts instead of local. No way. Windows defender does a really good job.
I like Bit-defender, the updates are done through VPN..which is a extra bonus..
I have been using Windows Defender for years and have never had a problem
Other than the US, what other countries have banned it??
But Kaspersky offices are still open in the US for some reason 🤷🏻♂️
What's next Stoli Vodka
We laughed at Lavrov using his iPhone!
Windows Defender is good enough for me, I use macOS primarily anyway, I only use Windows for backing up my Android phone
Bitdefender is a strong alternative, WindowsDefender is actually not too bad, BitDefender+WindowsDefender is a pretty solid combination.
BitDefender will disable windows defender
international trade is the worst modern bane -it has caused snooping, exploitation, manipulation and toxic politics both economical or idealogically
This only refers to us people and companies in the us not worldwide but thanks all the same brother
I highly recommend Bitdefender HAS a replacement of Kaspersky. 😂
I don't use 3rd party AV. Windows Defender suits my needs. I consider all of the 3rd party AV products (McAfee, Norton, etc) a waste of money. YMMV
Windows Defender is poor with ransomware it did not stop the one i got
Ransomware generally comes via email and social engineering. It typically requires some interaction on the user's part. Infected websites (like Russian bride scams and certain porn sites) are another common source, in the form of clickbait ads.
In nearly 30 years of being on the internet, I've never suffered a ransomware attack, and only had 1 piece of malware (back in my XP days) that I had to reformat and re-install the system. I'm very careful where I go, I run ad blockers, and I'm completely skeptical of every email I get. YMMV
Windows Defender is scam - only block "hack tools" and "riskware" - no viruses indeed
windows defender is too weak, i found alot of trojans + virus with bitdefender, rogukiller, hitmanpro , windows defender never found that. Like 10-15+ trojans found with bitdefender
I use ESET, Very happy with it. I had McAfee, ESET Is far better. " It's The End Of Kaspersky As We Know It" To the tune of REM.
Thats not true at all. Relying on Windows Defender is not good idea for long term and have been tested.
@@juanfigueroa4989 Skill issue.
Windows Defender is poor with ransomware
What we need is Microsoft to put their house in order and fix Windows, rather then all the BS they introduce these days. Then there be no need for all this AV.
i will be trying to find ways to use this after the ban. VPNs will most likely work to receive updates to the app
Don’t use mcafee or Norton. Symantec about used to be good not anymore.
Luckly i live in Europe man im so glad since some of the US policies and rules are just ridiculous at this point.
I dont understand what this jeans for europe, because its banned in united states
This is all well and good but BUT what has this to do with England???
Damn it, I just paid for the next year, about $127 only a few days ago. I wish I would have known this was going to happen!
I could care less as I don't use Kaspersky. I doubt there will be refunds as the issue isn't Kaspersky's problem.
Why?!
Watch the video
I am watching the video
Have been happy with Kaspersky but I guess it's time to change. Can we assume that uninstalling it (like any other app) is sufficient or is there more to it? Finally, these days when comments are posted saying how good Kaspersky is - how can you be certain they haven't been generated in Russia. False and AI generated communications seem abundant these days.
you should say that this is only in the USA at the moment not europe
Windows Defender is good for all the home users but for profesionals is time to move for Bitdefender, Eset, Panda
