Metallica shook us because they weren't just fast and loud, they were precise. They sounded sharp, and they told interesting stories from unique perspectives. The first 4 albums are special because they were OURS. They weren't on the radio, we didn't have internet, it was word of mouth, it was organic. They were genuinely talented musicians that didn't show fear or shame, it was an amazing era.

That was just the start of their set after 10hrs of similar bands. I was exhausted at the end, barely able to stand. 15:43 Ryan said “when it’s song came out, it probably took the world by storm”
The reality is that Metallica couldn’t get any air play on the radio at this time. They were way to hard for even the hard rock stations in 1984. Their commercial success came way later. The only radio they had at the time was a handful of college stations.
It was the fans passing around their records and tapes, and showing up for the shows that kept them going.

This song goes even faster and has so much more energy in live shows! If you want the highest energy version, their live in San Diego version is off the rails. They always drop the guitars out after the solo so it's just Lars going nuts on the drums with the bassist playing the riff, all while the crowd chants "DIE" at the top of their lungs

Next was two shows back to back (the first date sold out so quickly that they added another show the next night!) also in Atlanta during the “Black album” tour. No opening act, no intermission, just three full hours of ass-kicking music! Lastly, was their more recent tour for “Hardwired to Self Destruct” in Charlotte, NC in October 2018. I have been a fan since hearing “Kill ‘‘em All” and I absolutely love this band!!! So glad you guys do too…
