Is this the first African superpower?

  • A new country is emerging in the middle of Africa that could become the first African superpower: the East African Federation, a union of seven states: Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
This superstate would be the largest country in Africa, ahead of Algeria, and the seventh largest country in the world, ahead of India but behind Australia. Its capital would be Arusha in Tanzania, and with 312 million inhabitants, the federation would be the fourth most populous country after the United States.
But it would also be a relatively poor state, with a GDP of $325 billion, making it only the fourth largest economy on the continent behind Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa, despite having by far the most inhabitants.
But there are other difficulties that stand in the way of federation. Africa is already a diverse continent, and these seven countries are no different, so it could be very difficult to unite all these different interests into a single state. On the other hand, these countries have been experiencing record economic growth for years, which begs the question

They are trying hard to make it happen. There is also a good chance Somalia or Ethiopia would join although that is still up for debate. It almost happened a few decades ago and it will probably happen again. At this moment they are trying to make the countries more economically intertwined and it has a good chance. As long as a major war doesn't strike the continent i think and hope it will happen

But a union between the Nations of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Eswatini and Lesotho could prove to be a powerful force, maybe even better than the East African union as it will have a ludicrous amount of resources and would be relatively stable.

Yes, they were a 'superpower of the known world' but what was known of their world was so truncated that calling them a super power, or any power, greatly distorts the term.
