      first off he said he would like the option for wireless controllers that way people can choose. Also modern controllers don't really have lag so I don't see why if, this had a wireless controller option that there would be any problem with lag on them.

    • @NintendoSEGAreviewer
      @NintendoSEGAreviewer Před 7 lety +44

      DantheMan The extensions aren't officially licensed by Nintendo, if I remember correctly, and you can't use Wii Remotes to make it wireless. It's a valid complaint when modern living rooms or gaming areas are very spaced out.

      Barabajagal Why should I have to buy an additional HDMi cable when Nintendo should have made a longer cable for the controller, officially license those extenders, or even make Wii Remotes compatible? I'm not asking for some fancy feature that Nintendo has to painfully work to implement.

    It's funny how people are justifying the small cord. Seriously? Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo and my New 3DS, but some of you are just too much of a fanboy thinking Nintendo can never do anything wrong. "No A.C. adaptor on the New 3DS is great because everyone already has one, and it makes for a pleasant surprise for those that don't!" " The short cord is great because it forces me off my comfy sofa and sit really close to my huge tv! " "I love how Wii U doesn't have many 3RD party games because it will make the system sell trillions!"

      A short controller cable is a perfectly valid reason to bring down a final score. What also contributed was the fact that there's no way to buy new games for the console and are locked to playing only those which have been already pre-installed.

    I think IGN missed the point of short wired controllers. Its to recreate the authentic feel of playing the NES in the 80s and 90s. We take wireless controllers for granted now but sitting close to the TV was how it was done then.

    • @ScottAndNumbers
      @ScottAndNumbers Před 7 lety

      I was actually thinking this very thing as back in the '70s and '80s, you were supposed to move the console to you. They had short controller wires and long as hell TV wires. And into the 90's and beyond, that started flipping to what we have now with consoles sitting right at the TV and controllers having either no wires or long as hell ones. But I took out my old NES controller to see and that ORIGINAL NES controller from the '80s has a wire roughly twice that length (didn't get 100% measurement as I don't have arms that long). But that is still no excuse for the "low" score.

    • @TheWolfgabe
      @TheWolfgabe Před 7 lety

      Look at the Famicom. That system had short controller cords mainly cause it was designed with Japanese living rooms in mind which as a rule are smaller than American living rooms

      Na. I prefer supporting a good idea and not having to use a laptop or pc. Plus, it gives me something to take with me on trips when I have to stay at a hotel or something. No charge needed and it isn't even heavy. Also my little nephews and nieces can play on this so they can stop asking me to play my super Nintendo. My parents can enjoy it too since the controls will be familiar to them.

    • @avid5985
      @avid5985 Před 7 lety +2

      You can still do all the same things with emulation. Emulation isn't limited to just PC It's used on a variety of machines. Such as a phone, a Wii, a Nvidia TV, tablet, etc.. the list goes on. As for controllers you can find the same nostalgia as finding the same controller you want to except it being Bluetooth meaning no cords, so your parents would still enjoy. Also, every game would be in HD if you wanted and had the right emulator and also every game is freely downloadable, and not illegally.

    "Lovingly captures the look of 90's style Icons". All the games came out in the 80's... By the way, the reason the controller cords are so short is because it's a throwback to the oldschool systems, the cords for the Atari were short for instance, and the cords for the Famicom were permanently attached (and short). The reason is because you weren't supposed to set it on your t.v., you were supposed to set it on your coffee table (which most people don't have anymore). So probably a bad idea... but definitely Old-School

    • @Harie0
      @Harie0 Před 7 lety +2

      If you didn't call them out on it I was going to. Though, in their defense, MOST of the games are from the 80's. Kirby's Dream Land was '93. Punch out is a bit grey as the version here was 1990, but the Mike Tyson version was in the 80's. And while atari's and even the Famicom's cords were short, this is not those systems. Also these developers should have learned from those systems and not to do that. It's a design flaw that we don't need.
      The only thing I'm not too keen on is how it seems that the manuals aren't loaded onto the system. You have to use a QR code to look them up.

      *Complains about having a short wire that makes you have to be close to the console. Then complains about having to go to the console (which is too damn close to him already) to save or change games*
      First complaint is a legit one that he just blew out of proportions because IGN. Second complaint is just IGN reviewers being their typical, stupid selves. Either the short controller wire makes the fact you have to hit the reset button a "not so bad" thing at worst. Or the having to hit the reset button makes the short controller cable an understandable thing. They can both be bad, but not together.

      @josetakapele Před 7 lety

      iMaldy you can say the same about HDMI capability. Sure a wireless controller would make it bit more expensive to produce but I'm sure many would prefer a wireless controller over a short-wired one. As far as a classic console, it's more or an homage to the NES days. If it played carriages and had the same controller slot, maybe but it's an inconvenience to many, specially if you have to get up to hit the reset button or sit 3 ft from the console. That issue could have been solved and make this perfect for the person seeking to play the classics again.

    "The cable's too short"
    It seems this generation has forgotten how you save progress on an original NES. Which Nintendo did it on purpose to prevent the urge of getting up from your couch. Just bend forward.
    See, a game like the Legend of Zelda, always required that you hold the SELECT button then the Power button once you've saved the progress. So even Nintendo wants to emulate that.
    Plus, another button to access the menu or save states is unfashionable for the NES controller.

    Honestly his criticisms feel more like glorified nitpicking. HDMI cables are not that expensive and people seem to forget that back in the day early game consoles were designed to sit close to you.
    Also I don't understand why people are complaining you can't add more games. This is mainly a novelty product meant for those who want a cheap affordable way to experience the NES. Also in order to actually download games that would require additional hardware and memory that would more than likely jack up the price.
    Not everyone want to go to the trouble of wrestling with ROMs and emulators and many emulators tend to be pretty terrible in terms of quality.

    The short cables and having to press the buttons on the console are things you had to deal with the actual original NES. And are in my opinion just as important of an experience with the console as the games. And that to me is a part of the experience of classic consoles.
    I remember as a kid having my NES in the middle of the floor because I wanted to be 8 feet away from the television. All you do is pray that your parents don't step on it and that your dog doesn't pull out the cord running through the room.
    Heck I still have my original NES I haven't played in a while but it's still a very important part of gaming history. So this day just needs to get over his first world problem and deal with the corded the controller.

      Doesn't address the most important questions: how well are the games emulated, and how much input lag and controller latency is added in that setup? Input lag in emulation coming on top of your TV's input lag can spell disaster for playability of demandning games. That's why original hardware+everdrive+SD CRT is the real way to go for enjoying the whole library without collecting all the expensive games. If you must use an LCD; AVS Nes+everdrive instead.

      I've read on many forums about retropie emulation adding lag. From 50ms to 200ms, which is detrimental to many games. Here's an example showing added lag on an LCD: watch?v=N6UTnFuaqxg
      Now compare that to original hardware on a standard definition CRT and the difference must be even greater.
      On the other hand, some seem to have been able to tweak it with frame delay etc., but real hardware on a CRT will always be the real deal.
