That’s a horrible moment when you want to get on and finish the new layout but other things take priority 😢 I feel your pain 😊

I love it. I thought I was the only one with 10lbs of potatoes in a 5lb sack. People don’t appreciate true genius and problem solving. 👍

I know, it takes a lot of thought and dedication.

I feel this so hard. On top of doing regular cross-country moves for my spouse's job, I find myself completely upending my workshop following the completion of nearly every major project. My wife jokes that I enjoy reorganizing the shop just as much as I enjoy building furniture. Add to that everything is always temporary due to frequent moves, I feel as though I've never fully moved into a shop ever. Thanks for documenting the experience.

The desire to play workshop Tetris is among the most powerful. Too bad you can’t ever truly win.

Or is every change a win to a greater or lesser amount.

It is an annual activity for me to arrange my shop for better workflow and function. My theory is that tools are gaseous in nature, they expand to conform and fill whatever shape container they are placed in. The only thing that really changes is the pressure on the walls. Steve

I share your perils and pain of a micro workshop. Not sure I could throw a dart at a wall in my shop and not hit a tool of some sort.

Quite a lovely collection I can assure you, I've added a new piece of kit when a job comes along that needs it / can pay for it so over the years.....👍👍

I'm in the beginning throes of redesigning my own layout. At the moment I walk in and am confronted by a big dust collector, i have to step around the cnc machine, then the mitre station sticks out so i have to squeeze past it, and so on. I'm so slow in the shop that optimising for efficiency doesn't make sense, so I'm redesigning with space, freedom of movement, and a general feeling of, "this is a nice space" instead. I hate to say it, but I describe my end state workshop to myself exactly as you were joking around! feng shui 😆

I moved into my present workshop 2 1/2 years ago and still not right. I've put most things on wheels so I can play workshop magic roundabouts easily 🤣. Day it will nearly be right 😊

Couldn't agree more about what seem like lightbulb moments on how to arrange things, then the itch to get out in the workshop and execute those brilliantly awesome changes, then not long after wondering why on earth did I flippin' do that??? At least it gives us all the excuse to change the workshop around again, and again, and again 😂

Just put everything on castors. 🤣Then you can have a set up for every type of job and just roll everything to that configuration before you start.
