This guy's personality is superb. His knowledge isn't too shabby either. SUBSCRIBED. LLong live the chain link fence!!!!
Thanks so much for this video - just the right pace and description! But most importantly for me, are the hints at the end. I was watching because I want to take my gate off and turn it around (so that it hangs from the opposite post). But that post is a single - and you described how, after a time, the gate would move the post! That's great information!
I still think I'm going to do it - the single post is already leaning the other way - but I love knowing what I'm walking into!
Thank you for doing a great job explaining and showing us at the same time
Great Tutorial! You provided efficient, no-nonsense, git-er-done instruction. I loved the additional explanations you threw in as to why something should be done a certain way. Very helpful. You've got a wonderful personality for creating and presenting videos. Thank you!
That's very encouraging to hear. Thanks!
That might have been the best instructional video I have ever seen. WOW...... Thank you for showing it in such detail.
You're very welcome!
Thank you so much. Your instructions are clear and concise. You are a good teacher!
Thank you The two videos that I saw on your channel were super helpful. Have a blessed day 🙏🙏🙏
DUDE, YOU ARE THE BEST, THESE ARE THE ONLY VIDEOS I FOUND WHERE EVERYTHING IS VERY WELL EXPLAINED, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. SHOUT OUT FROM MEXICO!
You're welcome!
I agree!
Was going to do welded wire fence, after watching your videos I will be doing chain link. Appreciate the uploads, best chain link lessons I've found on here..... thank you!
Awesome, thank you!
Excellent instruction. I've wanted to add a second gate to my fence for a while now. This video was a huge help!
Glad to hear it!
Thank you! Got what I needed right away! 👍
Keeps the honest folks out
Just like any 4' fence. 😏
Same reason we lock our house. 😅
"high-dea" of the moment, every boss in the trades should make videos like this for their employees / new hires.
Well made made video sir.
Morning great explanation about Chain Link fences,i started to work in this field(Chain Link,Knotted Netting)i want to learn about Vinil and wood fences, god bless you
Commenting from northern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦, I’m just about to embark on my first chain link fence adventure and have to say the before I watched your videos I was getting nervous but after watching then it really helped me understand the SLAYING I’m going to do on this project, Thanks for the help. 😎 and keep the awesome videos coming man.😎✊👍🏼
You got this!! 💪🏻👊🏻
Lots of good tips here, thank you. I have a double-gate like that --- so that a vehicle could drive through -- that's fairly new but when they installed it they mounted it too low and it drags against the ground. I'll raise it, don't care if the top rails exactly match or not, because I don't plan on digging out the ground alternatively.
Thank you - My Son -in Law and I just installed 500 feet of 5' chain link fence. This was the first time that either one of us had ever done that. Your video helped us so much!
Love hearing that! Thanks for letting us know! 👍🏻👍🏻
Dan, as always I don’t care what Mark says about you, you are alright in my book. Lol. Great video, per usual guys.
😁
Thank you. Your video is priceless. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you great job walking through procedures.
Glad it was helpful!
Great job
Thanks a million! You saved me a couple hundred.
Love it!
Thanks for the breakdown
You bet
I will be installing a double 4' gate today for a total of 8'. I'm new to chain link but have just done about 180' includind the 18' run with the gates. I have the added challenge of being sure my nephew's chihuaua can't get out anywhere. With luck I have the gate posts set correctly after watching your double gate video. I'm sure I got it wide enough but hope I didn't err too much on the side of caution and set it too wide. We will see here after I finish my coffee and drive the 20 miles to get 'er done. Thumbs up to all your videos!
Love it! I'm sure it's great! Thanks for sharing this. 👍🏻
thanks guy😃
No problem 👍
Hello from Montana these videos have been awesome!
Hey, thanks!
Good info for Video
Thanks!
nicely explained
Thank you 😃
Thanks thats the problem in having, gate keeps sagging so i fix it and agaim and again. So i wrmt on yoitube and everyone was talking abput using tension wire to fix a sagging gate. So i was doing that last night. But to me it seemed idk.. Like not a very effective way to keep it from sagging. If the idea of it sagging went through my mind agaim after "fixing' it. Now i know it defenetly will.. Why? Because you explained or said somethimg nobody else had said but ypu. And i watched over 20 videos yesterday and not one said yo not hang the fence off a single post because of sagging and how on the contrary you hang it to the chain link fence side then no more sagging cause the Weight of the fence is greater than that of the gate and single ro. Cause even with cement after a month it sagged.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!🙏🌜🙅👍
You bet! 👍🏻
Love it. What hardware to use for doble gates?
Do you have recommendations for dog proofing an aluminum screened patio and screen door? My patio is on the side of my home and I want to limit the pit bulls who are strong to the back and side yard with access to the patio but I don't want them to be able to escape to the front yard through my patio screens. I was thinking of hog wire screwed into the aluminum frame but not sure how to secure the screen door and be able to open from both sides.
The job I never done. Idky but I always wanted to work in the field of fencing.
Great videos! I'm a subscriber now. My son-in-law is a supervisor/Forman that did fencing in Oklahoma and is now in Florida.
Question: Can you build your own gate like you did the fencing or do the corners need to be welded or something?
You can find gate kits that let you do it without welding. We always weld ours. (czcams.com/video/iJG7QzCDYs8/video.html)
I found your videos to be excellent and concise. Can I hang a wrought iron gate on existing standard chain link terminal post, and can you provide weight limits for how much the post can support? Thanks
That's a tough question to answer without seeing it. Maybe. Depends on the integrity of the post and how you plan to hinge it.
Hello, what size gate is that? I’m looking to see if a 6in W x 5ft H is too long to use as a pathway gate.
Could I get the gate setup and mark the holes for the terminal post. Then cut the top rail at right length for the gate. dig the holes keeping the chain link tight till gate post are set. Set tension bar in and lock it to the post then cut chain link
Great video. What’s the spacing needed between the posts to fit the gate between?
It's specific to your gate and hardware. You'll want to measure your gate + your hinges + your latch. Hinges should be measured on the inside dimensions between where the posts would be (don't measure the parts that go around the posts). Fork latch should be measured from where the gate post would be to where you want the terminal post to fall in the fork. Add that all up and you have your post spacing.
It's really much simpler than I'm making it sound here. 🤣
Thanks for the video. How do I keep gate hinges from moving over time? Should I use lock washers?
If you have access to a welder you can weld them in place with a small weld, or you can use a self-tapping screw to hold them in place.
How do u fix a gate sagging at latch side
Are there disadvantages to having the male hinges on the gate side?
Just got a new 5x6 gate. Latch side is higher than hinge side.
I was gone when guy installed and can't call him back. I know I can fix it but not sure how. Can you advise please? Thank you.
I love how he always points to the next video… assuming that anyone is watching from an actual computer 😂
How much between post should i allow for 2 6foot swing gates by 4feet tall?
Get your gates & your hardware together and measure gates + hinges + latch. There's no way around the measuring. Don't measure the entirety of the hardware, but the distance between post to frame. For the latch, factor in where you want the gate to be in the fork.
How can I remove old hinges from the gate?
Hey man, I just recently purchased my first home and the fence around my back yard is 15’ short of my property line all the way around. I Checked for easements and all that and none exist. I was going to push it all back to the line and was curious. I have a 4”x24” auger I used for a different project. Do you think if I hit 2 holes right next to each other and dug any extra dirt out that it would be enough to hold a 5’ tall metal post? I really don’t want to hand dig all these holes lol.
Er... maybe? 😁
This is going to depend greatly on where you are in the country. You want enough space between the corners of the post and the edge of the hole--so don't skimp on hole width. And you're definitely going to want to get deep enough--make sure you're getting below frost line. Can you rent a bigger auger? I'm with you--I wouldn't want to hand dig those either!
czcams.com/video/vjEuv5afE4w/video.html
Lol thanks for the vid, I might as well rent one. Can’t be to expensive. I’m in Central FL so no frost and my soil is somewhere in the “sandy-dirt” range depending on where you dig. I’ll see if I can find a 6” or 8”. Thanks for the help
What is the post pounding apparatus called, and where can I buy one?
A RediDriver. There's a few options: bit.ly/redidriverpounders
Call the shop if you've got questions and we can talk you through it. 👍🏻 307-578-8040
how far apart should the posts be for a 4 foot wide gate?
Width of gate + width needed for hinge + width needed for latch = distance posts should be from each other.
My gate is 57 in 4 ft high how far apart should be the post from one post to another
It's going to specific to what hardware you're using. Gate measurement + the amount of space the hardware takes up. Just like in this video (this example is a double-swing gate, but the concept is the same): czcams.com/video/-TTnA-l_GIM/video.html
I have a problem with my U-latch swiveling on the post if I push or pull on my gate. It appears to be tightened down as far as possible. Any ideas on how to fix that?
Shim underneath the where the clamp tightens on the post then retighten your bolt
By the way, Wyoming is my favorite state in the nation!
You should have explained the needed width of the gate to the width of the space for the gate. Also, keeping the gate off the ground for many a do-it-yourselfer requires that they suspend the gate up with one or more pieces of wood (etc...) since they cannot hold the gate at a given height while tightening the bolts. Let me provide an example: i was asked to re-hang (readjust) a gate that wasn't closing correctly. The gat was 32 inches wide and the space for it was 32 inches wide. The hinges and locking mechanisms being used were so large they had to be contorted to have any semblance of a working gate, but the owner of the property thought they. were needed because they represented extra security. With only a 1-inch gap on each side of the gate, there was no way to use the attached parts requiring at least four inches altogether. Those viewing your video may not choose the correct hardware because of whatever insecurity they may be fostering for safety requirements. And though I corrected the situation, the owner still insisted on putting massive locks along with a massive chain on both sides!
Thanks for this add-in! I’m a single mom and I need to put a gate on my new driveway but I have no dollars and a bunch of Home Depot gift cards. And so far I’ve been able to figure out all my home repairs via cool dudes on CZcams and the additional cool dudes popping into the comments.
I bet I would have gotten the wrong sized gate for my gap. 😂😂 thanks for mentioning!!
Your are welcome. If you were nearby I would help you without charge. I am presently in the Arizona City area but will be leaving for the Tucson area later this morning. In any event, good luck on your project. @@warriormama613
Shut up or make a video with step by step instructions.
@@DavidWilliams-vc2ms Thank you for such a mature response that was obviously uttered by a professional? Your comment reminds me of those I encountered while working with behavioral disordered kids I used to deal with while working at a Jr. High school...
@@warriormama613as a general rule add 2” on each side of the actual gate measurement. Most 48” gates are 441/2- 45”
What's the opening demention
Gate + hinges + latch. Don't measure the entirety of the hardware, but the distance between post to frame. For the latch, factor in where you want the gate to be in the fork.
Could just grab a wrench and take the bolts of to get in 🤣😆
If you have a 4' fence you're not using for security anyway. If you have a taller fence it's standard practice to make sure all your bolts are on the secure side of the fence.
Ez pz!
Lol if you have to watch this video to figure out how to hang a gate you shouldn't own tools as far as the bolts use longer carriage bolts thread them tight then BEND THE THREADS OVER SOMEWHAT SO YOU CAN'T UNDO THE NUTS WITH A WRENCH AND/OR SOCKET ITS GRINDER TIME now how to figure out to keep the criminals from cutting the wire mesh
Why’d you watch this video then Buck?
Someone will hear and see the criminal cut the wires for its a longer method. Compared to just picking up and in 5 seconds you in. If a criminal wants to get in he gonna get in no natter what. He gave us a good advice. Its what's important.
How do you put the Post in ? This sucks and it’s incomplete
Your cheerful feedback has been noted. 🙄😋
This video is about hanging, not setting. There are plenty of other videos on the channel that talk about setting posts. If you look around a sec you might find one. Like this one: czcams.com/video/M-fVT-tfjWI/video.html or this one: czcams.com/video/STRqduxsokA/video.html
