    What a great review Mark☺️After having a go with the RX3 for a few weeks in Wex I finally brought it for £637 in grade 9+ condition in a sale, well worth hanging on👏🏻
    I needed something light but giving me options when we travel in the camper, the SLR setup was terrible as it took up so much room in the van.
    Now it’s the Sony and Canon 5D m3 with the nifty fifty for low light and that’s me done👍🏻
    Your videos using the Sony RX has been so helpful too.
    I love your channel, and although it must take up so much of your time it’s really appreciated.
    Kind regards
    Jase

      Thanks very much Jase. By RX3, I'm guesing you mean the rx10 Mk3?
      That's a great price! I love my RX and still use it all the time in 2022!! In the last two on location shoots, I pretty much got my favourite images with it!! I just hope they make a Mk5 version of it. 🤞
      Thanks for watching. 😁👍

      @@mikesphotography thanks for your reply Mark, yes it’s the RX10 M3. Time to look at your videos on how to make sense of Sony’s menu system🤨😂
      All the best

    Solid review well presented! Shame more people have not seen this video! Yes for me battery is the biggest issue. Ive been saying for years. They should use the Sony Xperia phone batteries in these cameras save the planet and also increase the battery by 10000000%

    Hopefully getting mine soon was looking as newer version but as I know nothing about photography I want to use play memories for apps which apparently isn't in mk4 :(

    2022 and we still don't have the M5,,, hehe. I have the M4 and thinking about upgrade to an full frame but I think I'm gonna keep the m4 as a second camera because I don't think I'm ready to give up of the 600mm zoom :D

    Less than £800 used now. 1" sensor is an utter misnomer - Sony calls it type 1 which somehow got converted to 1". it's 0.62458" roughly, nowhere near 1". Nevertheless, it's really the only camera you need unless you have highly specialised requirements. eg Astrophotography, rugged conditions. Four times the area of an SX70 and a mighty Zeiss lens, Sony electronics and quality - what's not to like/love? And you CAN do back button focus too, though I've not yet decided whether its better on the AEL button or the Focus lock - the AEL is a bit flush but perhaps a blob of hot glue could fix that.

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  Před 4 lety

      Well, I've learned something today...it is amazing how many people think it is a 1" sensor...I definitely won't make that mistake in the future thanks to your info. 👍
      How do you set up backbutton focussing on it? I've found in trying to set it up, that I can only get a work around instead of a true back button focussing system...unless they've upgraded the firmware recently.
      Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

    • @simmo303
      @simmo303 Před 4 lety +1

      @@mikesphotography You're welcome. It happens on others too eg Lumix FZ series. Set Focus Mode Dial to M, Menu --> * Custom Settings --> p5 -->Custom Key(Shoot)-->P2-->AEL Button AF/MF Control Hold. Same for Focus Hold Button. Both can be set like that so you can use either. You get AF-S, not continuous.

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  Před 4 lety

      That's fantastic...the way I had it setup was a work around but this is pretty much a true backbutton focusing setup. Thanks a lot for that!
      Do you mind if I do a quick video on it? Or do you have one already!?
      Thabks so much for that info!!

      @@mikesphotography Sure, no problem - I've not done one, the camera came on Saturday. It's covered in buttons that you can set for a variety of actions. I have C1 as focus area, C2 as drive mode, C3 as metering mode, left button as quality, control wheel for ISO. So much easier than D750 and four lenses. Mostly RAW with PhotoLab 3 as converter.

    The sound of the zoom operating registers in videos in my camera, I can also feel the extension/retraction movement this typical? Bought used under a return deal, should I send it back? tia.

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  Před 4 lety

      They all do this. I tend not to zoom when filming, I just change the framing of the shot and then record. If you do zoom during filming and want to use the onboard audio, this is probably not the camera for you.
      Thanks for watching. 👍

      @@mikesphotography Thank you. Interesting. The onboard mic did not but the external did with the level set at 12 in the camera. I don't recall my FZ2500 doing that - can't check as I posted it yesterday. When you have time please see www.flickr.com/photos/vetteran/49874413271/in/datetaken/ is that typical? Unfortunately there's no local shop open where I might find another to compare.

    If I set the aperture to F4, what MODE do I take photos in? I want to shoot P mode.
    If I shoot in P mode it will adjust shutter speed and aperture, right?
    Can I manually turn the aperture ring when I am in the MF mode?
    Also I saw a video where the Aperture ring said F6 for example but on the screen on top on the camera it said something like F3. Why is that?
    I want the shutter speed to be set at 1000. I keep reading about ISO but I understand that is about making the photo lighter or darker, the same as Exposure Compensation. I am probably wrong.
    If ISO is shutter speed, where in the Menu can I adjust the shutter speed to 1000?

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  Před 3 lety

      Ok, so you need to take it step by step. You're asking so many different questions about many different settings.
      P mode will change both your aperture and shutterspeed when you turn one of your dials. It's not a great learning tool and can be really confusing when you first start out.
      In manual mode, you have control over all of your settings so it is a slow process to get your settings where you want to be, but it is a great way to learn about how these settings interact with eachother. It's best to go to a quiet location where you can set your camera up and take time to go through the settings and take a few different photos. Then you can set your aperture, your shutter speed and your iso...then change them around and see how the settings affect your photo.
      If you just want to control aperture, go in to aperture priority, which is either A or Av, depending on your brand. Then the camera will adjust shutter speed automatically.
      If you just want to control shutter speed go into S or Tv again depending on what brand you have. THen the camera will adjust the aperutre automatically.
      In both aperture and shutter priority, if the photo is too dark or light, then you can use your exposure compensation to correct this.
      ISO is basically the sensitivity of the sensor, so if your photo is too dark, you can increase your ISO to brighten up the shot.

    Do we have firmware update for this?

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  Před 2 lety

      I just checked and it doesn't look like it.
      Normally any firmware updates will be on the Sony product page, for the RX10iii there doesn't seem to be any. www.sony.com/electronics/support/compact-cameras-dsc-rx-series/dsc-rx10m3/downloads
