BP x Sometimes people have bad days and fall, unfortunately Alicia had a bad day during team finals. That doesn't mean she isn't a good gymnast. Even the best gymnasts fall and make mistakes sometimes.
@@focusx77 I was gonna say that was well. Probably the only high profile gymnast I have ever seen who doesn't straddle or cowboy it. To me, when you don't cowboy it it makes it look like a more unique skill, rather than just a reverse double tucked back. When you do the double Arabian properly, it's stunning and unique.
This is probably thee best Floor of Asac's career. Her executions are absolutely perfect, she sticks all her landings, her tucks are tight and the difficulty is off the charts...not to mention 5 passes. Truly one of the best power gymnasts in the history of the sport. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏆
Tiana Joiner they werent required to. In fact they were pretty encouraged to lunge back. Look at any of the routines. Even Shawn and nastia....so she nailed this routine. Sticks were still for men then on FX. It should have stayed that way. Way too many injuries happening now. Just look at 17 worlds
Difficulty off the charts? Not a single pass higher than E, and a pretty average D score for the time. She's clean and tumbles well, but difficulty wasn't her thing.
Alicia has the cleanest double Arabian in the game!!! nobody did it like her. not only did she has wonderful position but she got major height every time.
The 2008 gymnast were absolutely incredible. They had their mistakes during the 2008 team final, but I believe that the natural talent on the 2008 team was actually greater than that on the 2012. Not taking anything from the fierce five - that gold metal says they are pretty awesome too! But that's my observation. *Also... I am guessing the difficulty code of points changed significantly? It seems extremely difficult to get in the 15's on floor lately.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but in 2008, 10 elements were counted instead of the current 8 - which would account for the current scores being lower than they were during that time. And while I agree that the 2008 girls were amazing, I don't think the natural talent from the girls in 2008 is higher than the girls in 2012. Giving just a few examples: 1) Maroney's vault is the best in the world. Also each of the girls on the 2012 team could technically compete an Amanar (granted - Kyla struggled with it and doesn't compete it often, but a) she was a first year senior during these games and b) she gets all her points from bars and beam), where as I think in 2008 only Johnson could compete it. Also in 2008 Alicia was USA's vault girl, and both of Maroney's vaults were more difficult and more consistent (despite the fact that the ONE competition she messes up the second vault happened to be the Olympic games) 2) Aly's floor score is the highest fx score in the history of women's gymnastics at the Olympics (and I say this knowing that Sandra Izbasa did score higher when she won in 2008 - but if you adjust her score to the 2012 code, it wouldn't be as high as Aly's). If you took Izbasa's score, adjusted it to the 2012 code, and ranked it with the other medalists from the 2012 games, she would have only won the bronze medal. 3) Also Aly, Gabby, and Shawn's beam d-score (adjusted 2012 code) are the same, even though Aly doesn't do a full twisting back tuck. Jordan's was actually .2 higher.
They did change it from 10 to 8 skills being counted...however, Sacramone was a killer on VT BB and FX, Johnson was a killer on VT BB and FX, Liukin was a killer on UB BB and FX and Memmel was a killer on UB BB and FX. Pezsek and Sloan were just kinda fillers.
@@extra_ice_girl Not really. Peszek had the 2nd beam and floor (after Shawn) and the 3rd vault. Sloan yes, kindof a filler except fir bars (poor form, but bigger D score than Shawn)
she is beyond being my favorite gymnast. i just think she is so amazing. you hear people calling her all these names because of the olympics..they blame the loss on her, i dont hear anyone giving her credit for getting u.s the world title..
She surely has the best form on nearly all skills. The thighs were glued when she did that Arabian tuck somersault, no crossed legs on that 2.5 twist (also she can do a perfect triple twist with her legs keeping straight), and that 1½ leap was just fantastic!
Gymnast fans especially Americans should not put all the blames on Sacromone for losing team's gold in Beijing. She was actually the alternate for Memmel for floor and beam. But since Memmel was in injury during podium training, Sacromone had to replace her and get to mentally prepared in a very limited short time. She was heavily under pressured because USA was waiting for that team's GOLD. Till now people still blame her for her mistakes but for me, she is still one of the talented, consistent, persistent and skilful gymnast in USA
@MisanthropistPro if you notice it's usually the more muscular compact gymnasts who don't cross their feet when twisting (Mattie Larson is an exception to this body type since she doesn't cross her feet either) and usually the longer, leaner gymnasts like Nastia always cross their feet.
2008 was a Renaissance in floor ex music. The canned patriotic boogie woogie remixes of the 1990s were long gone and the arrival of the kidz bop meets a cheap remix at the club had yet to start. From a musical perspective, I miss 08.
USA FOR THE OLYMPIC WIN!! we have nastia liukin on all 4 events, mckayla maroney on vault, nastia liukin is the best at uneven bars, alicia sacramone on floor, and last, but not least, shawn johnson on balance beam!! WE R ALL SET!!! :)
@KVHolland3 Actually she had a torn labrum and serious knee issues while competing. It was so bad during the olympic trials (or nationals, I forget) that she got an MRI. She was extremely beat up after the Olympics, since her legs never got a break. Remember, she had shoulder surgery after the Olympics. That makes 3 American girls who were injured in Beijing- aka half the team.
Yes. That's why she's a world champion and silver medallist on floor. Not to mention numerous world cup medals. Oh, and a finalist on balance beam. It had nothing to do with her weight, she had injuries leading up to Beijing and while in Beijing that required surgery in her legs and shoulders. Mihai is a great coach, and he's proved that with 2 very international successful gymnasts who are multiple world champions.
Look at her hands in the backhandspring, they were way to wide so she did not get any push off for the double pike back. She basically did it from a stand still. AMAZING!
+shwaung you're right her hands are too wide on the backhandspring. wow I totally missed that on first watch thru. Still, the height she gets from a standstill with no spring is remarkable.
+shwaung you're right her hands are wide. Didn't catch that on first watch. Still impressive from basically a standstill with little to no push off. 👏🏻
@LilMissGymnast1995 yeah she's retiring after the 2012 olympics mainly because she'll be 24 which is like really old for elite gymnasts, they normally retire when they're 20:)!
@GinaHolmgren We don't know anything about Nastia's abilities, since we haven't seen her compete since 2009. Unfortunately Alicia injured her achilles and has just returned to training. Shawn is still dealing with her knee and we don't know if she'll do well enough to get one of four spots(Jordyn already has hers sewn up). Let's wait and see how things pan out at Visas and Trials.
@GYMNAST1567 Actually she has amazing worldclass handsprings that send her into the stratosphere. By spreading her hands wider she is able to get closer to the ground, which gives her more height. Watch her handsprings on beam. Totally controlled. She's a pro.
@TheSilver19991 You do fall sometimes, but good coaches can break everything down into small steps to let you advance within your skill level. Plus, it's all done on mats/a tramp/a sprung floor which helps.
@shannonigan9 usually the reason why they don't have their legs together is because if they fall and jam their knees into their face they are screwed. But I totally agree it looks much better.
i remember watching this on tv and not giving a damn about it as i usually do since im a dude and this isnt my thing but DAMN!!!!! She definitely got my attention, and the fact that shes so good at what she does actually made me appreciate the sport a lot more than i did before. Amazing what a beautiful girl and talent can attract....
Guys, Alicia Sacramone does a double arabian. Some of you may be talking about an arabian double front, and in a double front, most gymnast's legs' are apart, or cowboyed as some say. Double arabian's are different than an arabian double front(if you would like to see an arabian double front look at Aliya Mustafina's floor, Carly Patterson's floor, or Alexandra Raisman, although more gymnasts do arabian double fronts.).
i love it when gymnasts smile when they stick their landings! it shows that they are proud and happy!
I cry tears of joy every time I think of the 2008 olympic team. The BEST ever. Alicia is such a performer.
Gary J Shaw She fell twice.

I agree. even though they got the silver their gymnastics was beautiful and iconic. I could watch 2008 team and all around competitions over and over!
Did not realize how clean her double arabian was... How could I have ever missed that?
Pedro Hierro Martín so what she had a bad day. All gymnasts do. Why point out Beijing when clearly she's talking about this meet...
@@pedroh8915 1) beiging... Like the colour lol 2)Even with her fall her technique was still one of the best. Not a single cowboy-d leg in sight.

aidan karnal yes, she looks so relived to have that pass down, seems like it was always a bit cautious for her

every event’s scores are now lowered by 5 tenths. (0.500) so if a score was 15.600 in 2008 it would be considered a 15.100 today.
