I use to drive tour buses up in Alaska and Yukon back in the 1980s and 90s and twice had a plane land on the highway infront of my coach. First time was west of Tok Juction on the Akaska highway. They use to park their plane infront of the house they lived in. The second time was somewhere near Glenalan. It gave my passengers a real thrill and a taste of life in Alaska.
I have a buddy who, after he retired from the Air Force, did a stint as a bush pilot in Northern Canada. They would occasionally drop low on the few roads (all gravel) and logging trails to practice for emergency situations and to know where safe points were in their route in case something went wrong. Having a nice flat spot to land doesn't always happen in an emergency and one time he had to "land" on a hillside of a meadow. It looks beautiful during nice weather, but these guys earn their money.
brings back fond memories of back packing in the brooks range mountains, flew from Anchorage to Fairbanks, then to Arctic Village and then the last 3 hour flight into the range in the same type of plain. Pilot super cool and landed on tiny bank by the river.
Awesome mix of crazy and beautiful. Whoever decided the music for this bit deserves an award as well. I could loop this vid as a whole for a relaxation piece. Well done!
Those big ol' squshy balloon tires!! At first I'm like, "WTF is wrong with those wheels/tires?" Then I saw the "air strips" you operate on. Kind of like WWI. :-) Fun video!
Really good clip. And yes it does give a great vision of Alaska, plainly in summer. As an enthusiast for aviation clips, I really enjoy the flexibility of the STOL planes with the chunky tyres and super-short taxi & take-off runs. The final approach to Talkeetna Village Strip as seen from the wingtip camera is scary as it would seem you are among the treetops. Great filming, well done Guys. Niall O'Neill
Josh Ausman Lol, I'm a pilot but my career is aircraft structures maintenance/modification in the lower 48. I notice there's always lots of maintenance jobs in Alaska & one ad I saw for an Alaska GA maintenance job years ago said "Duct tape, bailing wire, and bubblegum must be included in your tool box. No FAR manuals allowed."
I thought so too when i read the title. This type of flying is unnecessarily reckless in my opinion. It just takes one unseen powerline or some crazy dickhead driving 200mph in his car so why do it?
I dont see the point of this either. Creates a hazard to road traffic. I understand simulating a failed engine approach to a forced landing on a road, but getting that close is reckless especially at a nose high attitude where you cant see incoming traffic. Seems like pushing the limit for the sake of being cool rather than safe training. But besides FAA regulations, its a violation of US law § 91.13 Careless or reckless operation. (a) Aircraft operations for the purpose of air navigation. No person may operate an aircraft in a careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another. (b) Aircraft operations other than for the purpose of air navigation. No person may operate an aircraft, other than for the purpose of air navigation, on any part of the surface of an airport used by aircraft for air commerce (including areas used by those aircraft for receiving or discharging persons or cargo), in a careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another.
Really, really very nice! I almost felt (only almost) to be sitting in the cockpit… Every aspect of your video is to breath deeply: the landscape, the plane and your flight. Thanks!
Wish we could do this in the lower 48? I fly IFR and sometimes it would be more convenient to land on a road than find an airport to water the plants and get on my way.
I'm interested in, why you doesn't land on the asphalt landing place in the end of the video? Or it isn't good to land on asphalt with a bush plane? I'm not a pilot yet. But I'm very interested in light and ultra light aviation)
If it were a bigger plane, say the plane that was crash-landed into the Hudson, It would have to be closer to the middle, I'd guess. But this plane looks like it would be best to land closer to shore. I'm not a pilot nor have I ever been in an airplane sadly, but just what I imagine the protocol would be, other than obviously "Well shit guys, here we go."
Was the road landing on the Parks highway outside of Denali? I know this was filmed in April but I was driving on North on the Parks near Denali in mid/late August and a red plane looking just like yours did a touch-n-go in front of us, wouldn't be surprised if it was you. Cool video.
Hey, I am from germany and I am flying gliders right now. I would like to become a bush pilot later too as I think its very experiencing and a very exciting job for a pilot. If I would do my PPL-A license in germany, could I go to Alaska with it? I am not sure because of the visa and so on and I dont know if there are jobs often. Would be nice if you could answer, Finn
Hi Finn, honestly not sure if the license would transfer over, but I'm sure with your hours of experience as long as you passed your FAA written exam and a checkride you could get the same license here. For jobs you would need a commercial license though, not just a PPL. One good thing about Alaska though is that the whole state is mostly traveled by air, not too many roads connecting areas, so I'm sure there is always an opportunity to make a living there flying
I learned in AK and my instructor made us do a road landing before he'd let you go solo. When I show people in NJ the pics they always freak out but really its perfectly safe in most cases because you can usually see the traffic or lack of it for miles before you land.
Right... Just I'm from Europe, France exactly and you will lose you license for definite doing this kind of stuff. In France it is the law to stay 500ft above the ground for security
This is beautiful! I love bush pilots... there is so much freedom.

This is great. I think I just added Talkeetna Village Strip to my bucket list.

this is exactly the kind of flying I want to do.
sigh...

amazing scenery and nice plane to fly for amateurs and even pros wanting to have fun. I hope i could do this one day.
Thanks for sharing
Awesome mix of crazy and beautiful. Whoever decided the music for this bit deserves an award as well. I could loop this vid as a whole for a relaxation piece. Well done!
check out the xx....great band....crystallized is good and islands too
You guys are so lucky. Enjoy every moment of it. Alaska is truly amazing. I am dreaming in buying a piper
beautiful
Great video. Absolutely love this type of flying, and particularly doing it in Alaska! Great job!
I need to fucking move and get my pilots license!!!
Love it! Love AK!!! Love Bush flying!!
Fantastic, really great. And the music was superb! Thanks for posting this video.
great video, I just flew with Don Lee in this same Pacer a few weeks ago! It was one of the most fun experiences I've had at the controls/
Man that looks like so much fun!
Quality footage and beautiful scenery. Well done.
Those big ol' squshy balloon tires!! At first I'm like, "WTF is wrong with those wheels/tires?" Then I saw the "air strips" you operate on. Kind of like WWI. :-)
Fun video!
Love the plane, love the flying, love the xx- intro.
this is just amazing.. great choice of music too!
Thanks
project T ;)
Was that low pass on the road legal???? I'm guessing laws are a little different in Alaska.
jwhite4440@gmail.comll
so cool thanks for sharing! Great music 👍
Beautiful State. I noticed the bear too! Looks like you're having great fun. Great vid with good backing tune.
You never totally touched the road. Stayed really close. That was cool though.
The bush land in Alaska looks absolutely amazing
I like the STOL flying. And Alaska - wonderful place to do it (y)
I love Talkeetna! We drive down there almost every year.
I thought Scotland was pretty but this is amazing. Thnaks for the upload :)

it's really great, really beautiful, thank for the video
Touch and goes. Alaska is really beautiful, in the Summer.
I doubt he ever touched down on the road. The wheels were never spinning in the clip as he pulled away.
If you listen the instructor (that's what I'm guessing as he's calling the shots) tells his student "don't land, just a low approach."
Skraith I had the volume down. It's a bait title then with "crazy landing on road"
Captndarty Yeah I was kinda irked by that but the beauty of bush flying made up for it.
Captndarty i
He was not aloud to land due to aviation law, but because bush pilots have so much freedom, he was aloud to make a low approach
Thanks....that wasvalot of fun....
So, does the FAA just treat Alaska bush flying like it's just not within their control?
Until there is an incident, basically!
Josh Ausman

yeah it doesnt matter there haha that was sweet flying
Most of Alaska is not controlled airspace.
ProChoiceJesus it’s ok to land on roads in Alaska
What you called the Horse Strip I know as the Herc Strip.
God's beautiful creation truly is spectacular.
You mean the plane, right?
haha that too ;)
great video, great instructor.. very enjoyable
Great video! Thanks.
Very nice. Thank you for sharing.
Nice, you have made me another holiday-wish. :)
Pacers make great bush planes!!!
Oh yeahh
Amazing !! Very impressive !! 👌👌👌👌
one of my favorite airplanes.
Thanks for Fun flying!🤓 Liked 'landing on' road...🤫
Awesome !! Greetings from Poland :)
Nice And Beautiful WOW!!!
what operational need did you feel you had to land on a road where cars can come at you in either direction ??
I thought maybe it was a forced landing, but nope..
I thought so too when i read the title. This type of flying is unnecessarily reckless in my opinion. It just takes one unseen powerline or some crazy dickhead driving 200mph in his car so why do it?

100% agree!
Yes, indeed the whole flight seems to be reckless (altitude). No need to risk yourself, the student, the airplane and everyone on that road.
Amazing video!!
Oil pressure fluctuating precautionary landing… LOL
Excellent performance!
very very cool thank you :)
Really, really very nice! I almost felt (only almost) to be sitting in the cockpit… Every aspect of your video is to breath deeply: the landscape, the plane and your flight. Thanks!
excelente video y muy buena musica
Großartiges Video mit tollen Bildern. Da bekommt man Lust aufs Nachmachen...

Pay Way it's up to individual states to determine if it's legal.
So beautiful...
Awesome!
the wheels dont spin when they land on the road?
Love seeing the shadow of the plane on the ground as it's coming in for landing.
I Love This Tail Draggers.
Wouldn't exactly call that a landing, but it was still cool.
What type of plane is this
Fantastic!!!!
What was the altitude of Your plane, when you were flying close over the river at 9:05
that is a really cool old plane.
I really did enjoy the video
what is the name of this plane?
nice video and crazy music. what's the name of the song towards the end of the video before landing.
442 dislikes?
He did land on the rd.
Great video

awesome.
What would you do if you had an engine failure at: 9:18?
Ditch the plane in the river? If yes, in the middle of near the margin?
Then land carefully as you can in the water to avoid crashing so hard.
Cristiano Mazzotti An aircraft and probably my life as well that's is a price i'd pay to have such a rush of adrenaline . That 's call feeling alive 😉
I'd attempt a barrel roll.
"We're gonna be in the Hudson."

excelente video!!! ... y la gente pregunta por que nos gusta volar...
if my life ever depends on a pilot in a small plane, i hope it is one of those Alaskan bush pilots!
Sweet little plane!!
Anybody know the name of this theme song playing in the background music
music?
MATIN GARRIX project T?
Kinda like we did back in the Nam - right Bill, Jim & Jeff?
Cool music
I love this type of flying, and I've done it myself. but the pilot in me keeps asking, "where you gonna go if the engine quits"?
Awesome Video, Love it! what plane is that, a Pacer?
Show de bola.
u can land on roads in Montana as well
Good video and greetings from germany :-)
What music is this ? and great flying btw.

Awesome
With this low-level stunt flying over the river and trees, I'm just wondering what you would do in case of engine failure.

Take a look at alaskafloats.com

I heard somewhere that routine road landing on certain remote roads is perfectly fine
Your not really allowed to do this. Remember, fun is outlawed.

would love to do that before i croke,,,, been a pilot for 30 years
You guys are awesome! great fun to watch in midwinter here in the UK!
Does anyone know what is the name of the song?
