Several videos with the same issue and most if not "ALL" should be removed from CZcams.....your video is spot on - Thanks!!!
Thanks soo much, really appreciate the comment !!!! I do my best, and glad you are happy :) Thanks again :)
Agreed!
Great video. 100% what’s going on with my Honda. Thankyou
Glad to help and if you need to put a starter in, there is a video on how to do that :) Thanks for the comment, I do appreciate it :)
How did you fixed your car? I wasn't sure of a starter and the other top part he last showed.
Thanks! Very helpful
Glad the video was helpful, and thank you for the comment brother!!!!! Its what keeps me going :) Happy Holidays to you :)
Wow awesome I'm here to stay ....I love cars so I have to know this.....
I do appreciate it, thank you :)
I know where to come to for car repairs!!!! New friend here!
Thanks soo much!!!! I do appreciate it :)
Thanks or sharing the video..start up issues better I know this👍
You bet !!! and Thanks for the comment !!
6am eastern. This was very helpful. I’ll have the fuel pump checked. Everything else is good, starter, battery and alternator. Also I had all connections/leads replaced. Should I check anything else?
Hey There, I know this may sound very basic, but also make sure your battery terminals are tight and clean.
Great. Made sense.
Thanks brother !!
It could be a bad ground. If the starter is going bad you can tap it with a metal bar which will usually make it work.
Yup you bet, thats a great mechanics trick. Thanks for the comment :)
Nice
Thank you my friend!!!!
i had the same thing in my honda. I found it was enough to hold the keys all the way down and after a while the engine would start.
That's great if it starts, but it may not keep doing that. Fingers crossed for you :) Happy weekend to you :)
Well explained man. Good stuff!
Literally the same thing happening with my car as well.
Where's the video on how to change it btw?
Hey buddy, sorry for late reply, here is the vid: czcams.com/video/XWP-oxh9du0/video.html also if you go on my channel main page there is a section for Japanese vehicles, American, German etc. if you need, Thanks!!!
Also wanted to thank you for the comment as I thought the link was in the video, it's updated now. Thanks!!!
@@GarageKing awesome thank you keep it Rollin!
@@GarageKing i haxe a question my 2007 honda pilot is getting plenty of gas but wont start. My huaband by mistake put water instead of gas in the tank. Since then hes emptied the tank wipe it out put more gas in it. I got gas coming from the line under the hood but my truck is hesitant to start
Please help
@@keyonnaplain4581 Yikes water in the gas is never good. Since your husband has already emptied the tank what you could consider doing is disconnecting the fuel line near the engine, turn the key (don't start the engine) and catch the fuel in a jar. Then put the jar on a table and check to see if the water separates out from the fuel. You may still have some water in your system that is causing the hesitation. PLEASE DO THIS ON A COLD ENGINE YOU DON"E WANT A FIRE.
I changed the starter and the battery. It was working great but now it won't turn on immediately. I have to wait for a few seconds till I see the fuel gauge working and then I can start. Should I be concerned about it?
That is not normal, I think you should check your batter connections to make sure they are secure. Also check your starter connections. I know its not easy......... The other thing you can do is monitor to see what happens, but with the new battery and starter it should go right away. There is the possibility that you got a defective battery, but that's pretty rare.
@@GarageKing yeah I can only replicate it every once in a while. In case it's a bad key, I'm starting my process of elimination from that. It's starting up with no issues all day today with a spare key.
Good call on the key, you know I never thought about that !!! I guess just keep using the spare for a few days and then go back to the original for a day or two and see if the problem comes back. Then you know it’s the key for sure :)
My pilot doesnt like to be jump started when I have a dead battery, I almost have to charge the battery for 10+ min to be able to jump started, what should I look for? The battery is a year old agm and the starter works fine when the battery is charged.
I have had to connect my battery charger set to Jumpstart 50a and my noco gb30 jumper pack together on my pilot for it to even try to turn over.
To me it sounds like you might have a bad battery, I have seen them fail right after purchase so it might have a bad cell. I would say take the battery out, and take it to get checked. A shop probably would not charge you much to check it, if you brought it in.
I couldn't hear the fuel pump on my vehicle so I found out my battery was dead even though I tried to charge it. Anyway changed out the battery and it's working just fine.
Awesome you got it all done, and trust me its a lot easier to change the battery than the starter LOL :) Thanks for the comment and glad you are back on the road :)
Ok installed a new non reman starter but still won’t start. Fuel pump engages, battery is strong, I can hear the relay click but nothing from the starter itself. Both connections on the starter are secured. Could it be an ignition switch problem?
It might be, what you have to do is get a test light and put it on the small terminal of the starter (the one that gets power from the relay) Then get someone to try to start the vehicle and when they turn the ignition switch the test light should light. When you test. The big terminal should have power all the time. ground the test light on the neg of the battery. Its tight in there but you should be able to get in there with a test light. I'm leary about the ignition switch as the fuel pump is triggered and you can here the relay click so the switch it probably ok, but you never know if the START portion of the contacts in the switch are gone. It could also be the neutral safety switch, this is the thing that prevents the starter from engaging if you put it in "D" and try to start it. The switch will still work to engage the relay and lights, but the START position is disabled. I think 1st thing is to check with a test light at the starter to see if that starter is getting 12V when you go to START, when you go to ON there should be no voltage there, only on START. So you need two people to do the test.
@@GarageKing ok I’ll try that
@@Celexanomnom Sounds good, diagnosing is the hard part as you have to really maneuver things around and do the tests, plus most of the time you need a helper as you can't be inside turning the key and underneath the hood at the same time.
@@GarageKing ok so I got it started, tested everything, checked fuses etc etc etc all good still no start. Then I decided to put it in neutral and push it forward a foot, started right up after that. Turned it off, started up again. So I guess the gears weren’t lined up properly for the starter to engage?
@@Celexanomnom I have had that happen a few times and most of the times its caused by a failing neutral safety switch. The flywheel and starter gear are not positional, so it really does not matter where they are, as the stater gear pushes out and engages the flywheel teeth. You have an interesting problem. It might never do it again, or might start doing it on a regular basis. Next time, don't push the vehicle, just turn the ignition on and move the gear selector from P to D a few times and then try to start it in Neutral.
Please what can make my Honda Accord 1999 model not start once, i have to start it 3 to 4 time before it respond, i have change the complete injector, fuel pump, fuel filter and and also new battery, but the same problem still occur, i need your help on how to solve the problem some time i have to start it from engine starter before it works
Hi There and thanks for the comment. If each time you turn the key the engine turns over then you know the starter is fine. Every time you turn the key do you hear the fuel pump? If you don't then check the "fuel pump relay" I think it is under the hood near the battery. Also if you have a spark tester you can test for spark. If you are not getting spark then it could be a sensor that triggers spark like the crankshaft position sensor. Lastly, if you have a scanner, scan it for codes to see if there is any computer codes in there. If its a sensor there will probably be codes in the system.
@@GarageKing i have check the spark it fine, i even change the fuel pump and fuel filter still the same. i even turn on the engine little and loose the fuel filter at the engine side to verify if the fuel is supplying and it supply fine.
but my major concern is, if parked over night and i start in the early morning it start once but when drove for hours and the engine is hurt it will take 5 time to start or i would have to start it from the engine starter.
If it does not start when hot it could be a sensor or could even be starter. You have to check the engine computer for trouble codes to see if anything is stored
@@ifeoluwaomidiranganiyu5552 I also forgot to mention that sometimes starters can go bad when they are hot, but work fine when they are cold.
@@GarageKing thanks so much on the previous infor, i sincerely appreciate, just want to notify you that i installed a new starter today but still doing the same thing.
I just changed my starter last week 2007 Honda Pilot and now it’s doing the same thing again. No starter. Fuel engages but nothing after that. After I changed it, it’s been working fine up till now. Any ideas?
Hey there, I hate to say it but I wonder if you got a bad starter. Normally on these Honda's its the starter as the ignition switch is rare to fail. Sometimes the starter relay goes but not often. If you are hearing the fuel pump, the rest of the system is probably ok. You can't buy a new starter anymore (I don't think Honda sells them anymore) so what you bought was a rebuilt starter. Probably from a parts store. They take old starters apart, sand blast them, and put them back together with new internals. BUT before exchanging the starter I would put a volt meter on the battery and get someone to try to start it and look at the voltage drop. Also make sure all the connections are tight. You would be surprised how many vehicle I see that don't start and its just a loose connection.
@@GarageKing after I changed it, it started right up. Changed it last Saturday. Volts are at 14.1
@@GarageKing my code reader only picks up bank 1 below eff.
@@Celexanomnom Not sure what you mean by bank 1? Normally when you refer to bank 1 you are referring to oxygen sensors. The truck should start without them (it would run like crap) but O2 sensor would have nothing to do with starting. I read your other comment. is it 14.1V when the key is turned and HELD to crank?
@@Celexanomnom When you are HOLDING the key at start the voltage should be less than 14.1V as the starter should be drawing current. If when you turn key to START AND HOLD, you need to get someone to look at the volt meter on the battery. the Key can't just be on the ON position, it has to be held to the START position. The voltage should be less than 14.1V. If its 14.1V when this happens then the starter is not engaging. Could either be ignition switch, relay, neutral safety switch, or starter, most likely its a bad starter.
Hello I’ve changed my battery, starter, and alternator and it’s not turning on after the first attempt. For example I would have to turn my car on 2-3times and it will turn on. I got everything tested and they say my parts are working well. I have a Honda civic 2012
I wonder if its your ignition switch or neutral safety switch(automatic trans) or clutch switch (manual trans) You can test the ignition switch quite easily with a test light on the starter.
@@GarageKing could it be the fuses as well and i have the spare key not the original
@@elegantmikayla Hey There, I don't think the spare key would have anything to do with it as long as the spare key is turning. It could be a fuse, but if its a fuse you need to investigate what caused the short, or excessive current draw and popped the fuse.
What does the fuel pump have to do with the starter??????
Hey brother, thanks for the comment!! This video was about checking for everything if your car won't start. So this video is not about just the starter, its about the whole system of starting components involved. By listening for the fuel pump, when you hear it, you know the ignition switch is working in the ON position, and you also know that your fuel pump relay, and fuel pump are working. To answer your question the fuel pump itself has nothing to do with the starter, but is necessary for the vehicle to start. I appreciate you comment and let me know if you need anything else!! Thanks brother :)
I have same problem .Did you found issue?
I have a 2003 Honda Pilot and I just tried to start it up I can hear the starter clicking and when I try to start it, all the gauges on the dash start freaking out like crazy… do you know what could be wrong?!
Hey There, I think it could be a low battery. Sometimes when you have a low battery crazy gauges can result when you are trying to start the vehicle. Hook up another vehicle with jumper cables. Let you vehicle sit for about 5min to take a charge, and then try starting again. Leave the other vehicle running so it charges your vehicle.
My 2008 honda pilot doesnt start.i have a code p0108 for map sensor..i replaced and still dont start.the engine spin.also.new battery and nothing works.
Hey There, diagnosing a no start can be difficult. At least your engine spins over. I was taught in mechanic school to always check for fuel and spark first. I would check for spark. Make sure the coils are getting power, then check fuel pressure. If you can hear the pump run like in the video that's good. You can still check the pressure but you need a fuel pressure tester.
Where is the starter relay?? 🤷🏻♂️ Iv got the same problem. Put a new battery and a new starter. Cant find the starter relay in either of the 4 fuse boxes... This is an old video but Please help if you can
Hey there, sorry I can't help you as I don't have the vehicle anymore. For mine it was just the starter.
Dam car just did this my battery works fine headlights dash lights, when I crank the keys I can hear the clicking sounds trying to turn on but nothing after that
Most likely the started then. Here is the starter replacement czcams.com/video/XWP-oxh9du0/video.html
IM STUMPED. 2014 honda pilot randomly died. I went to get it tested, EVERYTHING Passed. And 30 days ago I had the terminals fixed and tighten, a battery replacement, & oil change. A jump box will start it immediately. But it keeps dieing. What is going on.
Wonder if your alternator is charging properly? If it dies right away something has to be wrong with the battery or alternator. If you have a good battery most vehicles will still run with a bad alternator after a boost until the battery can't support the electronics. So if its dying really fast your battery is not holding a charge.
I replaced my battery starter and fuel pump in my 2011 Honda Pilot it still won't start when it did start the guy had to spray with starter fluid and a lot of white smoke came out the tail pipe
Hey there, do you hear the pump run when you turn the key to the ON position? see 1:13min mark in the vid, can you hear that
I just watched the video I will go ut and listen for it
@@donnettewhite6230 If you hear the fuel pump that means the fuel pump relay is working, and that means your ignition switch is working properly in the ON position
Hello! I have a 2008 honda pilot and I'm been experiencing no startup issues. I have power and I've gotten my battery tested and it's in good shape. When I turned the key I heard the fuel pump is you showed in the video. But for some reason sometimes it takes me multiple tries before the car starts. Sometimes I have to hold it between 5-10 seconds before it cranks and start. I've changed my starter and still experiencing it. I'm being told it could be my starter relay but the problem is no one knows where it's located. Most of the forums I've read said it's located on the driver side under-dash fuse box, I've checked multiple times and saw nothing. I've called different honda dealerships and service centers and they told me it's located in the main fuse box under the hood but they don't know exactly which one is the starter relay. Please if you can respond to my comment to let me know where it's located I will really appreciate it. THANK YOU!
Hey Brother, there is a starter cut relay (but it doesn't fail often) It is located inside the vehicle on the drivers side, right above the hood release. You will see a fuse panel there. On the rear it should be marked R1, that is the Starter cut relay.
@@GarageKing thank you so much. Could it just be that I got a bad rebuilt starter? Also sometimes when I turn the key to start there's this loud sound then silent with no crank, that same loud sound happens sometimes when I'm turning off the car. Do you have any thoughts on that? Thank you!
@@TheSexyboywolf Its possible you could have a bad starter. You can take it to a place that rebuilds starters and have them bench test it. I have seen some starters that are bad rebuilds. I'm not sure about the sound, the first sound sounds like it could be the starter solenoid engaging, but the starter does not turn. When you turn it off I'm not too sure. Many Hondas V6 (what you have) make this weird noise when you turn the motor off sometimes. You can really hear it with the hood open, it almost sounds like a gasp of air. I have an MDX and it does it all the time, the Pilot did it as well. So I think that sound is normal.
@@GarageKing thank you so much for your help and time. I wish you nothing but success in anything that you do.
@@TheSexyboywolf Thanks Peter !!!!! Appreciate your good will :)
How do you replace a starter
Hey there and thanks for the comment, here is the video for the starter :) czcams.com/video/XWP-oxh9du0/video.html
HELLO! I have a 2005 Honda pilot that cranks but won’t start, Ive had the cam shaft and crankshaft position seansors changed but that’s abt it
If you have a scanner you should scan for codes, it may pick something up, or point you in the right direction. If its cranking over you could check for coil voltage, and then fuel pressure. I'll bet one of them is not working.
@@GarageKing the scanners read absolutely nothing! I’ve had the battery changed and pcm and key reprogrammed but no scanner can read any codes
@@ryqnn if you have a good scanner you can go into live data and check the crankshaft sensor by cranking the engine and reading the RPM on the scanner. when you turn the key do you hear the fuel pump running? If not you have to look their first. Then next check for coil voltage.
@@GarageKing I’ve had it checked and supposedly everything is good but I can’t get my car to start
@@GarageKing was told that it is an electrical issue maybe a broken wire
But the starter was working? Why does it need a new one
No the starter was not working, in the video you can see I tried to start the vehicle but it would not start. I showed how to check the other things that were working, but the starter was not. Here is the video on how to replace the starter if you need to czcams.com/video/XWP-oxh9du0/video.html
I replace starter, relay, fuse. Still just 1 single loud click. Any ideas?
Make sure your engine can turn over. Either put a big socket on the front crankshaft bolt. Just turn it an inch to make sure the engine turns. If you can’t do that if you have an AMP clamp for a digital meter get someone to watch and when you turn the key to click keep holding the key and get the reading. If it’s very low the starter is not engaging properly. If it’s a high load, like over 55-200 amps then something is holding the starter.
@@GarageKing do the car meed to be in neutral
No, leave the car in park. The engine should still spin. It’s going to take a little bit of effort due to the compression, but remember you don’t have to turn it much. Just a bit to make sure it’s free
This is the proublem
Yup, in this case it turned out to be the starter.
Bad starter easy
Yup it was the starter, and here is the vid if you wish to see it czcams.com/video/XWP-oxh9du0/video.html
