The transition was a bit rocky. Probably need more time at skillshare....
superj1e2z6 Sigh...
yes, it's the same guy just a different channel
I wrote a similar comment thinking I was clever, scrolled down and saw yours and deleted mine lol
You could just have just said Hollywood jobs need SKILLS which you can get at SKILLshare lmao
damn lmaoo
TMZ = Thirty mile zone (head explodes)
thisguywhocamps1 not everybody lives in or cares about the US too much dawg
CheesecakeLasagna maybe not. But they don't comment the same thing on every post like you're doing.
I live in LA and I didn't know that
🤯
Ryan Fitzgerald but do you tho
Woah, so that's what TMZ is named after?
ikr?!
OH MY GOD IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW
Yep.
That tidbit was one of the best parts of the video.
The one at Korea is called DMZ De Militarized zone
Let me guess, it's either Squarespace, Skillshare, Brilliant or occasionally, Hover.
It was skillshare ;)
Chow Tom and what better way to make more educated guesses than using Skillshare.
Soon these companies are gonna stop and he will have to make some up.
You forgot Dashlane
@@silverdragon3711 and Audible
Just as interesting
Even tho it's half the length
Hashida Tackey i
So 4x as interesting as advertised?
The segue into the ad wasn't.
oledakaajel Thats why its half the length.
Half as Interesting could the TMZ explain why some productions film in Georgia or Canada The Walking Dead, Madea films, a few series have been filmed there.
Not gonna lie, I sometimes find myself more excited by this "side project" than your main content.
His main content is just one topic repeated over and over. This is at least somewhat interesting.
Sebastian Elytron *half as interesting
This is the side project?
Yowch
@@sebastianelytron8450wait what’s his main content
As someone who works in production in Hollywood on the sets you mentioned and in two of the unions you referenced, the last thing you need to work in this business is more education.
It seems the "virtual sets" used in Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian (but pioneered in I believe Jon Favreau's Lion King) will mean more demand for people with 3D computer graphics artistry skills. Though as with most creative paths I'm sure ambitious people looking to the break into the industry will have a whole portfolio of work they've done at school and in their own time.
The intersection in the video is not in Downtown LA, it's West Hollywood / Beverly Hills. DTLA is 10+ miles away.
That's my only gripe with this. The Beverly Center is very much in the Beverly Grove area, DTLA it is not.
Phaladone Right!! i just made a comment about that too lol
He actually corrected this error in his latest video
Why do you think they call it the Beverly Center when it's not even in Beverly Hills?
Nealikus because it's in Beverly grove hence the name Beverly center
And if it weren't for Thomas Edison's incessant patent trolling, it would probably be a 30-mile radius of Columbus Circle in New York City.
I already have the best skill of all: knowing the exact moment to click away from a hai vid to avoid hearing an ad
Ah yes, you've learned it all. Teach me your ways, master.
I'm increasingly fascinated by how much info you impart in so little time. And on such a diversity of topics. Well done.
Other unions: How do we stop layoffs?
Movie unions: We must fly first class!!!!
To be fair they are being laid off as well. The industry is moving to Texas and Florida.
The intersection of Beverly Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard is nowhere near Downtown LA
"Tom Scott made a video on this. You're copying him"
You know what? I have a video of my dog on my channel. Does that mean I'm copying every big youtuber?
Yes. The topic is the same. But HAI did it in a different format with a different set of facts than Tom Scott.
(And spoiler alert- you can like more than one content creator. I'm enjoy both)
THANKYOU.gif
[ KevIsDoingSomething ] don’t forget the fact they have different audiences
it spoiled it for me, lol
yes. what about something original? Content thief!
I watch these videos for the information and the smooth transition to the sponsors.
Oooh... airplanes
I don't know why I read that as the stupid zone
LeLouch? Is that you?
To be fair, it IS kind of the stupid zone. Or at least the Creep Zone.
I read the same
My stepdad works in the studios and we live within the zone, I had no idea this existed and thought it was extremely fascinating. Great video
Say what you will about TMZ, but they've been consistently providing some of the best investigative journalism out of any news outfit, tabloid or not.
No they haven't, most of it is blatant clickbait..
is this a joke??
Great work and I really enjoy your informative videos. Keep it up 👏🏼
I can literally see my house in the thumbnail of this video. That was half as interesting.
Same
Now Atlanta began to be the next LA. With the favorable tax break, the city is more attractive for filmmakers to shoot movies over there than LA now (Hell, some movies were doubling LA with Atlanta). Ditto Toronto for NYC, and Vancouver for Seattle/NYC.
Because global warming comin, sayin ohai, an butnin down LA bit by bit every years.
Thank you for taking your time and finding all of this stuff to tell me. THank you!
You are THE master of transitions to ads
great vid, looking forward for the next one
The intersection is at W Beverly Blvd and N La Cienega Blvd but it is not located in Downtown LA. Fun fact as well, I went to film school in Azusa. We were bound by the TMZ with our student productions. We were 3 blocks away from having to pay SAG actors mileage to come out to our ho-dunk university 30 miles outside of LA. Those $15 that would have been required for each actor would have broke us heavily.
Damn that smooth transition to skill share was lit
This is something I actually have always wondered about, Thank You
You mentioned the union rules, but not the reason they exist. The reason they exist is bc the studios were highly abusive employers from the very beginning. The working conditions were awful, and the pay was peanuts (if it arrived at all). Movie crew workers had to fight to change that, and occasionally, still do.
If you want to know what Hollywood is like without controls and rules ask Harvey Weinstein. Every union regulation is there for a reason and agreed to by producers. Stop sounding like a MBA vulture capitalist.
ikmarchini He is *not* complaining, just explaining why they exist, which is pretty normal indeed with abusive Studio producers.
If they don’t like it they can find another job
Literally nobody is asking why they exist. We know why they exist. It's the same reason every union exists. People want better working conditions.
@@ikmarchini ?????
Yet another thing I didn't know I wanted to know coming from Half as Interesting. What a great 5m.
The ad transition was so smooth I had to go back and watch that part again.
I hadn't had a nosebleed in too long, but the complexity of the rules about the TMZ got it done in no time. Thanks!
Your transition to your sponsors is so smooth lmao
I read Hollywood and felt sexually assaulted
Since i got your attention, i just made a video about a canceled Captain America cartoon from the 90s, so if that sounds interesting to you i invite you to check it out in my channel
Santi Barrios kid *BADUM TISS*
Santi Barrios sue! Sue their asses off!
Me too
Apatheism The amount of indirect to Kevin Spacey in that comment 😂😂
Thursday is not complete without a Half as Interesting video
I don't understand why you aren't verified on this channel yet, this is twice as interesting.
@3:50 The center of the TMZ (Beverly & La Cienega) isn't in DTLA. It's in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of Los Angeles adjacent to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
One late note/nitpick, the graphic of the studio zone should have been a radius that extended into the ocean. Around 2:40 you got it right, the rest of the time the graphic hugged the coast. See the California Film Commission website for a few different representations of the studio zone: film.ca.gov/locations/studio-zones/.
I have never heard of this zone before!!! Cool video.
the segues just keep getting better and better
Georgia and Louisiana are starting to be favorable places for production companies to film.
Awesome video! Keep up the good work! :)
I love when you upload
Thank you. This was very interesting. I love to research and find out stuff like like.
The intersection in question is Beverly Blvd and La Cieñega Blvd is in the City of West Hollywood. Download Los Angeles where City Hall is located at 200 ,N. Spring St. That is 11.6 miles from Downtown Los Angeles.
Such smooth ad transitions
Oh, I'm early
Edit: How can a 60 mile trip take 6 hours?
Huge traffic jams.
Traffic in greater LA can be a beast unto itself. And areas like Thousand Oaks are actually traffic light in comparison to other areas within Greater LA.
Wombat you don’t know what los angeles is capable of.
america
thank god Australian traffic is better
Glad to see another creator who appreciates Tom Scott like I do!
That last Skillshare mention was anything but smooth lol
Four years ago, I spent a couple days around LA. I truly wished I got to stay longer and also see more. Also, great video
Always love the smooth changes into skillshare
AND THIS UHAL. Okay I’m loving this channel already.
And I just discovered it today.
Funny thing in this video is that photo at 3:35 is showing the cameras of Tamvisio which was TV channel in Finland in 1957-1964 :)
2:10: When this video first came out, this scene was just a random piece of highway. Now it's part of my actual commute (in the non-COVID times).
The intersection of La Cienega and Beverly is definitely not Downtown LA. ;) Good in-depth explanation though it'd have been nice if you explained some of the reasons for the super-specific rules, like meal rules (for example, those super specific rules grant the entertainment industry an exemption to the 5hr meal rule in CA state law).
This reminds me of one of those ant death spirals. All the ants walking in circles until they grow weary and die, never realizing they could just go somewhere else to do ant stuff.
I litterally ran home to watch this
I just listened to it driving
*did you wear seatbelt*
You mentioned Thousand Oaks! I grew up there 😁😁
But what if they wanted to film within 30 miles of that intersection while in the ocean?
Or if they also wanted to live within 30 miles radius while in the ocean *cough* Spongebob *cough*
The Studio Zone was never a perfect 30 mile radius and it doesn't extend over water as the video's outline clearly shows. It also changes a bit every few years with specific areas added or removed.
What the hell? That was me in the Uhaul at La Cienega and Beverly Blvd headed up to Beverly Hills to pick up some lumber
Very interesting. I had no idea about this or where TMZ came from. :)
Aww, the TMZ barely reaches point mugu, which is right outside my city and has some nice areas outside Camarillo and Oxnard
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that desert location mention at the end is just outside Moab UT, not in CA.
That ad-spot though...smoooooth
That transition was a bit of a stretch. Keep up the great work! love your videos.
That intersection is in West Hollywood, not downtown LA. Great video!
Being in the middle of the City of Los Angeles is not the same as being in Downtown Los Angeles. Downtown Los Angeles is 75 blocks east of the intersection in Beverly Grove that you were referring to, which is Beverly Blvd and La Cienega Blvd. To get to Downtown following Beverly Blvd from Beverly Grove, you'd pass through Fairfax, Hancock Park, Larchmont/Windsor Square, Westlake, and a little bit of Echo Park before arriving in Downtown.
I read it as the stupid zone...well close enough I guess
Now it's cheaper also to film in Atlanta, Vancouver, and Toronto; the Doubling Cities Trio. Especially when filming in NYC is hideously expensive.
You said the intersection is downtown, it is not, that intersection is in west hollywood, actually pretty far from downtown
matthew clark It’s not really in West Hollywood, per the LA Times it’s in the Beverly Grove neighborhood within the City of Los Angeles, which borders the cities of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. But either way, it isn’t remotely close to Downtown LA.
Tyler Taylor ok, it’s in LA then. It’s not anywhere near downtown though
I love learning about things I didn't even know I wanted to learn about
That intersection, La Cienega and Beverly, is not in "Downtown" LA.
Does the TMZ include a portion of the Pacific Ocean or is it solely land area?
Hey Wendover
That segue was something else.
That intersection of Beverly and Fairfax Ave is Miracle Mile, I'd say, not Downtown Los Angeles that is by car at least 30 mins away.
For a moment, I thought it said "the stupid zone", which is an even more accurate description of what goes on in Hollywood.
Hollywood is filming in other locations more and more; if PA would make their Film tax credit program unlimited, many film productions said they would come to PA to film, many actors love the quiet and laid back feel of Western PA and how polite, nice, and authentic the people in the area is, it is refreshing from the LA people.
That U-Haul is so half-interesting.
It's so weird hearing Supper referred to as Dinner.
I thought it was titled the "Stupid Zone"
Yeah. Same
35 year in the TMZ..... No more. I Escaped!!
You never fail to surprise 👊🏽
Really good video!
Tom Scott made a video about this exact thing a while ago.
the great thing about youtube is they can do what they want and they also have different audiences.
This video is better than Tom's video.
Wow, what?? How come?!?! Everybody knows that CZcams can't have two videos about the same subject! How dare he??
Huh, that's why I was wondering if that was an older video when I saw the title. I had seen Tom's video on the past.
It wasn't an attack on HAI guy, I was just noting that there is a Tom Scott video about the topic.
home of this U-Haul :D I laughed it way more than I should :D
I haven't seen Segways this smooth since Jackask.
Lmao the Thousand Oaks shoutout, represent.
bruh, the fastest way to get to T.O from Westminster is by the 405, and if there's a fire by the Getty, then the PCH is a wonderful drive, but I'm not so sure about trying to enter the 101 from downtown.
I have been to that intersection dozens of times and never knew crazy
The interesting thing is a lot more shows and movies are filming Georgia. Like Guardians off the Galaxy 2, stranger things.
cents are now in front of the money and 53.5 for miles and 33.2 for kilometers 3:03
HAHAHAHA the transition to the ad
SAG-AFTRA has modifications to this "rule" to help mostly background/day player(?). So it's dependent oh where the production office of the shoot is located. Deadwood for example had it's production office on set so people expecting "mileage" for driving all the way out to Santa Clarita were often bummed they weren't entitled to mileage. Don't know how other unions handle mileage compensation but then, like the Director's Guild their primary focus is to keep their members working, hence they usually come to terms faster than SAG-AFTRA, or are less likely to go on strike like the Writer's Guild. Just my observation (P.S. I also have posted dog videos so won't cast the first stone bitching about originality)
This video was very interesting!
i read the thumbnail as "the stupid zone" first and it fit just as well
lol that segemnt to add...just cant get any smoother :D
I get tired of watching a video like this for it just to be a ad for skillshare
as someone who lives here, that intersection is in West Hollywood, not Downtown
Great segue to the sponsor.
That transition to the sponsor was a smooth as chunky peanut butter
