Welcome to another Episode of Ross Reviews AU on this weeks Video we take out this Premcar FGX XR8 Holy Grail! All the Options Where Ticked "Full Package" Installed and this car is massively improved in not only pure Supercharged V8 Performance but in its Handling as well! It really is amazing how this 1800kg 4 door family sedan can move the way it does at speed in the corners!
Using the Miami as a starting point the Premcar team turned everything up to 11. There’s a huge array of upgrades that take the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 from 351kW and 570Nm to an awesome 483kW of power and 753Nm of torque. That’s more power than the HSV GTS-R W1, which makes the Holy Grail the most powerful Aussie muscle car ever made.
To achieve that Premcar added a new cast aluminium intake manifold, triple pass intercooler, isolated air-to-water heat exchanger and recalibrated the ECU to raise the rev limit to 7000rpm. There’s also a new exhaust upgrade, a 3.0-inch stainless steel bi-modal system that allows the engine to breathe more freely and sound suitably loud and aggressive.
The result of these changes is the best engine I’ve ever experienced in a Falcon. The power and torque are so linear across the rev range so it never feels lumpy or stressed, it simply builds speed at an alarming rate. Squeezing the throttle even halfway unleashes so much grunt it feels as quick as any FPV, and if you bury your right foot the speed continues to build and keeps building until you run out of road. The Holy Grail has so much power it feels like it will run on forever if you let it - it’s a fantastic engine that lives up the GT-HO legend.
And the noise! The new exhaust sounds so great when you unleash that performance, there’s a beautiful V8 growl coupled with the whine of the supercharger under the bonnet.

Both Ford and Holden reached the pinnacle with their final models...and then they were gone. One of the saddest moments in Aussie history. I know why...but seeing how amazing this car is it's still very painful to swallow.

@@rc70ys Let me correct myself. The VF I would consider the last decent Commodore. Yes the ZB was Opel rubbish...so bad that I didn't even rate it as a Commodore when it appeared. That's where I went off track hah!
But what do I know? I'm a Ford man through and through anyway.
One of my mates was a development tester for Ford, at the period when this car was made. We had a prototype to test and put kilometers on - he'd share the car with us and we'd all have a drive. One interesting thing to note - the engineers apparently tweaked the supercharger by removing some rubber seal which gave more whine. The production cars with the Miami engine were quieter.
I remember my first time driving the Miami. It was a revelation compared to the old 5.4 and felt like an utter rocketship.
I agree with it not being whiney enough. Love the sound of a supercharger.

A great review of a special car... However an extra $45000 for a kit on a car was a big ask when the base car was just an XR8, as opposed to a production HSV... Ford and Holden both went out with a bang!

It’s sad ford never made it a real car 💀 45k is huge but I have to say it’s hard to get better than this on a good B road.. the sheer grip let me do stupid speeds around corners I was not expecting

Great review of the XR8 Holy Grail. I didn’t know they only sold 47 of the 100 kits but it doesn’t surprise me. With the costs of the kit and some people wanting to keep their XR8 stock even if they could have afforded it. The kit sure transforms the car, power and handling wise. It’s a great looking and sounding car. Thanks for the review.

Thats an insane car can't imagine going full pelt with a car like that. But at least it will stop proper with proper suspension, rear trailing arm upgrade, stiffer chassis. The stock one definitely wouldn't be safe with such a big power and torque hike. Only saw this in Motor Magazine. Ford should have gone out this way!

When I first read about the Holy Grail and the fact it was only limited to 100 units, I honestly thought that some people are going to miss out. No way did I think only 47 would ever be made.

$$$$ and is just a kit at the end of the day. potential buyers probably didn't see the kitted cars holding value in the same way as something that rolled out of the factory as a limited edition would have, and that's half the appeal to those buying them I think. That said, the fact there is only 47 now probably will help their future value I guess

The first time i saw that Premcar was maling these, I thought it was a travesty that Ford didnt go with this. But i wasn't suprised. The FGX didnt even get a marketing campaign.
the official line was that the GT-F was meant to be the pinnacle, there was never supposed to be a XR6 Turbo /8 Sprint, it was a last minute decision.
Now the fourth Aussie 🇦🇺 vehicle tested to make the 4-5 sec club 😎🤟(out of 13 other vehicles in the 4-5 sec range - and the ~90 vehicles Ross has tested)

@@RossReviewsau just like you said ford should have made this I was little disappointed in the last gt falcon made a gtho version in the FG series custom interior build number through out when you turn on the car the ford digital display on the ICC FG gtho build number whatever gtho scuff plates gtho embroidered on the seats suede leather Alcantara steering wheel sports modes you can change yourself that's what ford should have done so sad it didn't go that way full bodykit custom wheels too big brakes but ford is finished I wish they did it 😢
Man these Falcons sounds correct. I spent some coins trying to make my LSA sound decent. The M156 MB though is perfect from factory.

The quietness of this car (Falcon/Fusion) is one of the things I like. But that's my wimpy American version. There isn't much to hear with a 4 or 6 cylinder, IMO. 🙂 With this model, ya gotta be able to hear the engine and exhaust! They should have removed a little sound insulation. I WANT ONE!!

_❤ GREAT REVIEW ROSS 👏🏽…I’m an old Ford fan from way back, probably like a few of you here, that said you’ll know that Ford (Corporate) after the mid 70’s never had the same long term commitment to promote/build their performance product like GM. Yes, Ford did a great job on the budget they had, no argument, but just like this awesome PREMCAR XR8 they never followed through when there was an opportunity to upstage Holden_ … _you can’t take away from GM the way they supported the performance arm of Holden, IMO_
It’s sad ford “Fpv” always felt just that little bit behind HSV even though they had so much to offer

great vid mate,was really impressed with the build and 45 isnt alot really when you start addin everything up from the brakes to the box n diff not including suspension n engine .that seems like a fair price but ford did drop the ball on the v8 version in comparison to hsv this would hav shon for sure

I've owned both Holden and Ford, but the interior on this beast just isn't as *premium* as the the HSV-GTSR, still looks like they're stuck in the early 2000's

Never knew about this kit, such a shame only 47 were ever fitted with the kit. There have always been rumors about the final GT being made including a few concept art pieces but never happened. I wonder if this kit might have been the what the final GT falcon would have been

A larger mistake would be to walk away from the v8 market in 1983.

Its still running stock supercharger pulley which is abour 10PSI as to why you can't hear the supercharger😜‼️

The thing is....ford sels >1.5mil vehicles in US per year. Doing a kit to sell maybe a few thousand falcons wasn't a blip on the radar. lol
We all need to bother premcar enough so they'll start making spare parts for these (i wil buy all the parts and build one myself)

It’s an amazing machine
Holy Grail is very cool, and while its able to rev to 7K its an over priced upgrade essentially. Herrods did (in 2016) and could probably still do an upgrade package that makes comparable power and more torque than a W557, suspension upgrades, trans tuning for about 10K less than the base Holy Grail upgrade of $24K, so about $14K and was still on 98 and no exhaust work. Necessary wheels and rubber are extra. Appreciate the engineering and compliance work but premcar is a company trying to make money filling a niche.

Great review, at $45K it was a hard sell, so not surprised only half sold, also other than the wheels it looks like a normal XR8 or GT.
Also, it wasn't exclusive to the FGX model, any Miami powered Falcon could get the kit, ie, FG GT, GS, GTP etc.
Right up there with not making an FG X Falcon XR8 Ute because it would have looked awesome!
For 45k is a bit too much, for that money is could build an xr8 over 1000hp. There are places doing 1000hp kits for 25k and you will still have enough money left over.
For 600hp plus people are only paying 10k to 17k. Depends where you go.
I remember herrod did a package for 1000hp for 25k
If you do handling upgrade, 3k to 4k on suspension and 3k to 4k on Better brakes.
25k+14k= 39K, still much cheaper.
You could do your self.. I will say tho this package works very well.. it’s not “over powered” for its handling.. you can throw this thing at full speed into corners and it just grips
@@RossReviewsau if your cashed up and cant be bothered going from shop to shop, this one stop shop package is ideal for the right person who like it done in one hit at only one place. Good package just pricey.

When the XA GT-HO p4 was canned they had heaps of left over parts that I've heard found their way into normal GT's & Fairlane's etc.

they were made to order so if they stopped at 47 then that's it, remember these Premcar kits are not "official" Ford backed and Premcar waited until the 3 year warranty has ended for all FG and FG-X before they even announced that the "Holy grail" kits could be installed as Ford Australia probably told them that owners would loose warranty if they did mods to the vehicles.
It's the same thing that happened to Peter Brock "HDT" when GMH told them no to the VL Commodore getting IRS for the Director and other Commodores that HDTwanted to do, the difference here is that Premcar waited Peter did not and thus would of voided warranty of those cars he did mod (some 14 that converted).

Had a friend who predicted the end of ford and holden back in the 90s. We mocked him a lot. In fact, we mocked him for so many things that ended up coming true. It was fun and easy being in a team where any uncomfortable thoughts were dismissed as 'conspiracy theories', and I find thinking exhausting anyway. We never apologized to him, and probably never will.

Cause the xr8 is known for over 400kw at the wheels with just a tune and some injectors.
I’m pretty sure that is to the wheels.. as there is a dyno sheet in the engine bay..

So thats 480 flywheel KW❓️My manual Sprint makes almost 450RWKW with injectors & a tune on PCMTEC. Way too overpriced for 40K & I didn't even pay close to 1% of that value for my tune🤷🏼♂️⁉️

I’m sure this is to the wheels.. it has the dyno graph in the engine bay.. also just injectors fuel pump and a tune will get you about 600whp in a Miami

Nice car and kit. But for that money a HSV GTSR W1 was bettter because it was all OEM.
Also the LS9 the one that comes in the W1 that is a bone stock out of the factory crate engine LS9. No mods have been done to it.
So imagine company like premcar took the W1 and did the same work that premcar did imagine how much power that LS9 would make?
In the states we have LS9 with just a pulley and intake and header and exhaust and tune with is just bolt ons making over 1000 rwhp

Nice Gen 1 Coyote / Miami. Went from 335KW to 480KW. Thought ZF 6 automatic from factory can only handle 420-430 Kilowatts max. Any-who love the Grunt and wine of 5.0 Super-charge coyote.
I would rather a HSV then spending 45k on that..The seats are trash looking.
The ford doesnt even have a body kit.
W1 was nearly double the price remember and less hp (does look much better tho)

Got a 2016 Chrysler 300 SRT 6.4L with a Procharger D-1X on it, pushing 878whp along with hellcat lifters, stage 2 cam MDS delete and rods using the 8 speed gearbox.
Beaten
M5 Competition (Stock) destroyed it
C63 S (Stage 1 kit) he got eaten alive
335i N54 Single turbo with 650hp, he got beaten
subi wrx sti 2016 (stock) eaten easily obviously.
M2 S55 engine stage 3 built (Close at first then I pulled quickly)
Holden W1 GTS-R (love these) but he got pretty much destroyed lol

This is not wanky at all.. it’s over run.. natural sound of a hard working V8.. something like the C63S can sound artificial that’s one don’t like but I would argue this engine sounds amazing for a modern V8

Until you drive it, you would never know that it is worth every cent.
When you can throw this car into turn 1 at Eastern Creek at 205kmh, then you know where your money has gone.

With my microphone set up you will hear nothing but my voice… I layer in the exhaust at a reasonable sound level to make the video more accurate
