I like the double meaning of “I hope you’re happy” Either:
1) I’m miserable and anxious and depressed so I hope at least you’re experiencing joy from this performance
Or
2) I hope you’re happy that your desire to see me perform has caused a breakdown

We think we know you - Probably one of the ones that speaks out to me the most.
I feel like not enough people appreciate the spot on Kanye embodiment, especially at the end. It always blows my mind. The ‘I hope you’re happy’ is either lovely and optimistic or accusatory and heartbreaking.
Listened to an interview about this line. He literally meant both: hoping they enjoyed themselves, but also sarcastically hoping they were happy with the state he was left in from performing live and having real anxiety over doing so.
This whole song just gives me goosebumps many times through it because of the actual song itself .. it's so well done.
It's kind of a shame so many people are being introduced to these individually, as a whole the special "make happy" this appeared on was brilliantly done. It was crafted to prepare the audience for this song, he wanted everyone to know exactly why he was leaving. He added are you happy as a bonus on his dvd which despite it's short length is incredibly genuine. I watched bo since he released "I'm bo yo" and I'm really glad to see how his name's blowing up with his new material
Can't wait for the next bo Burnham reaction. If you ever do a entire album special then I suggest you go in the order of What, Make Happy, Inside. As it shows the journey of his music.
he actually had a panic attack during this song. those screams were practically out of pain. you can see the pain in his eyes at the end when he says "i hope you're happy". after he walked off stage, he broke down crying for an hour and had to be administered oxygen because he couldnt breathe. he also immediately started his 5 year long break after leaving this stage. just a fun fact. i love how strong and powerful he is.
not completely true after finishing filming the speial in new york he still had a lot of the tour left , and he finished the tour before leaving stand up

I like the comparison to Lil Dicky. Their senses of humor are quite different, but they share a similar niche market. There is plenty of comedy music, but Lil Dicky and Bo, although funny, are unironically great musicians. Like, ERB is good musical comedy, but it’s a bit more detached from the soul, and I wouldn’t jam to it in the car. Lil Dicky and Bo are being funny but still performing from the heart. I think people hesitate to take them seriously as musicians and lyricists. I’m not saying they’re my top 2 favorites, but I think more people would list them among their favorites if the cultural bias wasn’t so dismissive of their artistic legitimacy.

@Maxwell Long Okay rather this was his last concert or not he still took a 5 year break after this tour was done, even he said in his new song he took a break.

He was 100% inspired somewhat by Hans Teeuwen who is a Dutch comedian. Even in his new special, he has a part that is so closely related to what he does. Talking to a sock hand puppet. Also Hans plays piano and does comedy songs as well. He said he was an influence in the Green Room show when he was talking with a bunch of comedians.

i think the fact he did it in the style of Kanye's rant is very deliberate too; Kanye is also a dude who has some real mental issues that need addressing but cause he's famous and performing publicly, the things you might call 'manic episodes' with anybody else are instead described as 'crazy onstage rant' and go viral and are viewed and made fun of by millions of people. I think this song shows that Bo has some sympathy for Kanye, and that he used the same sort of performance to talk about how he feels like he's got an unhealthy relationship with performing and it might be negatively impacting his mental health...like Kanye.
