- We are proud and honored to share “Everyday People,” produced by Playing For Change in partnership with Turnaround Arts.
Turnaround Arts infuses struggling schools with arts as a strategy for reform. The program was founded by President Obama's Committee on the Arts and Humanities and is now run by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Turnaround Arts currently works in 73 schools, 38 districts, and 17 states and the District of Columbia.
"Everyday People" features Turnaround Arts students alongside their Turnaround Artists including Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Paula Abdul, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Banks, Keb' Mo, Forest Whitaker, and many more performing this timely song by Sly and the Family Stone.
This video was created to inspire the idea that all children deserve access to the arts in school and that the arts have the power to create change.

Creating these videos motivated us to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of our mission, featuring musicians met along our journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. I’m an old man who is battling cancer. This song and Playing for change, are one of the best things to happen in the recent past.. I sit home most of the time because can’t speak anymore due to the cancer. Music is the best medicine for our hearts and minds. It’s certainly helping me get through my personal sense of loss and grief..I applaud all of the incredibly talented people/ musicians who have brought this about, and want you to know how much your beauty has lifted my soul and spirit..❤

One of the best things I've seen in awhile!! When I watched Quest Love's Oscar winning documentary, "The Summer of Soul", I was struck by how progressive Sly and the Family Stone's band was. Female and male musicians, singers, all races, singing for peace but what a groove. Here we are, decades later, still trying to convince people not to hate.

I watch this at least once a week, while I'm here in my VA hospital bed. it makes me smile where there isn't much to smile about. I'm stage four leukemia and this is it. I REFUSE to say WHY ME? ONLY WHY NOT ME!!! I will NOT question the good Lord for a split second, and I hope if any of you are EVER in my shoes, you remember this as well... Thanks Kids for making me smile.

I don't know what made me think of this song in the middle of the night, sitting by myself and I don't stop thinking... my mind goes from one extreme to another but in a good way, I get so sad and emotional, I have a good heart and can't figure out why the world is the way it is... I love love... I was thinking about my family, the horrible gossip and lies, how we talk to and about each other... I don't like bringing this up but I didn't realize there was so much hate in this world until the last election mixed with COVID-19, etc. I love rainbows, no favorite color, I've been on the streets,in the ghetto and met wonderful people I'll never see again, sometimes I'd rather be there than in a house or society that carries so much negativity. Don't get me wrong, I am so blessed with many things... I've always loved this song and with my thoughts,it popped in my heart, I wish we all could be like this, I watched and listened with tears and wanting to be right there dancing and singing with everyone... this is what it's about!!! My mama and daddy brought us up colorblind, thank the Lord! They were ahead of their time in thinking and action. The world was very accepting of prejudice when I was small. I remember asking Daddy why and he told me that they were ignorant and judged with sight and hate. He told me never to judge by color or where the person was from or how they believed, but to listen to them and look them in the eyes... then decide whether to like them or not. He was a wise man! Love this song... makes me so happy. I just want to jump in the screen, hold hands with them and dance too!
