My grandpa flew 26 missions over Germany and occupied France during WWII as a pilot in the B-17 with the 423rd Bomb Squadron, 306 Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force out of Thurleigh, England, and when I asked him on which German aircraft he feared most, he said without hesitation it was the FW-190. He passed in '93. I miss fishing with him and having conversations with him about aviation and the planes he flew.
It’s got huge firepower and is very fast in a straight line and a dive,definitely something to be fearful of. It would not be conducive to good mental health to see one of these with the jump on you at full speed even in a P51 or spitfire.
My great grandad was also a B 17 pilot! He flew around 14 missions before he was shot down in the North Sea. He was the only survivor. They were shot down by a BF 109 if I'm not mistaken, although it may have been a 190.

As an aircraft mechanic, I'd just like to say that the P-51 that bent its prop most likely bent the crankshaft, considering the prop stopped spinning (meaning the engine stopped). Fixing that is a full engine rebuild, much more than just replacing the prop
@@GrowlingSidewinder If the parts are on site and the mechanics worked 'round the clock, it'd probably take a day or two to fix. That pilot also probably shit his pants. So you can put half a kill mark on the plane ;)
@@thepinkplushie and if it maxed out the suspension then the excess force had to go somewhere. the entire airframe would need inspection. practically speaking at the frontline of a warzone, that plane is likely scrapped for parts.

So with the bombers that you hit and they exploded, I suppose it’s possible that you were detonating the bomb loads (though with multiple 500 pound bombs, I’d imagine that those things going off inside the bomb bay would turn the plane into confetti).
I really love the VR WWII stuff GS. Please continue to make them, even as a labor of love if necessary. They are so fun, and you are incredibly good with the stick even in these old planes, it never really gets old.

Warbirds are always appreciated. I'd like to see you fly some of the aircraft that aren't as popular. There's plenty of aircraft in IL-2 that we haven't seen you fly like the HS129, The Hornisse, Hurricane, BF110 and some of the Junkers.

Aerial combat then is a combination of beauty and tragedy at the same time. Devastating that target aircraft and letting your guns rip him to bits is quite a beauty too, though human lives is indeed lost every time that bullet chew the target aircraft to bits.

Yeah absolutely NO DOUBT that the Fw 190 A-8 is a Heavy Bomber Killer, and very easy to fly too, I’m no expert pilot, but even I got like 35+ Heavy Bomber kills lol
Hey you should check out the P-39 Airacobra. It was considered to be a turd by US and other allies but the Soviet pilots fell in love with it apparently and kicked a lot of ass with it. They had dozens of P-39 aces, some with upwards of 30, 40, 50 victories in it. Its an odd little fighter with car style doors and a fat 37mm canon in the nose. Its only really useful at low altitudes which is why the Soviets liked it as thats where they did most of their fighting.
250 and 70 kilogram bombs, not pounds, so almost double the load. At 10:05, it, most likely wasn't the 20mm, but the 30mm, you had mounted in the wings. And BTW, at the beginning you were flying the FW 190 F8, not the A8, and you took off with the flaps in landing position.
German planes were interceptors. Planes like the FW-190 A-8 were armed to the teeth with cannons. It made them less suitable for dogfighting, but that wasn't really their job. Goring needed those bombers stopped!
Love the FW-190! Keep up the WW2 content, love the history and non-electronics/missiles of the WW-2 warbirds! Any F-4 Corsair plane action VS Japanese planes would be awesome too.
A prop strike generally destroys more than the prop. The shock loading on the rotating prop shaft can severely damage the engine. That's why a good pilot will turn the engine off just before a belly landing.
If I may suggest, just go through all the aircraft featured in IL-2 and share your thoughts. I'd love to see the Jug, Hellcat, and Corsair, but I'd love to hear your opinions on other aircraft like the Zero, Spitfire, and Soviet fighters of that era.
I love all your content, but these videos in particular are my favorites in a very close game. That and funniest death moments. Keep up the great work my guy.
Nice content! You make this feel so easy to do.....Playing in DCS or IL2, I just can´t win a single dogfight...I´m allways the pilot shooted down. I keep watching your videos to learn someting.
Absolutely, practice. And don't be shy to use that F5 (external padlock) view a lot, it helps getting a better SA during the fight and trains you how the whole thing works so you can then do it from the cockpit view later on. You just ideally start off flying something that can turn better than its adversaries since it's usually easier for beginners to win those fights.
People always say the Fw-190F-8 was terrible at turning because it carried bombs and had less guns, but it's quite literally just a lighter A-8, which is already quite nice

Cool video. Just FYI, a prop strike (on that P-51) is a no go. The engine would probably need replacing, at minimum re-built! Love this IL-2 gameplay.

The Hellcat, Corsair and Japanese aircraft aren't in this IL-2.

Practice makes perfect. Just keep at it.
