On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

I remember a story about the test pilot Tex Johnston in an early jet, the pilots in other planes had no idea what they were seeing with a plane with no propellers. (He also rolled a 707 airliner, causing Boeing executives to have a heart attack)
I can only imagine the trauma of those very first allied crewmen who bore witness to this technological terror.

What's amazing is that the aircraft in your video are only separated by roughly 25 years.
Imagine what crazy stuff we will have in 2050 though. Maybe not airframes necessarily but certainly avionics and missile systems.

I will never get tired of watching you fly around in this plane and effortlessly blowing up other aircraft and folding them in half with the artillery battery strapped to this thing's nose. It's absolutely hilarious to watch.

Id even argue the MiG-15 has a thrust advantage while sacrificing roll rate compared to the F-86 (the opposite is true for the F-86 as well)
Even more interesting would be a 1946 scenario - Me 262 against P-80s, Meteors, and MiG-9s
That looks like loads of fun, I wonder though, can a WW1 plane be brought down just by the supersonic boom from let say an F-15 or something with a huge engines flying really close?
Ya lol you’d probably light it on fire if you went by close enough with the Afterburner lol.
If you flew past one in something like an F-22 going full afterburner, the shear thrust from the engines alone would shred apart a little knitted WWI plane
I'm guessing prop wash from a P-38, 47, F4U, etc. would turn them into match sticks.
Plus less closure rate should = more time for target selection.

Closure rate would probably make the WWI planes quite difficult to hit with a gun. Wonder if a Fox 2 would be possible with the little heat the engines put out.
The fact the planes just start spinning out of control the second they get hit by the 262's guns is legit terrifying!!
It only takes 1, but they always get at least 8-9 rounds
Could you imagine being in the surviving aircraft in that first wing? Out of nowhere half or more of your buddies just seem to randomly explode mid air, right in front of you, no flames initially, no visual on air defenses or hostile aircraft, then all of the sudden you hear the roar of 30mm hellfire and the scream of a jet.
I mean shit, the 262 could come in from heights they probably didn't think possible, at least by anything but maybe a blimp/zepplin. Not to mention was carrying basically artillery compared to what they had at the time.
That nose gunner at 8:38 didn't get hit...the spin broke him on the side rail and the G's from the spin made him unconscious.(credit to the developers)At least it was quick and he didn't watch his impending doom come straight at him.

Those sounds made by the enemy pilots went from manly, to less manly, to girlish cries, to shear terror in order as the reality hit in.
This was so much fun. It would be great to watch a "'go back in time series" where you create these crazy scenarios.

I laughed with tears as he was plowing through the enemy formation, in the first few seconds of the video. As they were screaming in cartoonish agony, I laughed even harder! And finally, hearing him choking with laughter himself, I laughed with tears. Curious what would a 30-mil high-explosive round do to a WW1, wood and canvas aircraft? Wonder no more, the answer is epic!
It would also be effective anti-armor, and some strafing runs of the trenches could have completely broken morale.
Not with just one 262. There's too much chance of catching a lucky bullet.

That isn't possible for now sadly, the A-10 is only in DCS, but the ME262 is only on IL2, hopefully it does come to DCS one day, a full fidelity 262 would be great

Much like the "what-if" scenarios of sending a modern U.S carrier group back into the Pacific theatre of WW2, the impact is surprisingly lackluster. Once the carrier group is out of advanced missiles and other high-tech weapons, they can't really do much and the America of the 1940s can't re-supply them. Germany from 1914-19 wouldn't be able to service ME-262s either.
Sure looked like a lot of fun though.

Would be interesting to see a Soviet I-16 go back in time to fight WWI fighters. Closer in size/maneuverability and rifle caliber guns that won't be as op as a 30mm cannon.

Even better, but probably not possible based on playable assets, is the Nimitz carrier wing destroying the Japanese strike group if they hadn’t returned to their time.
A night fight where your aircraft has radar and they are strictly visual is going to feel similar.

Also, could you please show us ground strafes with different weapon setups from ground perspective? We all know how A10 Brrrt sounds from the ground and looks on target, some even know that for Viper's 20mm, but I really wonder how a 37 mm, 6 x 50 cal., 23 mm MiG-21 and 30 mm MiG-29 long strafes would look and sound on target!

How about a series on the 262 vs allied fighters like the P-51D and the Spitfire. It would be really great to see how these iconic planes stack up versus each other and how each would use their strengths against the other.

It’s been kinda done in the past. The 262 will boom and zoom and the p51/Spitfire will try and turn fight. Whichever side that can execute will win. The 262 cannot win a turning fight and the prop planes would lose if the 262 can drop down from above and pull away over and over.

Great fun. I wonder how the ME262 does against modern jets in a dogfight! Is the leap of technology also as big as a ME262 in WW1? Might be a fun video suggestion for you.
With missles involved? Yeah, the technical gap would be similar, if not greater. With missles, its over in seconds.
As fun as that was, I don't think your cannon rounds would fuze going through the wing of a WW1 plane. I also wonder if an FW-190 or ME-109 would be even more effective due to having slightly longer to line up and shoot.

It's crazy how fast technology was advancing back then. There's not even 30 years between WW2 and WW1. As a comparison, the F-22 is around 20 years old and still the best thing available.
