    Great video as ever gents, I was lucky enough to see it at Glasgow a few weeks back and it was spectacular to say the least, a very simple track plan but plenty of operational potential within a small space. Had a great chat with Mark about the concept and all things model railway to which was nice. Look forward to seeing the complete series over the coming weeks to and how you got it to the completed article for MRS. Keep up the great work as always

    I'm actually planning a 00/009 layout for my living room atm (since it turns out the loft isn't included in our flat purchase), which'll include a diesel depot like this above the TV to display a load of my models. So I 'll be taking some pointers from this.

    Until you moved indoors, I was thinking that all that was missing was Richard saying "There's another fine mess you've gotten us into," and that you really shouldn't take any jobs delivering pianos up long flights of steps.
    Lovely little build, though, chaps.

    Super cool module that I've just thought of controlling level crossing gates via different methods to try out with glass reed switches as the remote press buttons. The copper coated wire I find hateful to solder to and tin. Are there any good tips on getting a good joint. My other pet hate is lead-free solder, also hateful to use.

    • @hornbymag

      These are copper clad sleepers to hold the rails in place at the baseboard joints because it is a portable layout. You can buy versions of these from DCC Concepts which are black with solder pads on them.

      I think as the locos will be running slowly, cork or other underlay to cut noise isnt needed?

    • @164DiecastVideos

      Once you ballast it reverbs anyway so its negligible.

    • @hornbymag
      @hornbymag  Před rokem

      Like the replies, we didn’t see the need for cork as there is very little payback in noise transition at slow speeds, particularly after ballasting. If it was a main line layout there would definitely have been cork underlay.

    Hi Guy's, looks like a bit of smoking mirrors this one, Building a diesel Depot part 1. Its a bit misleading. Looks like this is the only video you get free & have to be a member of Key-publishing to get the others so guess it will be a pay job? What else is misleading is the price of the Depots at £85 & £130 with the bit on the end. All sounds good until you realise you are using at least 2 x units to make your depot so well over £200. These things should be made aware to viewers as it looks like a bit of sharp practise & I'm sure you don't want to be labeled as that. So let's have the full info so we all know what the score is. Thank you.

    • @hornbymag
      @hornbymag  Před rokem

      Thank you for the feedback - we take it all on board. We have included the pricing for the depot kits in this video - sadly timber prices aren't what they used to be. @@hornbymag As I said sharp practice. If you were up front why not give all parts for free? Part 2 you have to sign up to get & parts 3 & 4 are only then available if you pay the subscription. People have got wise to this sort a con. First the banks, then the government it's seeping everywhere. None of you can lay in the bed straight.

      @@robbiecook8770 you don’t get nothing for nothing. This is a business and as such it is run in a way any business should. CZcams isn’t only for people creating free content; it’s for businesses and brands to use it as a promotional tool to bring in more interest and customers. If you want to watch a movie you pay for Netflix, so if you want to watch the whole series of building a diesel depot then you pay for that too. Nothing to be gained from complaining.

    • @robbiecook8770
      @robbiecook8770 Před rokem +1

      @@NewtonGrove19F Hi Newton Grove, I come from a generation where we paid for everything & not a spoon feed culture of today expecting it all for nothing so I don't need preaching to. There are plenty of people giving freely on youtube their ideas & help wanting nothing in return, take Charlie on Chadwick Model Railway for instance. At 78 & building my first model railway I need all the help I can get especially as it's DCC & all the electrics involved. I'm most thankful to all those in the model world that give their help & advice freely. My point about the Diesel Depot from Hornby Magazine & Keymodelworld was they showed the first part FREE (as if boasting about it) stating that the next 3 parts would be over the next 3 Fridays. They never stated that it was for sign up members thereafter so I felt it was a way of sharp practice. If you have nothing to hide be up front open & honest is that what we now expect in this day & age? Governments & local bodies have to by law. It just left me with a bitter taste when I followed up for week two. My first reaction was what's the con. It's put me on my guard of dealing with Keymodelworld as thats not the sort of practice I like. Be honest & up front, if I have to pay I can then make a choice whether to or not. The concept of the Depot was great & very helpful though I never saw it through as I felt it somewhat misleading in what you would actually need. To achieve their design 2 x depot building were needed without the extra bit. To build as shown you needed at least £215 for the depot sheds. I'm sure there was a profit to be made from those parts alone let alone all the rest of the parts you would need to complete the project over the next 3 weeks. Profit is not a dirty word in my vocabulary it's needed to make the world go round. I've been in business all my life. It the integrity in how you make that profit.
      Guess I'll just have to wait for all those invoices from Charlie @ Chadwick Model Railway. Robbie.
