Topley Dale was one of the layouts that heavily influenced my own when I was getting back into the hobby but I'm already looking forward to seeing what's next.Your layout building videos are always fantastic and those in charge must see the value in them too if they've given you more space to play with! 👍

    Hi Mike,
We in this part of the world have done away with using Plywood sheets for the Base Board and moved on to using PVC FOAM BOARDS with excellent results. They are less susceptible to bending or wrapping (provided correct thickness selected and adequate bracing done) and it is far more durable and long lasting since it is waterproof and do not attract termites or wood rot. It also withstands varying temperatures and comes in the exact size of a plywood board.
You might wanna try it on the new layout.
Cheers and all the best with the new build.

I'm devastated to see Topley Dale go. I started reading Hornby Magazine just before you started building it, so I can picture when it was just a baseboard, when you put the platforms in, all the times you used it as the background for reviews etc, and to me Hornby Magazine is inextricably linked to the Topley Dale layout as if they were one and the same. I hope Topley Dale gets resurrected somewhere, as (at least to me) it's everything a model railway should be. If not, I'd try to buy part of it and ship it here to Australia; it's just too good to let go.

    Hi To You Both,
All good things must come to an end and as Mike said this was a good learning curve so the same problems will not be built into the new layout so bring it on and as it is going to be new from the baseboard up can I suggest that a thought be given to doing what is needed to control it by the computer softwares like Traincontroller or iTrains this would then give you another string to your bow for interesting videos and for the growing number of modellers now using these systems maybe a whole new group of people will look at your channel. I look forward to seeing the build but please put some of it out on YT as we are not all signed up to keypublishing. I wonder what Mike will now do with his garage it is possible that a car my fit or his own new layout!!!!!.
    Cheers Robert.
