Just call it "EXTRA DETAIL"
"Authentic ODST helmet" ;)
Hey Andrew thanks for making tutorials for this ODST costume my bully has been saying I’m worthless you can’t do anything but at my school we make our costume of any thing so decided to pick up the ODST outfit and my bully saw it and he was just like what how his that even possible so thank you really much 👍
keep up the work buddy!
Eres una gran persona, if you don t talk spanish, you are amazing man
Jaxson Ryan woah thats ready cool story
Wow that bully would make sure to never ever mess with u again!😁
OORAH
Congratulations to everyone who has been following along and building =) Cant wait to see all your amazing work in pictures on the net =) What costume would you like to see next done in this style let me know so together we can build more costumes in the time ahead =D thank you !
I would love a halo reach Emile mask but if you're bored of halo, possibly dark souls artorius, really cool piece that doesn't seem too challenging
I was never able to make this Armour because I didn't have the money but I still watched it because I love your videos and hope to be able to do this in the future
maybe felix's armour from RvB, or a destiny titan if your bored of halo
Dark souls Astorias sounds cool.
Noble 6 armor :D
for the visor, i just went out and bought a colored motorcycle visor and cut it using a soldoring iron. it can also be cut by heating it with a heat gun in stages and just cutting quickly with a knife. a motorbike visor is around $20 and is great if you want something that will last forever
How did u get it to have the ODST angled visor look?
i dont think he did but thats stll a good idea
Something that I use for my visors is a hard plastic, then I use a mirror tint to make it one side reflected. I used it on my operator helmet when I created my full spartan armor.
@@TheRefresh987 Thatz what I'm planning on doing for my MK5 helmet. Can you see through it easily?
This has been a huge help. Like you said in many of these videos making my own design is a lot more unique and I appreciate the base that you have provided
thank you so much!!!!
I have justo finished my ODST cosplay (only left painting)
you are great, keep doing this
greetings from México!!!
late but you should upload a vid of it
This series is legit the only one that i found to be useful compared to others on youtube. you explain each video so thoroughly and how to do each technique well. i personally cannot wait to get started on my own thanks to you :) keep doing whatcha doing, its awesome!
Hmm... You should make some UNSC pilot armor
He made a tutorial for Halo 3 marine armor, so as long as you can figure out how to make the helmet, the rest should be easy.
Is th unsc thing hao because I made a name for it, United Nations Space Command
@@potatokilr7789 the helmet should be fairly easy cuz it should just be the ODST helmet but with a slim visor and more pronounced breather and also without the cheeks
Absolutely LOVE the armor, can't wait to make my own! Great tutorials, man! Keep it up!!
You are GREAT! So generous with sharing your skills and techniques! I am embarking on making my first foam costume for my grandson this weekend at the cottage where Web service is very slow so I am watching and making notes on the templates before leaving home. Thanks to your generous sharing of your videos, I do believe that I , who have only used foam as a supporting structure in fabric sewn costumes, shall be successful in completing this intricate costume in time for Halloween this year. Thank you so much and I will try to share the results with you when finished, although I'm not very good at computing skills and may need my son, his father to do that.
Hey Andrew! Sage here. Been following your this web series and I plan on building my own Reach ODST soon. I appreciate everything you have done for us beginner's. I am 17 years old and have been doing this since I was 15 and I have exceeded beyond my potential I thought I was capable of. And it all started after I discovered you and your work. Thanks Andrew.
im loving the tutorials im having a great time working on my armor im about half way through i just finished the guantlets which really were tough to do but in the end they came out fine but i had a question on how to attach the butt plate to the rest of the armor because you did not discuss it in this final tutorial but otherwise im loving the series ive never worked with foam before so its a great challenge i really havent stopped working on it in my free time ive taken maybe one day off since ive started and this tutorial has given me the chance to change up my look a little for this convention i go to every year normally i do assassins creed stuff but this tutorial has given me a chance to mix it up and stick out more instead of hiding in the backrounds of peoples pics so thank you for making this tutorial and when my armor is done i can share with you and see how you like it
Just wanted to say I've appreciated all your videos. I've been working hard. I'm making an ODST costume using some of the techniques used in both sets of your ODST videos. I've been frantically working to get this together in under a month! for a first timer build, it's been a challenge, but I really appreciate all the work you brought in making these videos. They are very helpful. Maybe I can share a pic when I get finished or close :) Thanks again!
Thank you for that web series, Andrew DTF! I have been wanting to make some kind of foam armor for a while, and this series has inspired me to make my own ODST armor set. What you do is amazing, and I am Thankful that you do what you do.
Cheers man glad ya enjoyed =D
You are so awesome for making this series. Hoping to at least make the helmet soon.
You're great! currently following this to make my cosplay for this years comicon in liverpool UK ! Love it!
i absolutely love this series, i definitely plan on making my own version! do you plan on making a master chief suit tutorial? that would be amazing if so
Thank You sooooo much for doing this series, I have allways wanted to build a armor and this is extremly awsome.
Have learn much and am Ready for help My friend to build a ODST armor too
Well done Andrew, nice to see a tutorial for people who have just started halo cosplaying as its mostly difficult to dive in, you've made it nice and simply and easy for people top work, - Two Penny Props
Waiting on supplies to arrive from amazon but I'm super excited to start working on this
Nice job.......I'm on the shin plates......and I'm going to start on the Marine armor this weekend.....I wish more makers made videos...this is the way to go! Great job!

@Andrew DFT Thank you for the amazing video tutorial its really helped me save time and money!
Thank you for doing this, I'm gonna try and do this with my grandpa once we're done moving. Also, could you possibly do a tutorial on how you painted the mud/dirt onto your armor?
I made the costume 2 years ago forgot to subscribe so I did love the videos keep it up
love the visor method!
Great tutorial/web series mate. I plan to do this eventually! Great job =)
I am making an ODST costume, I'm 13, i'll be making it on Christmas, I found this video and was amazed and joyed, mainly cause it's more cheap than buying and 450$ costume kit, So THX for this video!
You look rad in the armor!
Very amazing result !!! I will try this !!!
Awesome tutorial man! Gonna hopefully buy some foam and start making a whole ODST set from your tutorials!
Also do you think that maybe you can make a Spartan Locke costume in the future? That'd be sick!!
Brilliant
Love It
My mate recommended this to me, and holy hell, am I happy he did
(Now i just gotta save for the eva foam haha!!)
Again another amazing build man. keep up the great work. I look forward to putting mine together next year. I intend to use mine for airsoft so ill be taking the visor a step up for eye and face protection. Will you have any tutorials on building rifles aswell?
love this tutorial series, you've made building this armor so simple unlike other types.
Would it be possible if you could do a Mandalorian full armor build? I'm currently intimidated by it and i have a few friends asking me to build them either the helmet or full armor
I've made a company and I have my first sale!!! Thank you Andrew for your tutorials they are very well made.
@OMTS Its unofficial, but in my neighborhood I am selling helmets and armor. I will open a website when I have 3 sales.
this video is very helpfull for all EVA foam costumes tnx
my son is verrrrry happy thanksssss, again
Just finish the series and just wanted to say thank you very much for doing this series. There are other tutorials out their but they use time laps and don't really explain how to do it. Building my own Halo Reach Armor is something I wanted to do for a long time but every really know how to do. Once I save enough money, I am going to start building my own ODST Armor. Andrew, I only have one question can you gave me in estimate on how many EVA form boards I need for this project?
andrew I was wondering where you would find an alastic straps for my costume it is turning out well and I hope in the future I could be just like you so far I'm only having trouble with beveling even though I have a sharp blade thanks I love your vids and all the inspiration
Your handsome and also great builder and I love the outcome
Thanks I’ll be making this in my spare time
Helmet looks a little rough, but that's a hard shape to get without pepakura. Solid tutorial.
Hey Andrew! I just started painting my ODST costume, I'll be wearing it at comic con, and I was wondering how I could send in pictures? I really appreciate this series, I've wanted to be an ODST since I was a little kid and now my dream is coming true thanks to you :)
This is awesome
Hey andrew, so glad you made this Web series I've been wanting to make a set of odst armour for a while. I bought the templates about a week ago and i got the foam and I've so far finished the helmet with a comm pack and the torso and chest plate and it's great. this is my first project using eva foam and I'm going to get some more soon and finish all the other pieces. and even my parents were surprised and I hope when I finish the whole set I'll be able to just dress up every once and awhile. I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and to keep it up man! Sincerely, Fury
Cheers man means allot =) Thats excellent that you are giving it a go and your on your way to getting it all finished! =D Id love to see the final result =D
+Andrew DFT I'll make sure to post a video on my channel when it's all finished!
+Andrew DFT when I get back from school I'm going to make an update video on the stuff I have so far
+Andrew DFT just made the video displaying the pieces I have so far and will keep them coming!
I loved this video
Good work.
Hi Andrew, great work. I purchased your ODST templates and are super impressed with how they turn out. Currently have three helmets and body armour / chest plate done. I wanted to know, I saw your Titanfall pilot helmet, do you produce the templates for that?
Keep up the good work
i have one thing i wanted to ask you and thats if with armor design me and my friend can use them to make halo videos
look amazing
great job.
yes you are super awesome:) i love your cosplays
Awesome Tutorial ur rlly sick! :D
How does one make the edges of the helmet rounded, I'm asking for a friend who wants his armor to look 99.99 percent game accurate...
Codey Dewey if you want a helmet thats accurate, perhaps try to use a pepakura model and then fibreglass it, no offense AndrewDFT
clean cuts, when cutting out the patterns. Then instead of using hot glue for glueing the pieces together, use contact cement. Tjeres two types you can buy, one has toxic fumes and should be used outside, then theres the none fume contact cement which i use when doing this build.
It provides a cleaner look once the pieces are glued, and you wont get the messy hot glue everywhere.
Then, once your done your build take a dremel, and dremel all the edges down..your trying to get rid of the sharp edges that looks like its foam.
Once your done that, like it shows in the video to get rid of seams, use the paper clay...lit it dry and sand it down.
If you did all this you should have a very clean and good quality odst helmet build..its longer steps but PATIENTS always pays off!
Cheers! hoped that helped you by anyway?
Codey Dewey get cut the corners off until it becomes as round as possible, for example; Cutting a square corner so it becomes more of a hexagonal shape, cutting those corners so it becomes octagonal and so on, then sand it from there.
Codey Dewey so I made this whole costume and it's all near perfect minus the helmet. I'd recommend using some kind of pepakura fiberglass method instead of foam, because I've tried for months to make the top of the EVA foam helmet more round and just can't
Use the heat gun and curve the foam more
Andrew did I miss the part were you put Mag pouches and the holster for the ODST pistol or did you not say? I’m going to start building the suit soon and I want to make sure about that cause it looks pretty cool how you had it .
Have you considered using a lense from a paintball mask for the lense of a helmet? It would take some modifying to the foam in order to make it flush, but I think it would look really good
hey Andrew. thanks for the build I am currently working on it right now. I was just curious though. how many mats do we need to get?
just a technical question: why to you apply the PVA glue before painting the foam. I mean, wouldn't it be more useful to apply it after to also protect the color?
Freddy Fazbear's SFM base coat is a grey spray, from an aerosol can. that stuff eats through foam, so the watered down glue is to protect the foam from the spray, but still hold the paint on. you could use a can of plastidip spray, but that stuff is $20 or more a can, way cheaper to just use glue and regular spray paint.
plastidip is like 5 bucks
it could ruin the look of the paint
THANK YOU SO MUCH !
Thanks
Great looking suit man! Hey, you totally should make something from overwatch~
you are my hero 👍👍👍
Where did you get the elastic straps from?
Can't wait till mine is finish but how do u make ur visor look shiny and reflective
if I had to leave this in the car is it going to fall apart with the heat or is the Woodgate going to hold everything together?
Hey Andrew, i'm at the gauntlet, but will probably redo the helmet because even though i could use wood putty or wood glue, it would just be to much work. After the helmet and half way through the chest I instantly improved my way of craft, don't ask me how cause i don't know, so i would probably do way better on the helmet. I'll send you a photo with the finished result.
When I make this I'm definitely going to use black and red
Do you have a tutorial on one of the guns
Lmao he does
hey thanks a lot I'm getting pretty good at it now I think I've made three of each piece now do you know of any other places I can get more templates maybe even some more advanced ones? also what size exactly are you supposed to print out the templates I've been messing around with it and doing a different one for each one but I wouldn't mind knowing besides I'm supposed to use I'm guessing 4A?
It is awesome
When you painted your armor the primary colors, did you just hand paint the whole thing? Wouldn't spray painting it be easier just like you did with the primer? And after painting the whole thing, would applying another coat of the wood glue make it better so it doesn't have that kind of matte texture of acrylic paint?
Hey Andrew, I have only just started the build and I was wondering is there a possibility you could make a tutorial on the odst jetpack they always wear? I feel like it would complete the backside more than just bare armor. Thanks for reading it if you did :)
EDIT: If you have already made one or if it is in the tutorial I apologize, I just haven't gotten there yet or found that other video and pdf
As a guy who used to do metalworking, i want to make this costume out of steel one day :)
Great Idea - Check out YT: Migil Vigil He took these templates and made them in metal plate =D
Hi! i'm currently working on the armor but I was wondering. How is the flexibility? especially in the midsection? How does kneeling or grabbing something off the ground feel? Or can you? haha
What kind of clothing did you use for under the armor? I know this is an old video, but do you think you could show us how ya did it?
great
I would love to see a noble six costume from halo reach
Nice
hey i think i am ready for something a little harder i was thinking maybe a helljumper variant spartan from halo 5 or maybe even an elite zealot or minor from reach
My visor didn't turn out the first two times I did it and I'm wondering whether or not to do two layers or if that'll impair the vision. Thanks
What do you use for the undersuit? Looks kinda like a flight suit.
I'm planning on making one of these costumes but in the urban style we see in Halo 3
What is a cheap one way seeing material for visors because in halo the visor has to different "modes" the regular variant for when there in combat and the passive variant where you can see the odst's face please respond soon I'm probably going as this for Halloween
If I made a white suit of armor, would a grey under coat and silver for the scratches work? Thanks
Finally, a tutorial that does'nt involve a 3D printer
I know this is an old video. I want to make this costume for comic con next year, what would you recommend for an undersuit?
I'd like to put visor effects on the inside (obviously not working) but for a more authentic look for me.
About how many sheets of foam did you need to make the armor? also, can the files be adjusted for height?
Wow! I love your channel! I had one question though. How did you get your personal visor to have a reflective lens? I would really like mine if no one could see into the helmet!
Use car window tint. You can buy it online in like any color and you can't see into it from the outside. For the visor I'd recommend using plexi glass so it's more durable
Do you think it's a good idea to use magnets to connect your weapons to your armor
Can u please make templates and a tutorial on how to make the helmet shown on the cover of your book?
Great build.... Really got me inspired.... But i do have one question? How can you make the armour tough..... is there any thing we can use to the protect the armour from Airsoft or Paintballs? Any kind of fiber glass you could suggest? many thanks
caramelcommando you could apply a layer of polyester resin, not sure if to wil melt the foam so I'd test on a scrap peice of foam first
i know this is an idiot question but, whre can i find foam? PD: u are rly amazing man, i think im going to try do this rly thanks for this tutorial
Do you think it would be possible to wear a backpack with the costume? And how did you make those grenades?
id like to do this sometime... just need to get the foam and the time to do it lol anyways i was wondering, the helemt in the thumbnail looks a little less "blocky" and more round (i know its a bad way to describe it meant no offense) was that the same techniq? or was that like a pepekura helmet or something else?
Should I apply the straps before sealing/priming?
Could a heat gun be replaced with a hair dryer to curve the foam?
How many foam board s do I need to make it because I'm looking forward to making this
