I mentioned it in another comment but I genuinely think Rouxls Kaard may end up being a secret boss.
The final secret boss is likely going to be whoever drove them mad so I could totally see Rouxls becoming the second to last.
One chapter he just goes missing and you never find him unless you find the secret boss (which would totally be locked behind several increasingly difficult puzzles with the final being his ultimate puzzle from chapter 1)
Turns out he met the strange someone (cough cough Gaster cough cough) and they told him something that has driven him mad.
(This would also foreahadow that next chapter you are going to catch up to them)
Think about it, Rouxls already has a unique speech pattern. (Spamton used [brackets] and jevil liked to repeat himself like this this!)
He is an abandoned item (jevil was the Joker card (often removed from the deck) and Spamton was spam email (ignored constantly) Rouxls is the rules card which will be thrown away or ignored once people know the rules as it's useless then)
He has a striking resemblance to gaster. (Which has got to count for something)
Honestly I find it likely that he will become a secret boss.

I know it's like a year old but i want add some stuff to ðis.
      1. Given how Rouxls himself seems like he's moving towards a story about getting outdated/discarded, (King is imprisioned and so can't get Rouxls any high positions, Queen is taking Rouxls role as a dad, and even Susie is against Rouxls joining (Rouxls joins anyway but if Rouxls continues to fight The Fun Gang (Which he will if is Check is to be believed) he probably won't even be able force himself in.))
So even if you don't believe ðe Rules Card analogy, it still seems like Rouxls is heading in ðis direction.
A lot of people believe Alvin/Gerson is The Roaring Knight, and if assume ðat's true and assume The Knight will be revealed in Chapter 5, ðat means Chapter 5 would very likely be a Writing based world, which would make a world where Rouxls Kaard would belong and not turn into stone.
(I mean It's possible The Knight is a completely seperate character but my point about a Rouxls Kaard in a Writing Fountain still stands.)
Am i just falling into Conformation Bias, probably, but it's still fun to speculate even if you're completely wrong

I don't think he'll use another card as a secret boss just purely based on the fact it'd be boring. I do think we'll be seeing him a lot more and we will be fighting him again but I really doubt it'll be anything more than just filler stuff.

Their are 4 Knights in chess and Deltarune has had alot of chess symbolism.
The Roaring Knight is a black Knight.
Rouxls Kaard is the other black Knight.
Kris is the first white Knight.
That just leads to the question of who else on our side is a knight/making fountains.

My favourite part about Rouxls is that confusion.
He could be the most important character in the game, the Knight, some sort of God, heck he could literally BE Gaster!!!
Or he could be a joke character with no importance to the story...
And somehow both seem equally likely.
Personally I'm expecting him to end up being the boss before The Knight, the final frontier before you face The Knight.
And after the fight he just has a full on breakdown, eventually just saying screw it and joining your party. (Wether actually a party member or just a joke like Berdly, lancer and starwalker who knows.)
And on weird route I could see it going one of 3 ways.
He becomes one of the final bosses, dying in one hit before transforming the damage into a heal and facing you in an epic fight where he's constantly changing the rules of the game and can't physically be damaged "THIS ISETH MINE FINAL STANDE!!!"
Or just suddenly being removed from the story after you straight up tear the Rules Card in half in the light world.
Or (though this is probably the least likely) joining you as a party member to replace Susie and Ralsei late game (probably only temporary as he would be a bit to goofy to be permanent) after all his goal is to serve the most evil person.
Though one of my favourite ideas is that he will end up missing in one of the chapters, and will become that chapters secret boss having encountered a strange someone (cough cough Gaster cough cough) and being driven mad.
I like this one the most.

    Great vid!
My personal Rouxls theory/speculation is that we’re going to see his secret-boss-ification in real time. Chapter 2 establishes that he’s always looking for someone to serve, so if he were to be given such an opportunity from a shadowy man, I think he’d take it. And getting to see a character go through the stages Jevil, Spamton, and the currently unknown others are implied to have gone through will retroactively fill in some gaps for their backstories while providing some tasty angsty dramatic irony for Rouxls once it becomes clear what’s going on with him. Plus the fact that he’s based on the rules card just screams potential for wacky fight mechanics if he were given the chance to exercise that to its full potential.
Or maybe he’ll remain a silly joke character, who’s to say?

This would imply, though, that Deltarune and Undertale are heavily connected, to the point where travelling between them is feasible. Toby has stated multiple times that he wants us to consider Deltarune and Undertale as separate things entirely, to the point where he made like a tweet after ch2 released about how glad he was that people were finally starting to see Deltarune as it's own thing rather than just in relation to undertale, so I find it hard to believe the SOUL from Undertale is the same as in Deltarune.

    excellent video! a few thoughts:
    - personally i think the knight is just a new character we haven't met, not anyone we know, particularly because of toby's note on a scrapped song before the undertale 6th anniversary livestream, about his idea for an animated intro that would end with the delta warriors ascending a staircase, flanked by every chapter's arc villain, before facing the knight; this almost definitely rules out kris, susie, ralsei, and every chapter villain as knight candidates.
    - while watching this video though, i realized that queen never said anything about darkners being unable to possess determination, which opens up the possibility of the knight being a darkner (one with no physical light world form, like ralsei seems to be)
    - Star Walker
    - in a chapter 4 fangame i'm making, the purple soul mode allows you to briefly pass through bullets as its special ability, which fits thematically because the boss is a pen (invisible ink) who was almost always treated as invisible herself. she just wants to be noticed by people and she's so precious and i love her

You say that Deltarune's prophecy is unrelated to Undertale, but you've actually fallen into a conflation trap here
You see, in Deltarune, Ralsei's whole story about the Delta Warriors banding together, sealing the fountains, and banishing the Angel's Heaven is referred to as "The *LEGEND* of Delta Rune", not the Prophecy.
    So here's what I'm thinking.
In Undertale, the prophecy was that the Angel would see the surface, return to the Underground, and then render the Underground "empty", and there are two characters who fit this role:
ASRIEL, who in the True Pacifist route becomes the *"Saving Angel"* and renders the Underground empty by freeing the monsters.
and CHARA, who in the Genocide route becomes the *"Destroying Angel"* and renders the Underground empty by destroying everyone, and everything.
In the Neutral endings, the prophecy goes unfulfilled, as the Underground remains not yet empty.
However, there is something of note in this situation, namely that *Neither the Saving nor the Destroying Angel is capable of appearing without the player being present*
Do you realize what this means?
It means that *the Angel can only exist if it comes from something that was not there before*
And from where do Angels hail?
Why, that would be *Heaven,* of course!
*The Angel descends from the Angel's Heaven*
And that would mean that in Undertale, the *Player is the Angel's Heaven!*
And since in Deltarune, the Underground has already apparently been rendered empty in a peaceful, non murdery way, or if there was never any underground to escape from in the first place...
That means that were an Angel to descend from the Angel's Heaven at this time...
It would almost certainly be *a Destroying Angel.*
Because, as we all know, the final goal of the Delta Warriors is to *banish the Angel's Heaven...*
*... And save the world from destruction!*
Yep, you heard me right. Deltarune is a game about Kris having a secret plan to sneakily lead the all powerful player to their own banishment. And the signs that Kris has this all planned out are there. You should try looking for them, but if you're having trouble, I'll definitely point some out for you!

    • @pablopereyra7126
      @pablopereyra7126 Před 2 lety +9

One thing I've seen mentioned is the theory that Kris, (somehow predicting future events) purposely woke up late on Chapter 1 so that they would be asigned with Susie as a partner, because she is essential to the plan in some way. Literally EVERYTHING else in the game stems from the two being partners. After they are grouped together, they go to the closet to get chalk. There, they fall into the darkworld and meet Ralsei. They bond, they become friends, and then they seal the fountain. Then Susie agrees to meeting up again the next day. Kris rips out the SOUL and does uh... _something._ Chapter 2 happens, Kris opens a fountain, and that's where we are left. But none of that would have happend if Kris didn't sleep in at the start of Chapter 1. Kris planned everything from the beggining. They are making all the choices that *matter.*

And don't forget the fact that Monster Kid wanted to become Kris's partner that morning, but for *some strange reason, NOBODY expected Kris to show up that day, even though Toriel acted like it was a regular morning.*
All of Monster Kids dialogue implies that they would have preferred to have waited for Kris to show up and become their partner instead of Snowy, but since nobody expected Kris to show up, of course MK would be forced to choose Snowy.

@@pablopereyra7126 There's also the matter where Kris does subtle things to influence *exactly how things will play out,* and it's ALL explicitly Kris that is doing it. It's not coincidence.
It was NOT by chance or coincidence that Susie follows Kris at the end of chapter 2.
Kris communicated nonverbally to Susie that they wanted her to follow (proven by dialogue from Susie). We had zero control over this, meaning Kris was responsible.
It was NOT by chance or coincidence that Toriel decided to bake another pie that night.
She did so to replace the pie that Kris ate the entirety of, once again, something we had no control over.
It was NOT by chance or coincidence that Susie chose to enter Kris's house.
She only entered when tempted by the prospect of Toriel baking pie, which was something Kris was ultimately responsible for.
It was NOT by chance or coincidence that Toriel suggested the sleepover.
She did so because she feared for Susie's safety after learning that her tires had been slashed very recently, which was Kris's act.
It was NOT by chance or coincidence that somebody plugged in the TV between Chapter 1 and 2.
It was Kris, and they did it ahead of time to ensure that the TV would be plugged in before they opened the fountain
What does this all prove? Well, connecting the dots, it basically proves that *from the moment Kris ate the pie and plugged the TV in between chapter 1 and 2, they knew EXACTLY what they were going to do at the end of chapter 2, meaning that Kris knew how to open Dark Fountains BEFORE hearing Queen's explanation.*

That makes sense and it could be possible but my question is why was the player sent into the world of deltarune in the first place what is our purpose besides the role as the angel that gets banished? After all we didn't choose to control Kris it just happened because the voice in the beginning (possibly gaster) wanted us to for some unknown reason.

    • @krazyivan9733
      @krazyivan9733 Před 2 lety +4

@@joshuahunter3131 You wanna know what I think it is?
Well, I'll tell you for sure that it has something to do with Gaster and an experiment of his, but what I believe is happening is that Gaster brought us into the world of Deltarune in order to test the limits of the power of Determination.
You see, in Undertale, we were the most Determined being in all of the Underground, even when it came to Omega Flowey and Asriel with all their absorbed SOULS. We know this because even if Flowey kills us, we are able to come back and LOAD our game (we are only unable to SAVE because there are no save points during the battle.) The same thing also applies to Asriel, which is literally an unlosable fight, since it's impossible for us to Game Over during it.
So, with the player being this uber-determined being, one might wonder if it would be possible for a less determined being to EVER permanently defeat the player and prevent them from loading back into the game (this gets a bit meta), and I believe this is what is happening in Deltarune. Do you remember the EULA from Deltarune's original release in 2018, which literally only contained the words "YOU WILL ACCEPT EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS FROM NOW ON" and you could either accept or cancel the install? Well, that was Gaster basically saying "Will you participate in my experiment?", and If you accept, then the experiment begins.
You see, I believe that Kris is the one on the other side of Gasters experiment. It's not certain exactly how it happened, but I believe it to be something along the lines of Gaster granting Kris the power of determination, and as much time and knowledge as they needed before they were ready to bring the player into the world. By using the time and ability to save and load, Kris gathered knowledge (including knowledge of Undertale) on ways to banish the player away, and they came up with a plan that involved using the SOUL to seal Dark Fountains, which somehow brings the player closer and closer to banishment, but Kris knew that the player would need to be led towards this goal, because if the player was allowed independence, it could wreak havoc or never actually reach the banishing point. So Kris decided to instead trick the player into thinking that they were on a grand adventure to stop an evil Knight.
By using that save/load ability to go through hundreds of "dry-runs" (Practice runs without the player's SOUL in which Kris irons out what to do and how to prevent the player from escaping the planned route to their own banishment) they formulated exactly how each Dark World should play out, as well as designing each Darkner in specific ways, especially Ralsei, who exists to aid Kris in motivating the player on the "quest to seal the fountains". Susie, however, has a part to play in sealing the player which is not yet clear.
When Kris was ready for the player's SOUL to enter the world, they stood ready to pounce, as Gaster brought them over somehow, but before the player's vessel could be created, Kris instead swiped the player's SOUL away, and at the same time, hid their original SOUL somewhere safe. By keeping the player's SOUL within themselves, they could easily prevent the player from subverting the planned events, for example, by not allowing the player to use the kitchen sink, or to only make dialogue choices that don't change how the story will play out. I have TONS more examples of Kris preventing the player from making choices if you want those as well.
However, Kris is not omnipotent, so they weren't able to account for literally everything that the player might be able to do within Kris's planned adventure, and this is what the Snowgrave route, or more accurately, the WEIRD route entails. The route is referred to as the WEIRD route within the game's code, and that is because it is a route that is SO WEIRD and unintuitive that Kris didn't even realize the possibility that it might happen while they were preparing for the player to be brought into their world. It's basically a crack in the foundation of Kris's whole plan; we might not be able to collapse the whole thing, but we CAN exploit this weakness. If you would like to hear more about this, lemme know, because I have proof of this, and I can show you how Ralsei accidentally spills the beans on Kris's whole conspiracy
Yes, I do think about this a lot. This theory has been over half-a-year in the making.

Given deltarune is a meta commentary on the relationship between art and consumer, toby is the most likely candidate for knight in my mind; after all, he's the one literally writing the stories
At the same time, this means it's likely he is to remain a distant force all throughout since, you know, the player doesn't actually interact with toby himself

  • @AJLord
    @AJLord Před 2 lety +17

My personal theory on who Kris is is that they are the Deltarune version of Frisk.
    1) Kris is an anagram of Frisk, without the F.
    2) Kris's skin and hair colors are almost if not completely identical to Frisk's, rather than Chara's.
    3) Both Kris and Frisk are seen to have red eyes. I know what you may be thinking: "Doesn't Chara have red eyes?" This is a sort of Mandela Effect stemming from the Post-Geno Pacifist Ending (Pacifist Ending gotten after a finished Genocide Route). On the Genocide Route, the only time we see Chara's eyes, Chara is seen to have brown eyes, even when their face distorts into the jumpscare mode. Thus, the red eyes seen in the Post-Geno Pacifist Ending are from Frisk, not Chara. With both Kris and Frisk, the only times we see their eyes open, their eyes are red, and (as far as I know) there is no evidence to say this isn't their natural eye color. I speculate the red eyes are a result of having the DT necessary to save and load, since Kris and Frisk both have the most DT in their worlds...most of the time. On Undertale's Neutral Route, when Flowey becomes Omega Flowey (or Photoshop Flowey), he has red eyes, and the ability to save and load.
Wow, that went on a bit longer than I expected, entirely from the explanation of the eyes. Welp, might as well continue, so here we go on my theory of who the narrator is. I believe the narrator of Deltarune is Kris.
    1) Throughout the majority of the game, we are possessing Kris, so it makes sense that while that happens, Kris would keep themself entertained by narrating our adventures. This would also explain why there are no textboxes in the scenes where Kris frees themself from our control, because there's no reason for them to narrate when they're finally in control again.
    2) It has been stated by other characters in Hometown that Kris is no stranger to mischief, so that would explain the sass seen at many points in the narrator's lines.
    3) One of the biggest points of this theory is the "Nobody can choose who they are in this world." line. Although this does assume that the entity who interrupts Gaster in the character creation prologue is the same entity who narrates, this line feels in-character for Kris. When they were younger, they wanted to be like the other monsters, even wanting to be a monster themself, thus why Asgore and Toriel got them the horned headband. (This also ties into the theory that Ralsei's Light World item is the horned headband, and that Ralsei is a manifestation of who Kris wanted to be.) Eventually though, Kris realized they were just human, and could do nothing about it: *"Nobody can choose who they are in this world."*
Also, one piece of evidence that nearly undeniably confirms Kris is not the Roaring Knight is that we know the Roaring Knight created the Cyber Dark World's Fountain, and almost certainly did so AFTER Berdly and Noelle got there (there's another comment in this comment section that explains this pretty well). When Berdly and Noelle got to the computer room, we know exactly where Kris was at the time, with us, so Kris could not have created that Fountain, rouxling them out as not being The Knight.

These are all fantastic points. I'm personally torn on "the Player has commandeered Kris's Soul" idea, though. There are three details that stick in my head against it:
    1) Gaster "connects to" us as the SOUL in Chapter 1's intro so we could create the vessel, before we're forcibly disconnected by the second entity and told who we "are."
    2) A little theory-crafting, but the Shadowcrystals seem to reflect "truth" or "reality" when you gaze through them. In the Dark World, you see the Light World location in which you obtained each crystal when viewed. In the Light World, however, they're odd pieces of glass, and looking through them shows the people seen in them differently. While with Susie, looking through the glass shows her glaring angrily. While Kris is alone, however, looking through the glass causes you to see right through Kris's hand as though they weren't there. If the "truth" revealed when looking through them in the Light World is the state of one's SOUL, their emotional core, then Kris being transparent would mean that they lack one that is specifically "theirs."
    3) The player has special perceptions and senses that other characters do not. Ralsei, clearly aware of the distinction between Kris and the Player, gets you to direct your attention elsewhere to get a moment to speak to Kris alone in both Chapter 1 and 2, and by simply thinking about someone else, you're able to see and hear what's happening to them, and even participate in battle in the same capacity as normal. Chapter 2 expands on this a bit by getting tricksy with Noelle. When characters in Deltarune have dialog in parentheses, its implied that this is because they're whispering to Kris, and indeed the dialog is often addressed at Kris. However, in the "werid" route in Chapter 2, it gets extremely spelled out that most of Noelle's parenthetical dialog isn't whispered, but rather her internal thoughts that we're somehow privy to. And indeed, in retrospect, Susie also has many parenthetical asides directed at no one, and we hear her internal monologue while observing her from afar. This is still functional in the Light World, as seen with Noelle's post-"weird" route scene, as well as when Kris removes the SOUL and stashes it under the sink. We cease to be able to hear the loud running water from the tap once Kris exits the bathroom, and instead are able to hear Susie and Toriel's conversation perfectly, with the sound of running water becoming audible again the moment Kris reenters the bathroom.
It's entirely possible for this power to be tied specifically to the player rather than the SOUL, but considering that the SOUL tags along while observing in order to make inaudible dialog choices (the SOUL is the cursor for interacting with menus and choice boxes) or participate in battle, I'm inclined to believe otherwise. And if this is the power of Kris's SOUL, then they would have always had this power, and what we know of their past indicates that they've always had a... less than total grasp on the feelings of others or general social cues before we took control.

    • @petruciosxd1374
      @petruciosxd1374 Před 2 lety +2

It is interesting that when Kris and the player die, we'll hear dialogue from either Susie or Ralsei in chapter 2, but in both, we'll be presented with two options, and the soul icon will show up for the dialogue prompt anyway.
It is pretty curious though... Kris moving around while apparently lacking a soul, the red soul in Undertale coupled with Gaster saying we've been waiting for a long time, the seemingly haphazard connection with Kris instead of the Vessel, hell, maybe the red soul is both souls simultaneously? Well, according to Undertale, Kris wouldn't be able to absorb a separate human soul at the very least, so we can prooobably rule _that_ one out by default...

    • @LegendofLink64
      @LegendofLink64 Před 2 lety

@@petruciosxd1374 On the Red Soul point, while I'm not 100% sure that the player Soul in Deltarune is the exact same player Soul as in Undertale, there's a few details that lend to the possibility of it at least being a parallel version of it.
The first being dialog options in Chapter 1 with returning Undertale characters that only really make sense coming from someone who knew them in another life (asking Undyne about Alphys, greeting Sans like an old friend).
The second being the Yellow Soul mode when fighting Spamton Neo. In Undertale's rules, colored soul modes were never spontaneous. They were deliberately initiated by the magic of a given monster to suit their combat style. The Yellow Soul is a unique case in that it isn't granted by Mettaton when you fight him, but rather by Alphys, who basically coded her magic to resonate with Mettaton to activate. This is why it's automatically active at the start of the Mettaton EX fight despite Alphys not acting to trigger it.
When the player Soul in Deltarune gains the Yellow Soul mode against Spamton Neo, it seems to come out of nowhere, but if we're playing by the same rules as Undertale (a big if, admittedly) then neither Kris nor the player could have triggered it willingly. If, hypothetically, our Soul had experienced Undertale's story, then it would have been imbued with Alphys's Yellow magic with the explicit trigger of "Fighting Mettaton" Spamton Neo isn't Mettaton, but he is piloting what is effectively an MS Paint drawing of Mettaton's body made real by the power of the Dark Fountain, which could very well fulfill the trigger condition. Just one of those oddities I spend way too much time thinking about.

I (and I know others have been thinking in a similar direction) have personally been sitting on the theory that each chapter's secret boss will correspond to the order in which the different humans fell to the underground, but in reverse. Chapter 1's secret boss keeps you in red soul mode, which stands in for Frisk. Chapter 2's soul mode is yellow, corresponding to the last armor/weapon pair you find (not counting the knife and locket, which belonged to Chara) and the last soul interacted with in the Photoshop Flowey boss fight.
Going by that pattern, we can guess that the secret bosses will use the soul modes in this order:
    Chapter 3 - Green
    Chapter 4 - Purple
    Chapter 5 - Blue
    Chapter 6 - Orange
    Chapter 7 - Cyan
(Sidenote - I know a lot of people would have purple and green reversed on this list, since you fight Muffet after Undyne, but I'm basing this list off the order that you acquire each soul's associated items and the order in which you interact with the souls in Photoshop Flowey's fight.)
There's a lot of interesting theories you can make regarding the pre-existing soul colors, but I'm more interested in the ones we haven't seen yet. What's orange mode going to be like? Is this maybe when we'll fight Seam, whose palette prominently features orange? Or will it have something to do with Gaster, since 6 is an arc number for him?
And cyan mode is ESPECIALLY interesting - I know certain people have theorized (notably Jaru, though he brings the idea up only to dismiss it) that Kris might be a different incarnation of the fallen human with the cyan soul, since Kris's skin is cyan in the dark world and both share an affinity for knives. Is this, perhaps, when Kris and the player finally come into direct conflict? Much to think about...
p.s. Thank you for actually using the correct pronouns for Seam!

  • @cosmeticincantations7997

my theory for chapter three is that Toby will pull a fast one on us and rather than the TV being the big bad he might just be a secret boss and we might have to fight the phone or something

Rouxls confuses me. On one side hes nothing but an idiot. On the other however, just look at all the things he can do. Teleport, telephaticaly speak to you, float, go through walls. It might sound pretty funny but i really do think he will become a secret boss later on or have a serious role.

UNRELATED is an anagram of both UNDERTALE and DELTARUNE and both games feature a human child adopted by monsters

Having one of your first things learned about the game be Gaster speculation and theorizing is quite something. If you do ever play or watch either of the games, you'll probably understand why.

    • @sadostrich_3853

@@petruciosxd1374 well I already new a few things about Undertale such as sans exists, there's a flower, & it was very inspired by earthbound. I've never cared enough to interact with anything Undertale because it's just something that seems not like my kinda thing, even though I might like similar things. Maybe someday if a wizard tells me to play Undertale to break a curse or prevent a terribly prophecy or whatever I will.
