  • My first look review of the One-Bottle Hydration System and why I think it could be the next big thing in on trail hydration technology.
    Full disclosure I was provided the system at no cost but this is not a paid endorsement.

      Is your hose the same size as the current Platypus tubes? If so can I incorporate Platy mouth piece which I love?

      I just bought this. I'm new to all of this. When I bite down does the water automatically come out or do I have to suck it out like a straw? Thank you.

      @derekweiland1857 with this system you do have to suck it out like a straw, but it’s generally pretty easy.

    Just got back from a hike with the one bottle system. I will never backpack without it again. I have mine connected to the 1.4L Nalgene.

    A couple personal stories:
    About 14 years ago I used a 3L bladder in my camera backpack. I intended to slip an additional 500mL bottle for the hike in the desert (but forgot). I ended up sucking the bladder dry only half way through the hike. Fortunately, my friend had an additional bottle to give me. Bladders don't give you a warning that they are about to run out.
    I just ordered my One-Bottle and hope to have it in time for my hike out west next month. I have thought about a product like that for years, but this is the first that looks like the solution I've been looking for. As "Everyday Backpacker" said, getting that 1L bottle out of a side pocket is not convenient, and I don't stay as hydrated as I should when on the trail.

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker  Před 2 měsíci

      That is definitely a good point about not giving you a warning before it runs out. I hope the One-bottle system works well for you!

      I agree. It’s more convenient on trail, but you have the convenience of a bottle during the rest of the trip.

    Great system but update on price on Garage Grown Gear -- $28 w/TPU or $39 w/Silicone Tubing. Magnetic clip is $6. Bought the Silicon version and the clip and LOVE it!!!!! Well worth the money.

  • @panhandlejake6200
    @panhandlejake6200 Před rokem +1

    I have used a similar bottle / tube set up for several long trips for years. Highly recommend it. I stay hydrated much better. The magnetic clip did not work well for me - I just use clips with no difficulty. Like any bladder system, be sure to clean it out periodically.

    The key to making the hydration bladders usable is to use a filter adapter in the hose. It's a quick disconnect so you just pop your mouthpiece off and pop your filter on, then gravity filter right into the hose without needing to get the damn thing in and out of your pack.
    I've been using the One bottle system when I want to go ultralight though! Can't stand bottles without the hose. The bladders are nice if I need more capacity and they do have a better center of gravity. I have one with an insulated sleeve that I use when it's gonna be really hot or really cold out. And it is much more convienent to filter into them with the adapter than it is to filter into the 1L bottles. But the bottles are lighter and more convienent around camp. I've taken to bringing one smart water bottle even if I do bring bladder cause it's easier to pour into a pot and drink from in the tent at night.

      Thank you so much for your insight and suggestions! You know the truly great thing about all the gear out there is that, there are a wide variety of options out there that can work with a lot of different hikers who have different needs and comforts and that is awesome. It’s great that hydration bladders work well for you. Unfortunately, they just aren’t my cup of tea. I’ve used them in every configuration and just find myself angling towards bottles. But again, that’s just me. I agree that adaptors can help if using a gravity feed or pump style filter, but I use a squeeze style and find that they work much better with bottles. The beautiful thing is that, my system works great for me, and your system works great for you and that is just awesome in my book. So many great ways to accomplish the same goals! Thank you again for sharing!

    Thanks for the video. Have you tried putting your filter inline above the water bottle?

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker  Před 7 měsíci

      I haven’t. I have tried filters inline before with regular reservoirs but personally was not a fan due to the amount of extra work to pull the water through the filter. Then again I’m probably just lazy haha!

    These are the best of both worblwo the waer back into the bottle, but lds, not sure if On Bottle has one but for cold weather a Nalgin with an insulated sleeve does helpp keep water from freezing, so perhaps an insultate tube for these would be neat. You can always blow the water back through the tube and into the bottle, but there is always water left in the tube that could freeze.

      Nalgenes have the same mouths as insulated Hydro Flasks so my wide-mouth system works on both, plus I also have insulated tube covers in five colors!

    I think this is a brilliant idea. However, One Bottle isn't readily available in Europe. But Source has a "convertube" that's identical, and available.

  • @oldfatncranky5599
    @oldfatncranky5599 Před rokem +1

    This is not new. In the late 70's we would take the Nalgene type water bottles (not the brand), drill a hole in the lid force a plastic tube in abd use a nichrome wire to hold it to the bottom. we may not have had a fancy bite valve but a loop at the end to keep the water in the tube.

    • @Everydaybackpacker
      @Everydaybackpacker  Před rokem

      Oh cool. I figured someone out there had figured out a way to improvise something but it’s pretty cool that someone is making one now too.
