    Source one of the earliest bladder manufacturers have had a similar system for over 20 years
    The backpacks in Israel have two side pockets that take a 1 1/2 liter soda bottle
    Minimum water carry per day is 3 liters
    They have had a water bottle conversion kit on the local hiking market for many years
    Converts the bottles to bladder type

    G'day Mark, so simple, you'd have thought these would have been a thing decades ago and now they're here, totally agree, hardly worth mess'n around with DIY; ...... I do like your filter mod though and alternatively I'm sure it could be done in line on the hose too, albeit with much more mucking about.
    Btw, I believe there is no option for a Pathfinder bottle thread, which are very popular, and yes I'm biased since that's what I use, (together with a Grayl), lol; though in fairness, they do have the big two covered.
    The main issue I find with any hose system, (where the reservoir is hidden away), is I tend to habitually sip away and lose track of how much I've had, and in turn, the quantity remaining. For this reason, (on the trail), I actually like to stop and make a more conscious decision to drink. However, fishing or cycling, somewhere near civilization at least, is where a hose system shines IMO.
    If you do prefer a hose set up on a long hike, I'm think'n one could make a case to carry a bottle and a bladder with this system, i.e. with the quick connect/disconnect fitting mounted on each. Of course, depends when/where you go and for how long, but It'd be a versatile way to carry around 4.5 litres, stopping only once to change over the hose, much like an auxiliary fuel tank. And if you go with a stainless or Ti bottle, it still provides the benefits of that, i.e. over, or in, the fire. Yes there is weight to consider, especially over distance, but I reckon it's fair to say, water is up there with shelter and fire in the highest of priorities, and obviously, like food, as you consume it, your load out becomes lighter.
    Cheers Duke.

    I hace tried using the camelbak systems but could never get over the plastic taste
    This system looks very well designed 👍

      I have that same problem with the taste. I find that the Platypus brand, and other bladders made from the same material are much better. They don't have the weird taste.

    I much prefer the water bottle over a bladder. It's way more versatile. I love your shirt. It's perfect. If I could find it to fit me I would buy several.

    I was thinking a Sawyer mini between the bottle and the bite-valve would probably work in a pinch.

      Yes, that would work, although I expect the draw would be a bit slow. Thanks for commenting

    Great review. Thumbs up.
    Quick note about your splash screen: (1) you misspelled traveled (unless you're from England) and (2) read the Frost poem again ... there is no path less traveled ... it's not an anthem to rugged individualism; it's a statement about our self-delusion to justify past decisions.

    The problem I have found on my metal water bottles (steel and titanium) is that even though the threads of the swig rig outer cap fit and screw on fine, the orange insert that goes inside it doesn't fit because the metal of the mouth of the bottle is too thick. It's just slightly too big. Out of 3 metal water bottles, only one fit.

      Was not aware. I tested it on my SS Nalgene and it worked. I did not test it on my Klean Kanteen. I will now. Thanks for commenting

      @@MarkYoungBushcraft I use the Source Convertube. It has several cap sizes, Nalgene and pop bottles, but the tube that goes into the bottle slides inside the drinking tube meaning you can adjust it without having to cut it. It is pricey though. Thanks for the review of this.

    Guess I’m old school I still like the water bladder. I have 2 camelback packs that are 20+ years old. Never ever had a issue with these two. I did have a old one that the lid wasn’t sealing. That hasn’t been a problem in years.
    I like the bag with ice in my pack keeps water cool for hours. Especially if you have a insulation bag.
    I see how so could like the bottle but I carry more water. Guess it’s a matter of what your used to.

    I just stuck a hydration tube into the top of sports cap on a SmartWater bottle.
    I soaked both the top and the tube in boiling water to soften them for easier insertion.
    (It might depend on the outside diameter of the tube).
    Adding the filter is a clever addition. +1

    Don't forget Nalgene are dishwasher safe so in colder weather your water supply could be at a higher temperature when it goes in plus the sleeve should sliw down the possibility of freezing

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes, for sure. I usually start out with very hot water to extend the time before it freezes. Also saves a bit of fuel when heating for coffee. Thanks for commenting

    So a soft bladder collapses when the volume reduces. In a hard bottle there would need to be an air inlet, or a vacuum would start as you drink. Does it have some sort of one way valve, or a tiny hole?

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, it has a small check valve and came with a spare. Did I miss saying or showing that?
