One of the most brilliantly gifted, humble and extremely kind performing artists I've ever met! As the Phantom, Gaines' attacked the role in a very classic, gothic, early Hollywood (1920's to 1930's) horror movies... from his gait and gestures to his vocal characterization and enunciation, his Phantom was hypnotic, seductive (almost vampiric! )... simply genius! Bravissimi Davis Gaines! 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
He’s very kind. I got to meet him several times during his Bway run, and in Dallas for a concert, and he never refused requests for pics or questions he’s probably answered a million times.
And he's originally from Florida and has a house in the Hollywood Hills in L.A. As a highly trained musical performer Davis has practiced and provided the vocal range and ethnic affectation required by the part and as directed by Hal Prince. My absolutely most favorite Phantom, however I'm biased.
Scott Hamp being taught to sing for musical theatre you are told to sing with a more english pronunciation. especially for a show originally made in Britain
Dr. M. R. Moriolé, Ed.D I’m going to assume you meant Robert couldn’t hold a candle to this guy... because Robert Guillaume has the worst rendition I’ve heard so far of music of the night haha. This guys acting is perfect, it’s exaggerated but not to the point where it’s too much, it’s a perfectly sweet cookie. And his breath control is outstanding, he can go from fortissimo to pianissimo, from chest to head voice very smoothly. This guy is awesome
This guy...? czcams.com/video/PfSpDmKIOZ0/video.html There's hardly a comparison. If you've got a better example, please share it, but of these two, Gaines wins, hands-down.

My favorite phantom! He is just perfect! 😍😍
Absolutely beautiful.. Davis, I think you went to school with my sister, Lee
He’s a humble man ~ we met him after the performance and he was extremely gracious 💗

I saw his phantom 20 years ago in NY.
He was real phantom. Very scary.
He is phenomenal!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
0:28 The way he says "tremulous" oh my goodness.
He’s just so long I love him
I loved him in The Swan Princess!
Davis Gaines was the first Phantom I saw live. He saved the show. I couldn't stand Dale Kristien as Christine, so I focused on him.
I saw him as the phantom a few times but Dale Kristen was always the Christine.
I think he's the second favourite now.
Mine too!
It's interesting. He was on Broadway, yet he sings with a bit of an English accent
I see what you mean. I'd attribute it to his classical style of singing combined with the very classical style of the show.

They are probably all told to sing with an RP English Accent.
He sounds like a cartoon ghost lol
Too hammy and overacted. I prefer the realism and nuance in Crawford’s performance.
. . . Ugh! This dude doesn't hold a CANDLE to Robert Guillaume! Scary-ass, quivering, demonic voice/presence. #Fail

You must be on drugs. Davis was one of the greatest Phantoms of all time.
