Thankfully had the joy of seeing Davis Gaines as The Phantom third row center at The Pantages about a decade ago, he nails this great song & nobody does it quite as deeply moving...Bravo Davis!
I saw Davis as the Phantom several times and he just killed it every time. I've heard other Phantoms, but none moved me like Davis. Each performance elicited "the perfect silence" where every audience member was completely silent and captivated by his singing.
Sad these haters--Who among us doesn't try to look our best especially as we age. So what? Whatever makes you feel good and confident. When I was younger I worked in radio and he did a small charity cabaret that was broadcast on radio. The stage was small and I stood on the side. I tell you the force of his voice was incredible. I thought it would tip me over. So moving.
Like joemania2008, I am curious about the context of the performance. This is not the song one would usually think to do at a memorial service. But it is Davis Gaines' most memorable song, so perhaps the connection is friendship and the song's lyrics don't relate to the event in any way. Does anybody actually know?
He wasn't all that when he was young. He has a better toupe, a few facelifts here but he's just another singer who ruined his modest instrument singing Phantom. He gets by on his "celebrity" not his talent.
Not sure if that's a rug, but he does look rather embalmed, so perhaps that's why he's performing here. If you could call it performing. Sadly, some people just cannot retire...or get older.
Wow - what a hater. And you are famous for what? Where is your videos and what broadway productions did you star in. I think he did amazing and looks fabulous.
Modest instrument? I've heard Davis many a time live and he has anything but a modest instrument. His voice is huge. You may not like his timbre or mannerisms and that's your right but to say that he has a modest instrument shows your ignorance.

No one sings it like Davis!
The Greatest phantom of them All!

He could return to the role of the Phantom if he wanted to, his vocals are still wonderful.
He should! I mean he’s still in his 60s, but she really doesn’t matter if he can the role
My favorite Phantom

great vocals - even professionals forget the words!
Simply, WOW! So deeply moving, at multiple levels.
So lucky to have seen him live in SF.Beautiful.
I saw him I think 3 x in sf before Franc D'Ambrosio took over (also saw Davis in LA)
One of my favourite video on youtube. Beautiful gorgeous singing by Davis
Simply the best Phantom ever!
I saw him as phantom in broadway.
What a beautiful memorial for our late great owner of so much beloved Los Angeles Lakers.
that was Jerrys fav!
He should play the role of the phantom again
Amazing job... Was there a particular connection between Davis and Jerry? Just wondering why this song was specifically used?

Can't say that I do
Seems he forgot more than a few lyrics and started over? :( Hoping it was only due to the nature of the circumstances...
Yikes
He overexaggerates way too much and here he forgot his lines as well.
Nobody should be able to sing well!!!
