I saw an OH-58A taking off at an airshow. Neat chopper.
I'm not sure the AI Hover is supposed to be that absolute perfect. It's a decent module. Once I got the mouse wheel MMS dialed in, I was happy. It moved way too fast and was uncontrollable until I slowed it way down. Now it's a pleasure to use. I think half the battle with any DCS module is setting up the controls.
How did you manage to slow it down buddy?

What a joy to fly this bird in VR! This thing was made for VR. Now I wait a year for my Vpforce Rhino. 😂 Current using the next best thing IMO, dead-stick config with dry clutches. I have the Virpil CM3 base, Mongoose T-50CM2 stick (Hawk grip) and the Virpil collective. Now I just need more darn TIME, lol
pro tip....map that damn ack toggle switch to a joystick button LOL. Got mine mappped to the brake lever /switch on the Virpil Mongoose. Sooo easy to use!
Between this and the new Phantom I haven't flown another module since I got them. And please keep in mind that this is the first release version. Just like the Gazelle it will have it's flight model tweaked and sounds improved. I saw an article about Polychop teaming up with the sound engineering firm Echo 19. That's been the main knock on the Kiowa is that the sounds are a little...flat. These guys are like the top of the food chain when dealing with dynamic sound effects and realism. And the Phantom is just so much fun. Makes you really appreciate having a CCIP for bomb delivery like the Viper and Hornet. Using weapons like the Walleye and MCLOS Bullpup are real fun. And laying down 24 Mk 82 Snakeyes over a target can't get any better. Air to air is also challenging. The Sparrow is a piece of shit compared to the AMRAAM. But, that's what the pilots of the day had to suffer with, so it's enlightening to stand in their shoes and experience it for ourselves. Colonel Robin Olds would have it no other way
I got to control the cyclic on the two bladed Army OH-58, and try to hover it. There was nothing stable about it. If you let go of the stick, it would flop over and the aircraft would follow it... There was no such thing as trim. It felt like holding a pencil with the tip on a table.
That’s pretty much any helicopter.
Just wait for an air bag deployment. Happened to me in VR and jumped back.

@@CWLemoine happened the other day. I let the AI take off unplanned so said screw it just have it to where I was heading since was few a few miles. Well he was not climbing fast enough and I was going to take over. By the time I checked my collective level, I hit the disengage button I have mapped and the helo slammed down to the ground. Nothing broke from what I could tell but full bag deployment and just slid to a stop.
I've struggled with collective control.
Leave no man behind unless he's a kiowa pilot.

kiowa is one of the easiest helos to fly in dcs , so easy that IMO becomes a bit boring 🤣
