I was always that scout in the group that had twice as mush as they needed, mostly knives, gadgets, etc. I'm still that way today, love my maxpedition jumbo. I keep mine a little empty so I can throw in extras when I need them and to save weight in my day to day carry.

This is a great kit. Thank you for sharing. I would suggest adding a couple things. First I would add 2 or 3 energy gels. They take no space but are full of energy, caffeine and salts to help you out in a stressed out/exhausted situation. You can buy those at any outdoor sports shops. I would also add 1 or 2 packs of emergency drinking water that comes in 125ml pouches. They are light, small and last years so you dont have to worry about replacing them. In an emergency you'll be glad to have a clean source of water to keep you alive for an extra one or two days. I would recommend replacing the plastic drum liner with a 5'x7' MEST ultralightweight tarp from BCUSA. It only weights 6 ounces and takes up probably less bulk than the trash bag but it can be your shelter, rain cover, hammock or blanket. If you wanted to have the trash bag instead, I would recommend not using the black colored bag but instead white or orange. If you are changing a tire in the rain, you want to be seen by other drivers. It'll also be better for signalling in emergencies.

I use those cheap orange waterproof match tubes, remove the flint from the bottom, and they hold 2 CR123 batteries perfectly with a folded piece of cardboard in between them from the packaging to keep them separated. Works like a charm. Great vid!!

Good kit! I might suggest adding a Clif bar or two. I keep a one in my EDC kit and rotate it out periodically. They're compact, inexpensive, come in a variety of flavors (including some infused with caffeine!), and better for you than a candy bar, plus they won't melt all over the inside of the wrapper. Tasty, too!

A nice option for every day carry notepads are the 3“ x 5“ notebooks from Walmart
24 of them are something like $18 which would last a couple of years
and if you jump onto Amazon, you can get the leather cover for $11

I have a telescoping pen fishing pole and reel in my "belt pack", as I call it. As well as hooks, sinkers, a bobber, and a few different lures. But, finding bait near the fishing location is an option as well. With that in mind, I keep some fishing line, a hook, and a needle in a pill bottle in my pocket as well, along with a Streamlight Microstream flashlight, Leatherman PS multitool, and my keys, which have a Phillips screwdriver, 1 inch of a stainless steel ruler, a cuff key, mini picks and a stainless cross. SNZG15 Seiko 5 Sports automatic watch on my wrist with the urban camo Zulu band. My Tighe 1090 blade and a carbon steel old timer both in my watch pocket. Flat blade(made from a stainless steel ruler) in my wallet, along with two bars, 1 ounce, 10 grains, silver. Camo bandanna in my back pocket(Homemade-twice the length of a normal bandanna). I also wear leather boots with full leather gussets that go all the way up to the top of the tongue, mink oiled when needed, and clean them regularly by hand. I also have a brain I carry in my hard head, have to rattle it every now and then, but it works.
Thanks for the video, and God bless us all, with a better understanding of Him. ;)

My kids call it my purse, but I have been traveling with a "possible" bag for 25 years. Only about 10 years ago did a friend introduce me to that term. The mountain men of the Wild West had a bag of gear that never left their side, which made it "possible" to survive almost any calamity that might befall you. I find it to be a great supplement to your self reliance capabilities. Your video really helped me with my system though. I realized that mine needed a rebuild/reboot and that many of my systems were beyond their shelf life. Plus you had several items I had not ever considered. They will be in there now! My first new purchase is going to be a bible. And perhaps a Maxpedition bag.....

Working in IT, I always have my backpack with me as I keep my laptop in it. I find that it's important to keep a stash of my daily meds in my backpack. 3 days worth of prescriptions is handy, as I've gotten out the door in the morning, half way to work and realized I forgot to take my meds that morning. Also, being allergic to bee stings, I keep my epi-pen in my pack as well.

I've been following your evolutions on EDC and share your enthusiasm for Maxpedition. I have an early Fatboy that doesn't have the carry handle, and that was a problem as an EDC bag. When I was commuting to work, I carried a Falcon II, which I still love and is my Go Bag for short term emergencies, and usually parked by my back door. (Matter of fact, I have a second one that I carry in my car equipped specifically for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) call-outs.) My Fatboy is repurposed now (based on one of your other vids) as my "Litany Bag" (for when "things go bump in the night/Good Lord deliver us"). It stays by my bed and can be slung over my shoulder whatever I'm wearing. Now that I'm retired, after a couple of trials that didn't work out, I have the Maxpedition Noatak. It has a carry handle, slings easily, holds a lot of gear without looking overstuffed. Keep on inspiring!

Here's SOME of what I tote in my EDC bag: Quart steel jug with nesting cup, fire tinder and ferro rod, lighter, straw-type water filter, water purification tabs, medium and small knives, Leatherman, sharpening rod, paracord, bandana, two flashlights, compass, scissors, ibuprofen and allergy tabs, hand sanitizer, fork and spoon, pen and Sharpie, crescent wrench and screwdriver with bits, Jet-scream whistle, and various other stuff. Need to add something for cover, and maybe some small binoculars, but my bag is already pretty heavy! I've used a Victorinox-branded backpack for years, and it's held up really well.

Hey sootch i watch all of your videos and i think that there great, good solid advice, and i know i was raised by a survivalist, prepper black ops special forces dad who in the last 8 years of his 20 in the usmc trained navy seals, before becoming a homicide detective, i was trained in the army also and became an airborne ranger. 11b1v, i also spend most of my time these days in the woods, deep in the woods , and what most people think of survival, i find relaxing and meditating, i also love my gear, i am a big outdoor bushman and ive put 1000s maybe 10s of thousands into my gear, aafter feild testing and alot of research, ide like to think i at least have an idea of what good gear is, i know maxpedition very well i love most of there sgtuff anad own a ton of pouches and storage bags from maxpedition, im a huge fan and i hate to say this but I have to tell you that you should really check out vanquest gear, there very well thought out and very well made, it would be worth your time to check out, i recently got a vanquest trident 20 back ( and a pack of speed clips and a edc husky maximizer. And the large medical pouch, just for an edc bag, otherwise i use one of 4 different bags when i go out depending on the timeframe in which im going out from largest to smallest, my eberlestock halftrack for longer trips, my rush 5.11 72, then to my daypacks i have a camelbak hawg 100oz antidote, for day hikes and my tasmanian tiger tt trooper lite for short treks, and i have a ton of gear riflee handguns ect that i interchange depending on the situation, but they all have a baseline of gear i think nessesity for survival if need be, i can't think of everything but i like to give myself as many options as possible, anyway please check out vanquest trident 20 backpack, and gear its well worth the money and time. There in my opinion one of the best out there.

You forgot your pocket reference book! I have a shoulder sling satchel that I have for EDC and the main compartment zipper is starting to fail. Had it for 5 years and can't find the same one but after seeing that I carry the same items the bag you are showing is better. There is a few things you had in the bag that I should get too. My friends made fun of me carrying a bag saying it was my purse. But that quickly changed when it was my satchel that came to their rescue. A good boy scout is always prepared.

Just a friendly suggestions for those who carry it every day. Remove redundant items. Remember the basics of survival and EDC. A way to purify water, food, a way to start a fire, and a knife should be on your person, but when it comes to knives...You can never have to many, so a backup won't hurt, and everything else needed for your daily lives. Keep up the videos Sootch.

Loved this video! Thanks. The only change I would consider is to make your trash bag clear so that it can also help you out with water procurement by making a still. If you're going to pack it you might as well get another use out of it.

Maybe add a spare bic lighter attached to paracord connected to a roll of chapstick with a cotton ball & petroleum jelly in the cap and then add gorilla or gaffers tape around each. Adding a small zip tie around the button of the bic lighter prevents your lighter from losing its fuel and can be removed and replaced once zipped, clipping the extra length makes it a little sharp though can be filed to prevent cuts. Plus the adhesive sticker is also flammable, once you have a empty lighter if the wheel is removed slowly the springs can be made into a snare & fishing hook and the childproof metal can be removed and can also be made into a fishing hook.

I have 2 of the AR500 Armor Tactical EPIK and got the SOF tourniquit for one of them. These are great kits. Really everything that I think that I would need in one of types of kits. Also, they seem to be the most reasonably priced armor out there if you are looking to get some for a SHTF moment.

Love your videos, appreciate the information. Developing an edc bag now. I’m nurse practitioner and thinking about a basic medical kit. An old school oral thermometer might be a good idea with our current events. What do you think?

Well done sir. Solid advice and a nice bit of humor at the end! Long live the Republic. It is a shame how few understand that we are a republic.

Hey, great video. I'm pretty sure you are the one that convinced me to get my Fat boy over a year ago and it was one of the first videos I saw of yours. I'd like to make a suggestion, if I may. I carry a mag with a mag pouch in the pocket that you carry your cord in. That way, I've always got a way to throw it on my belt.
