I remember when dlo had a pretty sub par start to his career
He was a mediocre point guard, and he was hated with the whole Nick Young situation
D'Angelo has everything that Point Guard needs, vision, handle, determination, great shoot and he can change the game in clutch moments.
Two things he lacks that a great PG needs: Speed and Athleticism. It's why he's a poor defender.

Dlo's defense is also underrated - Dlo is a lot more effective as a defender with Dinwiddie at the other guard spot (over Austin Reaves). Reaves is the real defensive weak link.
I wish Reaves would quit proving to be such a great offensive threat, giving Lakers a good reason to drop him.
His buckets in crucial minutes a so useful, arguably the clutchest shooter on the team.

Dlo by all means has improved defensively, he actually has a better defense rating than Dejounte ATM. Issue is more so having Dlo have the primary offensive role in facilitating instead of Lebron. We’ve seen amazing games when that’s been the case and when he’s been able to play the aggressive role. HOWEVER, the lakers do need an actual center to even have a chance against denver. Especially when they’ve had continued struggles with strong interior offense like the kings

Hardcore Lakers fan here… AM Hoops is SPOT ON with his analysis here: DLo’s true test as a player is playing well against Nuggets in the heat of the playoffs. If he can play average defense while still getting 18-20ppg a night against playoff Nuggets, then he will have finally reached his highest potential and the Lakers can actually win. If not, then the Lakers lose, simple as that.
Also, spot on with the Trae Young analysis - no way in hell should the Lakers trade multiple 1sts and Reaves for a small PG who will be another defensive liability in the playoffs AND doesn’t know how to play off-ball. Go for 6’7 multi-positional shooters instead of Trae!

You have to use context. The 10th and the 4th seed are separated by 7 games. But what you’re forgetting before the Allstar break the lakers went on a losing streak. Since the Allstar break yes they’ve been firing but the teams who were ahead of us also are too. No matter how much you win. Can’t pass other teams if they’re not losing either. Along with injuries to our key defenders.
If I’m an opposing coach my game plan is to keep D Lo, Prince, & Huichmuira under 40 points collectively. Can’t let D Lo get hot.

The Lakers need 'leadership' on a team that has LeBron and AD and want perimeter defense but et Alex Caruso walk and went with D-Lo and Reeves, both of whom make more money, instead? D-Lo has played well this season and if you can't win with him as your 4th best guy, the problem isn't with him.
D-Lo showed up BIG TIME last year vs the dubs. You don't have to do him dirty like that. He carried many stretches and won them huge ass games to help them make the WCF. Denver outplayed everyone and the Lakers collapsed with Bron limping around. Acting like it's his fault cuz Denver outclassed the whole team makes no sense.
He only collapsed last year in the wcf against the nuggets. LeBron is much to blame for costing the lakers the first two games. That dunk he tried to make fancy cost them game 2 alone.

NO, we do NOT need depth etc. as weird as it sounds, we need someone thats gonna take over for when bron leaves and AD eventually starts getting hurt frequently again, having a Young PG like Trae will atleast give us SOMETHING for when bron dips to play with bronny. We blow our load on lesser players and fill out the team and we end up with AD and a bunch of middle side stars what do we do then? at that point we might as well start rebuilding, So either we make a big splash with Trae or Dmitch or we just wave the white flag let bron walk to play with bronny and just start rebuilding. As much as I like lebron and what hes done for us he is 40 and clearly is ready for the next chapter in his life I think we just move on from him.
All of this conversation is valid only if Lakers make it to playoffs. There is too much confidence in a 9th-position team.
