    1st, I would like to say that it was an amazing video, super easy to follow and very well explained.
    2nd, it's a question.
    I have very similar light, same brand, just different model. My question is, my ebike it's a Trance X E+2 Pro 2021, do you know if I have to do the diagnosis to enable the light from the controller? Cos when I turn on the ebike, the light dot on the controller is always on, but I can turn it off too, I would love to do that set up without the need to make a diagnosis. The controller is a giant and motor Yamaha.
    Thanks. Awesome video

    The reasopn you have a barrel connector on the Magicshine light is to enable it to be fitted to a multitude of diferent motor units. Magicshine actually supply the cables which enable you to simply plug the light into the socket on the motor unit. Your light is then controlled via the head unit. No need to break your wiring unit (and waranty). Only issue I found is that the Bosch head unit has to be enabled for your light by a bosch dealer, but then they can also upgrade your software while they are at it.

    Hi! What an amazing channel! I've a Decathlon E stilus 29 which has a Bosch Performance Line 65Nm (3rd gen). On the engine there are 5 ports, 3 of those are occupied by various connections. But two are unused, and should be the front and the rear light (as i found on the net). My question is: in your video those 2 ports are still free or there is a difference from my engine? If i would install the same light you used i can find a cable under the battery or i will not find anything cause the two lights port are empty? Thanks a lot!

    the mj906s ebike light has only 2800lumens max. And on bosch systems if you give the maximum output of 18 watt you will get around 1800lm from that light(which is plenty). Giving the light from diagnostic tool only 6 watts you will get a maximum of probably 600lm.

    • @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic
      @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic  Před rokem

      Hi Craig, sorry to hear your having trouble, the 550 code is related to the light or the load output. in the diagnostics, having said that there are 26 codes associated to that codes, for example 550023 is Unknown consumer load detected
      ⇒ motor support is switched off. It is fairly easy for a bosch dealer with the right software to fix.

I did get ahold of Magicshine in China and they think the light is in the battery mode, not ebike mode. They've told me to hold the power button down for 8 secs until it flashes, then it'll be in ebike mode. I'm going back to dealer to have them erase the error code and see if that works. • @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic
      @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic  Před 2 lety

      Hi, Thanks for watching, error 550 can mean faults on electrical systems, it might not be related to your light , when you disconnect the light do you still get the error? Errors can be complicated, if you can get it to for bike shop for a diagnostic check so bosch can take a look if it continues.

    • @macoveialex6823
      @macoveialex6823 Před 2 lety

      @@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic Hi. I manage to do it. The error is because the light went in the bike mode after I hold the bottom over 8 sec by mistake trying to close the light when was working. What I had to do is to disconnect the light from my bike, plug it in to a normal battery and hold the bottom for 8 sec to change it back to ebike mode.

  • @exgenica
    @exgenica Před 2 lety

    Good thing I skipped ahead to find out one MUST have the ability to modify the software to do this. I just used the display control unit using the wires from the original small/cheap/crummy light to control a MOSFET which then connects to the ebike battery to power the 18W/1200 Lumen light through the MOSFET.
    The light itself could handle from 12VDC to 80VDC while outputting the same brightness.
    Result: No programming and dirt simple hardware mod. Of course, alternatively I could also have just wired the new light directly to the battery with a fuse and manual SPST switch mounted to the handlebar.
    It really amazes me that manufacturers provide a cheap, barely visible $5 headlight on $1000 ebikes.

  • @TimeLapseMat
    @TimeLapseMat Před 6 dny

    For anyone trying this, I've just set up an MJ 906S and it seems if you try and crank it to max brightness, the bike will detect too much draw and will error code. To fix, you need to reset the light to a lower setting using an another supply, i didn't wait to see if the light loses memory over time.
    So if you haven't bought your light yet, you might as well stick to 2000 lumens with the Bosch. And now what I'm thinking of doing is running a 2nd 2000 lumen on the front, using the rear supply. So a 2 light setup. Anyone tried this?

    Is it possible to use such a light without connecting it to a drive unit, and instead connect it to a separate 12V battery? Or does the drive unit use some kind of stupid CAN signal to turn on the light? The reason I'm asking is that I would want to use such a light on a regular bike, not an ebike.

      @@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic Thanks, for responding! Sure, I could. But I'm sick and tired of fiddling with 27 different batteries on a bike. That's why I'm planning on installing both front and rear light, and power them from a common battery. Granted, not this specific front light, but something like that. That's why I was asking, because I don't want to buy an expensive light, and not be able to use it, because it needs some kind of CAN signal, or something. Also, since I've mentioned a common battery - I'm not aware of any light sets that use a common battery, and certainly none that are StVZO compliant (or at least "compliant adjecent 🤣), which is what I'm aiming for. I want to have proper road lights, with cut off beam, and I'll even try to get brake lights working, if I can. For example - I've seen that Supernova lights can be wired to Magura MT5e brake levers, but I'll try to do it without replacing the brakes. Maybe the magnet sensors that people use with ebike conversions could work. I'm not sure yet.
