When I saw the thumbnail, I took a good twenty minutes to figure out how the avatar cycle would function to get Azula to be the avatar. And I think I came up with a pretty likely scenario, more likely than this video’s backstory. First, Aang gets frozen. However, cryogenic technology just isn’t there yet so that iceberg is only going to preserve him for so long before he freezes/starves/suffocates to death. Let’s say about 20 years. We know the next avatar is born in the southern water tribe because of Korra, and we just so happen to have the perfect candidate for a powerful water bender born at this time, Hama, the blood bender. She’s of course not going to know she’s the avatar until she accidentally goes into the avatar state during a fire nation raid, but it doesn’t change everything. The fire nation is going to keep whittling the southern tribe down until she’s the only one left, and then she gets captured too. Like Zhao told Aang, they won’t kill her because then she’d reincarnate, so they just hold her prisoner like in the original until she invents blood bending, which she can probably do without a full moon because she’s the avatar. She almost escapes, but security guarding the avatar is tight. Fire lord Azulon figures that her terrifying blood bending powers are more trouble than their worth and decides to kill her before she can teach anyone else the technique. Thinking the war will be over before the next avatar is old enough to become a problem. Next we need a powerful earth bender born around this time. And we have another perfect candidate: The Boulder is now the avatar. News of the avatar’s death spreads like wildfire and the earth kingdom is determined to do things right this time. As King Boomy is not only the greatest earth bender in the world (and in his prime) but also an old friend of Avatar Aang, he becomes the Boulder’s earth bending master. After mastering earth bending the Boulder has a problem, there’s no one to teach him fire bending or air bending. (Iroh and JongJong are still loyal to the fire nation.) He travels around trying to fulfill his avatar duties, but he’s eventually killed as well. Just in time for Azula to be born. As she’s undoubtedly the most powerful fire bender born around this time, and the great granddaughter of Roku, she’s obviously going to become the avatar. And then it’s the end of the world from there.

I think it would make more sense if they figured out she was the avatar when her grandfather was still alive. He would have felt threatened and would ask ozai to kill her. Ursa would do her thing and get banished and then, with the positive influence gone, Azula would start getting corrupted by ozai (who of course will lie about it trying to win her over because he can’t stand to kill his most powerful offspring) feels more in touch with Azula herself and would change it so it’s a bit of a more compact backstory
Also, I don’t feel like combustion man would even be very well known by the royal family. The way Zuko talked to him he seemed pretty well hidden and underground
it would also be able to give Azula the redemption arc zuko had, giving zuko another role in the story. Making it stand out even more from the original show and therefore making it even more unique. Also love the concept and execution this is just my idea you know
This reminds me of that female Fire Avatar a fully cycle before Szeto: it looks like she was possibly the crowned Fire Princess as well, so Azula could be similar to that!
I don’t think azula would be bad or atleast as bad as she was in canon cause the avatar spirit makes the avatar a necessarily a good person raava is the spirit of light of course so azula would be more in the light than dark and plus if she would want to her past lives she needs to do good
Yeah, but is the same guy who did not gain any territory by himself, or at least was not showed. Sozin destroy the Airnomads, and Azulón probably took the earth villages, Iroh tried to take over Ba Sin Se but failed, but Ozai?. And unlike him, his daughter conquered BaSinSe with only two other fire nation citizens, and almost killed the Avatar.
ur right. but i don't think ozai would do it, especially considering he raised azula to value power. i think he'd be worried that azula would try to overthrow him once she leaned she was more powerful
2 points on Azula's personality. The first is that Raava hasn't seemed to really affect the personalities of the avatars. Some become complacent, others almost tyrannical while others are peaceful. Maybe Raava selects avatars that at least aren't initially evil, but I don't believe she can affect their personalities altogether. The second is that changing it kinda goes against the point of the what if, since she's effectively a different person.

Maybe she could’ve got the good avatar spirit in Azula. And yet becomes the same Azula from the show canon. And there’s the bad avatar spirit within a poor fire nation street child and how hungry this person was. At least this person initially steals and hurts others to survive. But decides to travel the world and get a different perspective on humanity. And decides to try to help others. And even uplifting others. Azula however with the good avatar spirit in her is corrupted. The other person is corrupted as well. But it’s natural spirit ways reverts this person to do evil. But resists the urge to do so. Instead tries to hurt subtly. Even steal wisely.
This is pretty much head canon but I think that raava makes the person do what they think is good (someone like ozai would continue doing what they do because they think that it’s good) rather than a totally polar “this good that bad” mentality.
This video sort of highlights why I dislike the Avatar being retconned into a human/rug hybrid from originally having the conceived as the Descended spirit of the Earth. Meaning, originally, Aang is Roku who is Kyoshi and so on, reincarnated, they are the same person with nature being a constant and nurture being the variable. But... Since the writers, i.e. Bryke could square this equation, they just invented a flying carpet and threw the theme of reincarnation out the window because they couldn't write Aang as a female water bender.
I sense a prison break in the near future. Obviously Mai and ty lee will join her to be team avatar but what about the original guys? We have Mai, ty lee, iroh, and zuko but what about toph and katara and sokka? Are we still gonna bump into them?
They go on their journey to find the water bending tribe and either pull a slick move by going south to fool the fire nation or somebody screwed up navigation and they end up in the southern water tribe. They conveniently meet Katara and Sokka and manage to convince her to help Azula learn water bending (she’s the only person they got) by saving their tribe from another fire nation raid. That or at least give them shelter and the two decide to help them on their journey to the north tribe. On their travels they get into the same situation with Toph but are more verbally persuasive in getting her help. Thus, the group has been brought back into the story. Katara falls in love with Zuko during the whole bit (sorry aang) and the gang runs into some of the same problems the originals had during the OG story, except Ozai is hunting them down. That or Zuko is still on the bad side (sorry Katara) and is the one chasing after them.
Actually it would be very simple: -"balance" would be restored by fire nation taking over the world with an avatar on their side and ending all wars due to humanity being united under one flag. -she will at some point claim the throne and continue her father s legacy Long story short it would be a short and boring plot..

This version of Azula is actually cool. I'm completely for her killing Ozai and taking over Fire Nation as is her rightful place.
