  • Welcome to Chernarus, a beautiful former Soviet block country. As an unknown virus rages through the countryside and villages of South Eastern Chernarus, the Chernarus Defence Force is called in to begin an orderly evacuation of the coastal city of Chernogorsk. Do they have what it takes to halt the spreading virus and protect the population?
    All people, vehicles and animals in this movie where controlled by computer AI. Scenes set up using Arma 2 Mission Editor (with additional scripting).

    - Why did the tanks shoot at each other?
    The first one we see in the city center fights it's way to the zombie ridden checkpoint and destroys it as it attempts to flee the chaos (soldiers are also engaging each other). It then destroys another Tank approaching the checkpoint, before being destroyed by another tank which was also approaching.
    - Why are the couple on the mountain?
    It's up to your imagination why they are up there. Perhaps the fled a nearby village which had been over run prior to Chernogorsk being infected, or perhaps they were just having a nice hill walking experience.
    - Why are there US soldiers among the infected?
    I was limited in the mod's assets I could use.
    - Why didn't the nuke blind the couple on the mountain?
    We don't actually see where they are looking at the point of detonation. They could have looked away until the flash was dull enough to look at.
    - Why did the snipers and mi-24 not engage the zombies?
    I originally planned for another scene involing the mi-24 but didn't go ahead with it. The snipers could have been unsure about the rules of engagement or perhaps didn't identify them as zombies. They would be forced to take off if there was a threat of being over run by civilians attempting to board as they flee.
    - Why was there a Western style evacuation in an Eastern block country?
    I tried to losely base the evauation on footage of evacuation of Chernobyl/Pripyat, which was in the USSR. However, Chernarus is aligned to the West and is a member of NATO in Arma 2 so it may have adopted many Western methods.
    - Did you use music that's also been used by famous CZcamsrs?
    Yes. The music in this was created by Kevin McLeod and he's a very popular royalty free music creator. See the music credits for more info.

    The AI soldiers walking and driving right up to like within 10 meters of the zombies without firing a single shot yet kinda ruined it for me but I can appreciate the amount of effort and patience that went into this. Like you have to some kind of god to be so tolerant with the Arma 2 engine to make a movie with it. Arma is quite a clunky game to work with like that. Props for effort.

As someone who has spent countless hours in the past attempting to make quite a few machnimas (most of which I abandoned due to technical/engine limitations), It's always comforting to see people recognise the fact that there are many limitations to deal with in game engines like these.       Aiden Schmidt I'm actually planning on making a new video soon to show the ways you can create this kind of video/machinima. I'll be using the Arma 3 editor which still uses pretty much the same methods as the Arma 2 editor. It won't be a step by step tutorial but it will cover the cinematic camera, unit animations and just some messing about too (I'll include scripts etc in the description for that video). I hope this will be of interest to you :)

    This gives a good amount of day z lore. For the city. It’s just when you go into it and Dayz it’s not destroyed like this this is one of the best player made movies I’ve ever watched 10/10 glory to chernarus

    I make machinimas without dioluage and find it quite a challenge to make them any good. But this video was just amazing, I got a huge new look at the story of Chernaus and machinima making tips. Overall, a great video. Most likely the best machinima I have ever seen.

    Its a very good film. But one thing you should better out is: The military wouldn't react like this: Making a meeting in the center of the town, taking uncovered positions not barricading the meetup areas properly... And last but not least: How the hell did the tankdrivers manage to shoot each other?! But anyways, its a very good film, its very ecxiting and it touches hearts and feeling :-)

      Руслан Марченко The first tank to engage was the same tank we first see in the city center. After the outbreak It was attempting to escape the army containment which is why it destroyed the roadblock/checkpoint and one of the tanks guarding it before it was destroyed itself

    that was more of an Eastern style evacuation in my opinion if it was Western the evacuation would have been carried out more likely then not by air units unless the area around it is not available at which point transport trucks would be used

      Joseph Stassup Chernarus had it's cold look while I was capturing too. I just increased the contrast and brightness then made adjustments to the color balance at various parts during editing. I did this to give it a nicer and more cinematic look.

    Офигенно снято. Меня вот че интересует, режиссер снял на высшем уровне, но... почему нельзя сделать так, чтобы бойцы не ложились при виде противника, так глупо смотрится. Солдаты валят зомби и дохнут, да я понимаю - закон жанра, но почему нельзя просто выкатить танки и расх*ярить всё к чертям, потери нулевыми будут?!

      Mack Obrisky The civilians and soldiers can be animated by using playMove or switchMove scripts in the INIT fields of their way points and/or triggers. The animations are built in to the game engine and a list of them can be found here: community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA2:_Moves . The strafing runs are done by adding triggers that spawn bombs just above the ground when the aircraft reaches those triggers (a script commonly used for IEDs).
      I've added some script examples in the description of one of my other videos if they're of any use: czcams.com/video/ZmWcoYDGAIA/video.html , If it's not helpful, Google is the best place to find scripts and tutorials for this.

      I've wanted to create a follow up to this but I'm afraid it's not looking likely. I've been unable to get my Arma 2 setup to work like it did at the time I created this (as I've since switched to Steam). I'd use Arma 3 in an instant, but even with mods it's too limited in it's variety of civilians (especially lack of females) and other assets compared to Arma 2.
