    Also, according to the USDA they have 3 recommendations on thawing meat one of them is to put it water. They don’t recommend leaving it out on a counter because bacteria can get on it .

    @rhijulbec1 Před 6 lety +1

    Well that susses it! I'll definitely use the water method. I have a cast iron defroster that I use but, like yours, it's not a lot better than leaving it on the counter.
    If, like me, you often forget to put frozen meat in the fridge to thaw 2 or 3 days ahead, the water method sounds perfect.
    Jack! You've done it again. 👍👌👊 taught me something new~and I've been cooking for 50, yes 50, years!

    • @shampoohorn
      @shampoohorn Před 6 lety +1

      rhijulbec1 Do not use any of these methods unless you like living on the edge with food poisoning. Only two ways you should thaw out frozen meat: 1. In a ziplock baggie (or a sealed container or wrapping) while under cold running water (throw it in a pot, have the cold water running somewhat slowly. It'll defrost fast enough and is safe). Or 2. Defrost in your fridge.
      Gonna move on from this topic but I seriously hope Jack does another video because I'd hate to think that anyone walked away from this video thinking they learned something all the while they got their loved ones sick from bad food prep.

      EclecticNostalgia yes. This defrosting method is terrible. Meat left out on the counter (or above 40f) for more than 2 hours (which those would have definitely taken) is not good. Your best bet is to plan ahead and defrost overnight in the fridge.

    • @Beezy089
      @Beezy089 Před 6 lety

      yanney incorrect. You can leave frozen meat out on the counter. Only when it is thawed you dont want to leave it out for more than 30 to 40 minutes.

    • @yanney4667
      @yanney4667 Před 6 lety +1

      read the USDA website. "Perishable foods should never be thawed on the counter, or in hot water and must not be left at room temperature for more than two hours."
      do what you want with your food, just be aware you're introducing a lot of bacteria. just because the center of a steak is still frozen doesnt mean every piece is below 32 degrees. the exterior is rising to room temperature and harboring bacteria.
