    Russia vs Japan match, the most difficult matchup for the Russians!
    Most Russian aircraft only have the speed advantage over the Japanese, and that's difficult and time consuming to use to your advantage when you're alone. However, when you have teammates who know what they are doing, speed becomes a powerful trait especially against the slow Japanese.
    Yak9U is a great 4.3 BR fighter that often gets overlooked (including me). It has the essentially the same performance as the Yak9P which is a decent fighter at 5.0 BR, with only the armament that differs. It's a pretty good deal for the BR.
    Yak9U is probably the best Russian aircraft to counter Japan at this tier due to its speed and climb and low and medium altitude.

    This kind of play, and teamplay, not VERY typical of what is going on in Soviet teams around this BR these days! :-) Japanese teams also seems to be good players in general, so usually it is a slaughter in their favour in my experience. 6 minutes into the game and I am the only one at altitude, that is pretty usual. Well done, as allways; both entertaining and educational. Love this plane by the way, nice to see it come to such good use.

      The thing with turnfighters is : you don't really need to be a good player to be efficient, you "only" need to be good (take the good decisions etc.) when your enemy is a good pilot (in term of energy fighting) which is more rare.
      The "skill level" is higher if you want to do good in a Bn'Z type of plane because you absolutely need discipline (+energy efficiency etc.) and a "good enough" wingman or team.

    • @georgegeorge9361

    • @StealthySparky
      @StealthySparky Před 5 lety

      @@georgegeorge9361 No plane can work if you are outnumbered and your opponents know what they're doing.
      Perfect planes don't exist. Your plane will always have strength and weaknesses (except if your plane is OP ^^).
      Boom n' Zoomers can run away but they cannot win by running away so you just need to keep your energy up to stay a threat to them.
      Turn-fighters are not the fastest and thus have difficulties to run away so you really need to be vigilant about that (like in any plane you need situational awareness). If you're in trouble you won't escape.
      But It just means that you need to take the initiative and keep it, and that's not hard to do with "Spacefires" that climb like crazy (that Power/mass ratio). Also with markers you can easily choose your fights.
      You can also easily have the energy advantage over other kind of planes from the start and, unlike you, you know they are harmless without that.
      Of course it's always better to be in an aircraft that is faster than your opponent's but don't forget that in a turn-fighter defensive flying is easier.
      What I meant is : if you're in a turn-fighter you don't need to have good knowledge of energy fighting to have decent results, because you can always count on your plane to survive (at least for some time). In a Boom n' Zoomer you will have a hard time if you don't have decent knowledge of energy fighting because one mistake and you're outright dead (your plane won't save you without speed). Also don't forget that you're not forbidden to play as a team in turn-fighters ^^
      I often have carried my team at 1 vs 3 in Spitfires ... and it was because my opponents did not play as a team. With just that they would have won because I wouldn't have been able to take all of them at the same time. In a Boom n' Zoomer it would have been way worse because just doing 1vs1 would have needed a proper set up.
      As you can see in this video, it's slow to start but when it gets going it's a snowball (and this was with Yaks which are pretty maneuverable).
      However, if your opponent put pressure on you right from the beginning you cannot start anything without a good teammate.
      Boom n' Zoomer really shine with teamwork because being faster they can more easily be at the right place at the right time (to help a teammate etc.).
      My only issue with turn-fighters is that you need a pilot/crew with good G tolerance at high tier to be able to play (so if you're like me with a lvl 18 pilot good luck ^^).

    I'm happy that you finally flew yak9u.I was really surprised that YAK9U, 9P and 9UT have basically the same performace, while 9U is lighter and have 100 oct fuel upgrade. That makes YAK9U the best USSR fighter performance wise for it's Br.
    I think you wrote La7 as La9 at 6:35 (EDIT: yup, i saw in comments, nevermind then). La9 climbs as good as YAK 9U at high alt, and is as fast or a bit faster depending on altitude, while LA7 climbs slower, and is slower at high alt compared to Yak 9U.

    Fly out the F4U-1A soon! I like to think of it as a Yak for more experienced players. The Yaks were great when I was starting out, since they were a jack-of-all-trades which could energy fight well and turnfight well. The F4U-1A is my new jack-of-all-trades: it can energy fight nicely, BnZ nicely, defensive fly well, and even turnfight pretty competitively if I use flaps, throttle, and energy correctly. The only plane that is difficult to face in it is a He 100 flown by an experienced pilot. 109's? Out-dive them or out-turn them. Yaks? Easily out-speed them. La's? Slowly out-speed them, but you can even stall-fight them at low altitude because your flaps are that awesome. Spitfires? Easily out-speed them at low altitude, or rope-a-dope them at high altitude. 190's? BnZ on them or turnfight them - anything works as long as they are not on your six. Zeros? Easily out-speed them. Chaikas? Out-speed them. Ki 43's? Out-speed them. Ki 44's? Out-speed them or stall fight them - their flaps are not great at all. Italian C-20_'s? Um, these are kind of hard but just use flaps and throttle. Typhoons? They're pretty fast but their roll rate locks up horribly so they're easy to reverse. Did I miss anything? The point is, if you go vertical with almost anything, you will lose more energy but your flaps will keep you floating for longer, which puts you firmly on their six with an altitude advantage.

    GG. Belle démonstration de combat en équipe.
    Je sous-estimais beaucoup cet avion à l'époque où je le grindais (il y a environ deux ans) parce que je le comparais toujours au monstre qu'est le Yak-3 qui est juste avant dans l'arbre technologique. Je sous-estimais l'avantage que donne une plus grande vitesse dans certaines situations (sans parler des performances à haute altitude).
    Maintenant je me rends compte que cet avion est très bon pour du 4,3.
    Le plus drôle est que, à ma connaissance, cet avion est le même que le Yak-9UT à l'exception de l'armement alors que ce dernier se situe en 5,7 soit une différence de BR de +1,4 :O Je suis pas sûr qu'un meilleur armement justifie une différence de BR aussi énorme.
    Les deux avions ont un ratio Puissance/Masse impressionnant une fois "spaded" (grimpe à 250km/h et admire ^^) mais le U est à 4,3.
    Pour la petite histoire j'ai commencer à me rendre compte de mon erreur justement lorsque je combattais les Japonais en EC où avec des Yak-1/7, des Yak-9U et UT et des La-7 on devait affronter des monstres tel que des J2Ms et des Ki-84s Hayate. Mon meilleur avion lors de ces sessions était mon Yak-9U, j'avais un peu de mal contre les J2Ms & Ki-84 mais ses performances m'ont étonné ^^

      Ouais c'est certain que les performances sont massives pour du 4.3. En effet tous les Yak9 futurs ont les mêmes performances que celui-ci. 5.7 c'est beaucoup trop élevé pour le Yak9UT.
      Dans EC Russes contre Japonais, ça devait être atroce haha. Mais ouais ça ne me surprend pas que ça soit le Yak9U qui a résisté le mieux.

    • @AdamTheEnginerd
      @AdamTheEnginerd  Před 5 lety +1

      A supercharger compresses the air before feeding it to the engine to increase the air density and hence the fuel that can be burned. In some aircraft there is more than 1 speed that the supercharger can spin it, those are called gears. At low altitude, gear 1 (lower supercharger speed) is more optimal, but as you climb eventually gear 2 becomes more optimal than gear 1 and you should switch.
      Radiator should be open just high enough to prevent overheating of oil and engine/water, and should be closed to reduce drag when running or chasing someone.

    You mentioned that the Yak-9U is the best Russian mid-tier fighter against Japanese planes, but what about the 9P and 9UT? The 9P has better armament than the 9U and the 9UT has both better armament and a better engine. Do you mean that the 9U is the best tier-for-tier?

    • @AdamTheEnginerd
      @AdamTheEnginerd  Před 5 lety

      Yeah for the BR. 9P faces Ki84s routinely and that's a different battle entirely.

      Ehh... No i can tell by experience that the 9P is not really a match for the japanese fighters at BR and the Yak-9U, P and UT shares the same engine... But, the Yak-9U have the best because It have acces to 100 oct. Fuel and the other 2 is just the normal VK-107

      Yeah it's worth flying. It has better performance than the Yak3P in most aspects, but less cannons.
