I have Windows 10 1903. Windows update not disabled, but managed with the system of the consumption connection. I use Windows Defender, so i need W.u. With this system it download only the definition or little files, but not the upgrade.
We should mention the number one reason we need to control updates and reboots on a PC; your machine might be part of a mission-critical system that MUST not reboot. We have PCs like this all over the company; machines that change the outdoor signage for a retail business. The top brass freak out when the proper lighting for the time of day is not showing. Machines that let the Security guys control the elevators. Machines that monitor refrigeration temperatures. It's a never ending battle when you find these computers sitting at a login prompt FOR NO REASON. Bottom line: we own the computers, we should be in control of when they reboot.
Guys just so you know in services, you need to disable Windows update and then click on properties. Then you need to go to the recovery tab and in first failure select take no action. Then in the second failer do the same. For the rest counter put 9999. you also need to do that for background intelligent transfer service and repeat the steps done for the windows update
Well first of all thoes two services are responsible for updates. Also the Microsoft store works with that. They will consume your data, by doing it this way your disabling it and prevent it from starting again
Tried all these methods EXACTLY as described and non worked. They seemed to stall the updates for a few weeks but then the Microsoft seems to have wormed their way around it and snook some updates on my system in the background (spotted them on "update history" in "Settings" yesterday), and... what a surprise my system is running like a turd again! BRILLIANT, thanks Microsoft you've done it again! 🤬

Microsoft is going to disable the tool mentioned in your last suggestion. The link still works and I was able to download it, but at the bottom of the tool's window there is the line "Troubleshooters have moved and this tool will be retired. Learn more." I was able to use it to hide an unwanted firmware update(those can brick your computer) but keep the defender update which I do want.
this is such BS that we have to jump through 100 hoops to disable updates we don't want on OUR computers that we OWN. the last Windows 11 update a few days ago caused my entire laptop to be useless because it messed up input from keyboard mouse etc. I need the updates to stop forever because I'm not going to let them randomly ruin my laptop. thinking about switching to Linux or similar

Hello Friend. I think this video is not an instruction for every user, but rather for people who have problems with updates and need to disable them. Everything is individual. For example, when I had a Dell Latitude E5430 laptop, a blue screen appeared quite often after receiving updates. So, with updates disabled, you will stop receiving security updates and you shouldn't turn them off if security is your top priority.

There are many reasons to disable Windows updated. The biggest reason is a windows update can stop an application from working making that application useless until either MS or the app dev comes out with a fix. People have been disabling windows update since the beginning. 🙄
