The deflect system almost reminds me a lot (in feel) of the parry in Ghost of Tsushima, when you pull it off consecutively (especially on bosses) you just feel so bad ass knocking a monster or big bad guys combo down to nothing and just turning the momentum around on them and ending with a big attack. This game really rewards you for learning movesets of your enemies and it makes getting your ass kicked feel a little more forgivable because of how awesome you feel.
Don't compare this trash to ghost lol ghost had a block/parry button this game has its parry tied to the dodge which will lead you to dodging instead of parrying and getting hit plus there's a major issue currently where the frame rates directly affect the speed of the games so any stutters or non consistent frames keeps the attacks constantly changing on there timing which makes it just annoying when you parry every attack of a combo one time the miss them completely the next time doing the same exact thing.
@@Thiccness_Is_Delicious it’s tied to the same button yeah but one tap is a parry and two taps is a dodge. Pretty easy to do them separately and it’s satisfying like a perfect parry in ghost to pull off a parry in this game. If you don’t agree that’s more than fine obviously I was just comparing the feelings of success with two mechanics in two games that give me the same badass feeling is all
@@Thiccness_Is_Delicious Geez people can’t have opinions bro? Lol
Super true. Really enjoying the game so far.
Fucking loving this game it took a while to get the hang of the parry but honestly once you get it its second nature been going through bosses like nothing it's way more forgiving in my opinion but I really like how everything flows together but I will admit this game is dividing people
5:11 What works is the thing I've been harping on for years: Consumables suck, "refillable containers" are king. You've infinite uses of the spells as long as you can spare the spirit and aren't limit locked, so you're encouraged to used them instead of being discouraged by scarcity and hoarding syndrome.
Really enjoying this game. The first boss is brutal but the game really opens up afterwards.
Tell me about it ! First phase no hit, second phase kicks my ass
It’s great I love it
Its the only moderately difficult boss in the game. The rest is a cake walk
One of my biggest pet peeves in any game is when the tutorial is the hardest part or one of the hardest parts that’s just shit design
Meanwhile I'm struggling on the Mf tiger lol
The comment about the first boss being make or break really hit home. I had several epiphany-like moments as I figured out the deeper aspects of the combat system mid fight. All in all, good game.
So the first boss was pretty hard. But I absolutely loved it, I understand it may push some people away but I gotta say he was so fun to learn his patterns and beat.
I thought I was the only one who had fun 😅

My favorite thing about this game is the addition of ai companions. Yes they are really dumb but i love how they draw aggro that allows you to catch your breath a bit. As a dynasty warriors 3-8 player i just like seeing a few of the officers here so thats nostalgia points. Also i did try the demo first and i bought the game due to the demo for sure. I probably wouldve passed on this game if not for the demo so yea
Oh man I got stuck with them drawing aggro in a few places but I didn't catch my breath it was just on the edge of making me rage lol 😂😭
Agreed. Also players DW1-8. Don't forget warrior orochi. So excited when Zhao Yun came. Parry gameplay are much cooler than just block them. Rip DW9
Dynasty warriors 4 was my sheet back in the day. I was annoying as hell qoth Cao Ren the shield dude and the shadow hair. Me and my friend did every mission combo to unlock the shadow hair.
Loved the older ones too. But after four they all felt two easy to me.
I'd use Cao Ren my bro was Dian Wei those where the days
After playing the game for a good bit I absolutely love it and for those who found the first boss to be a wall. I recommend just luring him into the corner near the cliff and face hugging in phase 1, it's super easy to just dodge/counter every critical attack as its heavily telegraphed and his basic attacks have a small wind up as well. Even if you fight him normally it's easy once you memorize his attacks as for phase 2, just get him down to half health and use the divine beast which is X and B for the cuteness.
The game also has a super easy mode in the form of reinforcements, you can have up to two and once you unlock shenlong and use the divine meter speed up skill, you basically have a full health and revive for them, it's basically like magic or ashes from Elden ring, a built in easy mode of sorts.
Day 1 patch seemingly makes a huge difference. I've had zero issues with stutter or lag, and input has been snappy. I'm pleasantly surprised by how good the game's first impression is - and I'm personally a huge fan of Diablo-style loot systems (i.e. LOADS OF LOOT). I'm playing at 1440p with more or less max (except shadows). Apparently DLSS will be introduced in coming weeks also!
mouse and keybaoard controls are terrible though. i personally play on controller but apparently nioh 2 on keyboard mouse was pretty great so idk why they messed this one up..
As a friendly advice - if you dont know how Nioh/Team Ninja are built, dont focus on loot mgmt on the 1st playthrough. It is there focused in the NG+ and over difficults.
@@ironman-fg3jh what makes it terrible, I am curious. I spent 4 hours in this game so far playing on keyboard and mouse and haven't experienced any issues
@@warriorfromhammerfell1557 they've implemented controller deadzones from what I've heard. Meaning if you don't move your mouse fast enough the screen won't move. And the menus are controller emulation instead of being pc menus. That's just what I read on steam reviews again I don't use keyboard and mouse controls
@@ironman-fg3jh didnt notice any deadzones or maybe I was too focused on the combat to notice it. As for the controller emulation like on tips and tutorials, you just need to change the Controler under Settings to Mouse Enabled and everything will be shown in Keyboard keys..
Great review as usual! The moment the combat hit for me in the demo, I knew this was an instant buy. I find the gameplay loop incredibly satisfying, with lots of different options. I do agree with the presentation and it's easily the weakest point for me: the layout of the areas is not that exciting and, like you said, the visuals sort of feel dated. The choreography during the cutscenes definitely surprised me too though; some fun stuff in those. But yea, so far, it has been living up to my excitement!
Awesome review, thank you! I played the demo, it was really fun and good. Kinda felt like I was playing Nioh 2 and Dynasty Warriors all in one game.
I kind of agree with the dodge point. I thought I was the only one feeling like it's lackluster. I haven't been able to pull one off without getting hit yet, and am starting to wonder whether or not it has I-frames in it. Kind of wondering the point if the parry is better to begin with and does more for you.
Hats off to you guys for keeping up with all of these new releases!! Great video gameranx 💙

The demo is absolutely sick. I'm so hyped for this game.

It’s worth noting that the Chinese voiceover is perfect. Nioh 2 had this same problem too, where the Japanese voice cast were fantastic but for some reason they decided to go with cockney English for the English version.
It sounds great in Chinese. The only Problem for me is, i don't understand it and in the Heat of the Battle having to read Subs literally sucks for me. So i changed it to English and the Voiceover is good.
@@TomSir79 I guess English it is then. I imagine you get used to it as the game goes on

Nioh brought back my belief in modern gaming.
Your reviews really are on-point. Every new game, I look for your review.
The setting is the Three Kingdoms Romance, same as Dynasty Warriors. My first run through the demo I quit when I found out the first boss has a second form. Then I replayed and found out I could block and parry while blocking. Wrecked that boss with no sweat. It's fun.
Just wanted to say thank you guys, great video as always
I played the demo and i always wondered why tf would people enjoy playing a game thats just incredible hard and frustating when games are meant to be relaxing and honestly i think i found out why because i was hooked and spent like 60 tries trying to beat that one first boss that has 2 phases lol ... I was mad and frustated but i still wanted to beat him and i realized that i was getting better every single time i faced him it just felt good
😅👌
Good for you for sticking it out. That first boss was by far the hardest of the first three bosses you'll face.
You get a nice title for beating him hitless. The game also lets you replay any level after you beat it including the bosses
Games are meant to be fun. For some people relaxing is what they consider fun, others like challenge, others like being scared or exploring large worlds or digging into details of systems and numbers going up. To each their own I say.
Games are not meant to be relaxing, they should be fun, and that's it
Dude, don't know how do you able to make videos so fast, but it's cool! Thx!

I’m not sure how I feel about this morale system. It sounds interesting, but when I’m struggling with a boss or farming one, I don’t like being forced to grind the map just to not be at a disadvantage. I’m guessing they didn’t like people running past enemies on a map just to get to the boss. This is a bit of an incentive to fight through the mobs.
Still doable if youre good lol. The morale rank also is used to unlock spells
I first played the game at the Tokyo Game Show September last year and I thought it was amazing. Lots of fun. The combat is definitely the star of the show.

I'm not really a Souls fan, but the way this is presented - as more of a Souls-lite experience - I think I can definitely get behind. I loved Jedi: Fallen Order so if this is similar to that (or even a tad bit tougher) then I think it will be right up my alley.
When I saw this game, it reminded me a lot of Dynasty warriors.
Didn't know they were the same studio. Awesome!
I wonder how much of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is in this game? As a Shin Sangoku Musou(Dynasty Warriors) & Soulsborne fan, I have been a bit excited to play this.

I gotta say, I love any souls like with good parry mechanics and while sekiro felt like it's own thing this game actually feels like a dark souls game with a competent parry. I love it.
Competent doesn't = easy. Many people master the Dark Souls parry, there's nothing wrong with it, and you could too with some actual effort.
@@cenciende9401 I think he is praising the parry system complement well with the dark soul style game. He never meant it is easy.
@@cenciende9401 The thing is with souls games you were never forced to learn how to parry. To me parry in those games was unreliable, unrewarding, and definitely not necessary to beat the game. Sekiro on the other hand was consistant once you got good at it, rewarding, and in most cases necessary if you wanted to beat bosses. I only played this game for 30 minutes but the combat definitely gave me the sekiro wibes and felt smooth and very rewarding...most importantly it was fun. While i enjoyed souls games i always felt as if i was almost cheesing the game by having to roll so much where as Sekiro i felt like i actually needed sill to beat the game.
@@15xgg80 Agreed, the difference between DS Parry and Sekiro Parry is that Sekiro's directly interacts with a resource that is a core mechanic of the combat. The DS parry is just an additive that's nice if you do it but not necessary/intended to be perfected/trained to progress.
@@cenciende9401 You cannot use Dark Souls parry as a reliable tool in all fights. It is unusable with any animal opponents, and too few bosses are parryable. It is a lot of risk for little return. I still master the parry as much as I can in DS games, because I like learning the movesets and countering enemies, but parry feels like an abandoned child in quite a few fights. It is a gimmick there, instead of a core mechanic.
Elden Ring is a huge improvement in that area. Not perfect, but way better than DS. Parry is still not a core mechanic, the ridiculous rolling through attacks and blocking are. The fact that parry is an Ash of War instead of a base skills says it all.
So, it is perfectly possible to master the DS/ER parry, and still consider it a lacking implementation.
Loved the video, might have to check this game out
First game I've pulled an all nighter on in years. Love this game it's great plus co op slaps

I love love love Nioh and Nioh 2! I also enjoyed Sekeiro but found it too hard. Will defo buy this! Quite excited to play this. Seems like a good mixture of both. I’m not too bothered by the lack of event variety. I even like their story telling. Yeah it’s a bit .. cringy, but I’m a sucker for it ahaha..
The key to mastering Sekiro is learning to deflect. View it as trading attacks and attacking via defending (using deflects) and youll walk it. Once it clicked for me it became one of my fav games ever.
@@tuulenkoti thing is, it worked for me for the most part, but the fucking apes .. the god damn apes ..!! Tbh there were 4 bosses that gave me too hard a time. Otherwise I found it great.

Hello Gameranx Family hope everyone enjoys the video.
Hello
Yup, sounds like a successor game to the Nioh series. Even down to some bosses being easy until you run up against 1 that will just wreck you for a few days until you get the fight down. The trend is usually moderately easy first time through if you are a fan of soulslike games, then it just ramps up and up as you replay. That's all classic Nioh stuff. Mid story + great combat and a wide selection of gear. I think I'm gonna go for this one. I loved Nioh 1 and 2 plus I enjoyed Sekiro and most other soulslike games so Its a no brainer really. I think the only thing that might make me wait a bit is if it has horrible bugs on PC or something like that.

@HighLanderPony cap. I still play ps1 games to this day. Hint: most of them are still fantastic.
Everyone says that but if a game looks like shit it takes away from the game. People have this strange view that graphics don't mean anything. Growing up with 4 bit games, graphics are as important as mechanics. You need both to make a good to great game
"You can do special attacks called: Martail Arts"
I dont know why but that made me laugh out loud. Very creative naming 😂
Didn't even know about this game but now that I do and have seen some gameplay... I might be in. Probably will wait for a slight sale since I'm already 3 new games deep RN.. but it definitely looks fun. Thanks for the video.
Super fun game but it feels a bit like a step back from Nioh 2.
Nioh 2 was IMO Team Ninja's best game. Filled with content, amazing artstyle, level design massivly improved over the first game and HUGE build variety..
...Wo Long tho feels like a budget version of that. Levels are WAY smaller and boring, artstyle is not as strong, build variety is there but it's less compeling... Overall I do hope we gonna get a sequel but for now, after finishing it, instead of going into NG+ I... installed Nioh 2 again.
I do believe they should have made the first boss a bit easier or gave you more of a fighting chance I would’ve been cool with
6 hours in and cant beat that boss , wanted to play coop , but seems I cant in the beginning.... so im sellinng that shit
@@ulfheonar9126 I ended up beating go watch my live brooski
I DONT believe they should actually. I think thats the point. That steep difficulty curve is a norm. Bum rushing isnt going to help so try to compose yourself and spend a few deaths learning the attack patterns. Youll definitely get it down.
Nioh and Nioh 2 also had parry and counter attack mechanics however since they weren’t very rewarding not many people used them + most counterattack moves or parties for certain weapons were locked In the specific weapon skill tree for each weapon.
parries in nioh also seemed super situational, sorta like dark souls vs sekiro. in dark souls/nioh, you kinda have to guess what you even CAN parry, and once you figure out what can and cant, the mere fact that some enemies are entirely uncounterable renders a parry focused build limited. in sekiro/wo long, if an enemy attacks, u can probably parry it
Cling, Clang, Pshhh, Boom, DEAD!! LOVE THAT PART. Great content ma friend, keep it up!

Haven’t had any issues on mine. Just some real time cutscene stutters.
This game has flavour 🤤
I will be real here, the gameplay isn't really all of that. It could had been more flashy instead of it being somewhat underwhelming. Like the stamina system is kind of easy to deplete in this game. When that happens you will very likely end of getting killed by the enemy.

So far I’ve found the button input pretty laggy. Not being able to deflect on time consistently and it sometimes just not even acknowledging me trying to heal in the middle of battle. If you’re going to have a fast paced game your button input needs to be flawless so hopefully this can be fixed. But other than that I’ve enjoyed the game so far.
I'm a huge fan of the Nioh games.
This was exactly where I wanted them to go with this game. I would love to see them try something different next.
Definitely influenced by Nioh 1 & 2 a LOT. Some of the enemies used are similar if not same. Even their animations. Kinda reminds me of how Elden Ring is basically the sum of all of From Software's current catalogue.

I greatly enjoyed the combat system in SoP, but the story and use of "alternate timelines" in order to not to tick off the fanbase felt like an extremely lazy copout. They wanted to rewrite an old game specifically to appeal to current generations (which I understand wanting to do for the best monetary gain and because the original story is basic as heck) which I feel was a mistake, at least for the sake of the story. I would have preferred something more similar to FF1's world over the extremely high tech world we were presented, but that's just a minor gripe. Jack was also a bit hard for me to stomach, but at least he was hilarious and provided many memes with how ridiculous he was. At least what we were provided by Team Ninja was actually pretty good and I'll essentially play most games they release because they're generally fantastic in the combat department, SoP being no exception with their classes and great combat.
