- Order ‘1977’ splatter vinyl here: ashband.lnk.to/1977ID
Ash’s debut LP ‘1977’ has been reissued for the first time on stunning black and white splatter vinyl. This spectacular debut release was a defining record for 90s guitar music, reaching No.1 in the Official UK Albums Chart, and going to achieve platinum status. It includes singles ‘Girl From Mars’, ‘Kung Fu’, ‘Goldfinger’, ‘Angel Interceptor’ and ‘Oh Yeah’ which remain staples of the Ash’s live show.
This is the first time the album has been re-issued since its 1996 release.
The summer of 1996 belonged to Ash; following the chart topping ‘1977’ and ‘Goldfinger,’ ‘Oh Yeah’, the fifth single from the band’s number 1 debut album crashed into the UK Top 10. The festival season crescendoed at Reading Festival, with over 60,000 heat-scorched bodies singing along to, ‘Oh Yeah’, the anthem of the summer.
Five consecutive sold out nights at the London Astoria followed, along with the self-funded (and disowned) tour excess documentary ‘Teenage Wildlife’, narrated by (Obi-wan Kenobi) Ewan McGregor.
Produced by Owen Morris and recorded at Rockfield Studios, ‘Oh Yeah’ features backing vocals from Lisa Moorish (Oasis - Fade Away, Warchild). The video was banned by the BBC’s iconic Top Of The Pops TV show.
‘Oh Yeah’ featured in the 1996 episode of RTE’s Reeling in the Years.

I miss this band and I miss the great optimism I had for life when this song came out... sometimes I wish it was 'That Summer' again...
Talalay99 true
Correct
The best time of my life was watching this band at a free festival when I was a teenager. What happened?
Your parents would have said the same thing upon hearing the Beatles Help! In about 1986.
Leas cliff Hall Folkestone 1998 good times. Savage times
Saw them at Glasgow Barrowlands on Wednesday.Still got it👍
Summer '96 and '97. 16/17 years old. My best mate's English cousin. Vividly remember listening to this song with her and feeling like the king of the world. Oh to back there again.....
Hey Ash! Thank you for making my early-mid 20s some of the greatest days I'll ever have. You guys were part of the soundtrack. God bless lads, I hope life treats you all well X
Dear me, I was 17 or 18 ... And here we are in 2020 still loving the same music!!😊😛
Same here, I was 13... omg
Me too..
I had a crush on him haha
I was 14 y👀😳😳. Where the hell did the time go😳😂🤣
strange, iam 44 and i had the chance to see them live 25 y.ago :)
So many bitter sweet memories come to me from this song.
It's like the soundtrack to the life I never had.
That summer was '97 for me, almost the exact scenario as this song, but damn this song takes me back...this may be the perfect, ultimate pop rock song to describe young love. Not your first crush, but being a little bit older, later in your teens, old enough to be going out and doing something with your teenage passion, not old enough to realise how ephemeral it all is and not caring...
No one here April 2024?
Ha ha. Putting together a song list for a party. It was amazing when Ash released their first three singles. Huge hopes for a new pop/rock revival but apart from a few hits ftom some other bands it all fizzled out...
Brilliant band,oh yeah,lead guitar,blew away ❤
Yep. Uncle Pat and Kung Fu. Super top tunes.
June 2024
Its timeless songs.
Damn, why am I tearing up?
Nostalgia can do that
Still listening 24 years later. I'll listen until the day I die.
I first heard this song when I was 14.
And I still listen to this album.
At the age of 40
It's a gorgeous song! I heard it first back in 1996. Fell in love with it instantly. Always a pleasure to watch the clip and listen to this song.
Oh yeah!
isnt that such a wonderful feeling. knowing we are still feeling the same way with our sound of music. the memories are still so intact xxx
music is our memories and also our smiles and our thoughts that will never be diminished. we are actually friends to a wonderful extent forever. things happened and only we know the happy and the sad times because we come from the same place xxx
The summers from 95 to 96 for me were the best ever.
Single guy, no ties, great music.
And I was saving for the best holiday I ever had.
3 weeks in california and Vegas.
Was a great time to be alive.
Same here except replace LA and Vegas with London.
What the hell happened?
How can the best holiday you ever had be full of Americans?
Yep. Half life just gone like that👀. Why can't we just stay young forever with optimistic life ahead.

I was 17 when this song came out and I bought the album. My college friend Gary would listen to it in his bedroom as we went to his house for lunch. Kinda fancied him though nothing happened between us this song just summed up what I was feeling.🥰❤️😊
My mind is blown, how this doesn’t have a billion views is beyond me! This was an epic summer tune in 96, I was in my early 20’s thinking I’d lived and knew it all! Ha ha I didn’t know Jack shit about anything! I’m lucky corn beef sandwiches r a thing or I’d if starved!
Solid album. I remember getting paid and going to the record shop after work. Still know all the words like it was yesterday.
Yes, this song (and 90's music and general) and the lyrics "start of the summer" shows how exciting times used to be.
We've been lucky to live the 90's and all this music,,the last years of good music!!!i miss 90's!!!!
Always proud and be Happy for all of you the 90s Generation...
Love this tune - '96 was a great year for music. i turn 30 this year and it breaks my heart a little that i've never found love, never had the sweet sensational summer days and nights that this beautiful tune evokes for lots of reasons i won't bore you with.
the 90s were awesome. Being alive is awesome but, damn, it can really hurt.
peace, youtubers
SimonB198207 sometimes when we’re older we have moments we can turn on 90s music and for a time we can be young again and make memories 🌟☀️
Trust me it wasn’t as good as it sounds lol heart broken at 16-18 feels like the world is going to end! No Friday Saturday nights down the railway tracks under the bridge with mate, girls and a carry out, some strong bow and mad dog 20/20 lol aye those where great times I guess! Funny I can still see my childhood love, clear as day, school skirt and all lol
@Marvin Morawski Marvin, it can still happen my man.
How are you going now?
Hope you've found love by now.
This was played on Paul Gambaccini today, 25 years ago this was in the charts and just wow, this song time travels well , took me back to pure joy, and they still got it! Incredible song
This is probably the first I've heard this song since the 90s, I finally looked it up as it's a song I find myself singing in the shower regularly enough, and I have done for decades. 😂
I forgot that it was by Ash, one of the most memorable gigs of my life was Therapy? and Ash in Ulster Hall, which I just looked up and realised was 1995, which means I was only 13. I did so much crowd-surfing at that gig. Shocking to realise how young I was.
Will we ever get music as good as this again, the 90's, the last of the great music
On tour this year.... get out and see them
Yeah, you just have to literally search the 4 corners of the world to find it.
Not in the lamestream but there are decent bands out there.
Yes 80's and 90's had epic music. But since the 2000 started music went majorly down hill. A couploe of decent dance hits in the early 2000 but nothing since then.
If you keep listening to these guys it can only get better!!!! Believe!!!!
I was 15 when this record was released. I remember listening to it two times a day while in the car with my dad for MONTHS.He ended up singing (in his own special way) every fucking masterpiece (and hating them a bit, because of the exploitation), but god, it was the good life.
The guitar solo in this bang on.
They were still at school when writing these if I remember rightly.
You don't learn songwriting like that in one lifetime ❤
one of the best albums of all time...b'gosh i love this song!

Deadly tune 🇮🇪
They're great band, loads of solid hits.
his voice is quite one moment, then its a wonderful sound of every instrument to the fucking cord and alll the iriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiishhhhhhhhhhhhhh xxx
Ash were a good band, yeah. They crossed over into other genre's as well, not just pure indie, there were some punky/alternative songs too. This made them appeal to a wider audience. Great live band too.
Oh my god, so many memories...one of the best band from the 90s and they still rock
ha ha i was in a rock band at the time also but i absolutely loved this band xxx
First time i watch this video... Great song!!!
What a classic irish tune!
This song brings back memories of good times long gone.
one of my favorites from ash. what an amazing band!
I seen them open for weezer in 96 and literally everyone stayed seated and singer went and grabbed a chair and set down and finished the show sitting.
Great song from a forgotten band.
Almost makes me feel like I'm 15 again
I was six and i listened it for the first time. Now I'm 23 and I'm still into it.
It's like some one saying don't be eating too much cheese before bed for fear of night mates. I love cheese. It makes a story for sake

Seen them live in Belfast 1997. They supported U2. I was just turning 18 years old. Great times in the 90s.

Some great songs they have 😀😎
Such a great song 👍👍👍
i love how the rain only starts pouring when the camera starts recording :D
Oh yes! I remember when I was 13 I listened to one CD for at least a year. It was the sampler "Air&Style - Vol. I". That one was the last song and I was preparing to press the play button again. It still feels like I have to stand up and go to the HiFi tower now. Thrown back 20 years, awesome! :D
Great time for music, I too was 13
I love your voice. I remember Glastonbury Fella. What a crush I had 😄
takes me back to being like 13 again, in belfast in my mates house, how this song still sums up so many summers......love ash, timeless, live on girl from 'ards'
