Thanks for another informative video. I own the TPH in both .25 ACP and .22 LR. My .25 has never failed, the .22 likes the high velocity ammo (anything CCI or Federal Punch). Both pistols are typical of fixed-barrel, Walther accuracy. The TPH is truly a work of art.
I've fired Stingers since I first got mine almost 44 years ago. It shows pocket carry wear but functions flawlessly. I need some mags, and my mag's plastic floor plate is cracking.

Oh yeah, mine like the hyper velocity ammo too. Surprisingly, the Remington Yellow Jackets and Vipers. I can’t believe they function so well with those little truncated cone bullets.
The True King is the Walther TP
I have a 22LR Walther TPH and a Walther PP both Made in West Germany before its reunification with East Germany. Both are beautifully made and highly reliable. I use CCI Stingers and Remington Yellow Jackets.
Mine loves the Yellow Jackets.
I carried a German model from ‘79 - ‘90. Relegated it to the safe when I bought the stainless model, which I have carried daily since. Love this little gun.
I had the same, but it was since in 1974. That’s is an incredible pistol!
I bought mine in 1988....(Interarms .22) !!! Glad I bought three extra $25.00 mags !!!!

I've had my German blue steel for going on 44 years.... if only I had some extra mags. I asked Walther USA to please, please bring the TPH back, and in my case, I'd be happy with mags. My plastic mag floor plate is cracking... bummer. Thanks Sootch!

Mags are expensive but triple k makes a mag with a Walther type floor plate that is reliable. I generally carry two spare Walther mags, and a triple k in my change pocket, and an MTM 30 round ammo wallet, in case I find a scenario where I need more rounds and the little tph is all I have. I can put shots on target to 25 yards with no problem

I live and hunt in Germany. And i use it for trap hunt, in Caliber 25 acp / 6,35browning.
I have one of the first models, made in Germany, and i bought it for only €200 euro really cheap, with 3 magazines.

I bought a used one (still in the box) in the late 80’s. I use to tuck it into my motocross boots while riding and it was easy to carry backpacking. Still in my safe along with the box..

Discovered these bad boys a few months ago, and found two in my local gun store recently. Ended up buying both on the spot.
I bought one in the late ‘80’s and liked it so much I bought another in the early ‘90’s. Back then, they ran $325, which was steep at the time for a little 22 like that, but I liked them and splurged. I almost bought a 3rd in blue instead of the usual stainless, but backed off the deal. Now, I wish I’d just splurged one more time. They are very cool little guns and beautifully designed. Interarms did a wonderful job manufacturing them too, in my opinion. I would love to see them produced again.

I have Iver Johnson TP22 that is almost identical to this gun. Super accurate little 22 pistol.
It has both an interesting and compact appearance and a good and excellent build quality and a good design, and it is a well-known and reliable company
Just bought a nice Stainless Steel TPH (S/N is circa 1989) Can’t wait to take it out plinking. Will be my Back-up EDC. Gorgeous little pistol for being 35+ yrs old.
Had a TPH many years ago. Accurate, reliable and the single action trigger pull was like 1lb.! One that got away…😢

A friend of mine bought one new ‘89 - ‘90 ish. The one he had jammed a lot. But, I always thought it was a cool gun. Probably because it looks like a PPK and I’m a big Bond fan. I bought a Beretta 87BB about the same time. Another beautiful gun and ran much better than my friends TPH. I still have the Beretta.

I knew a guy who had this in .22 LR. You could not hit a coke can at 5 yards with it. In fact, he won many bets by telling people that and having them try. If you held anywhere on the can, it would not connect.
The TPH was also named that way to distinguish it better from the TP model they already manufactured at that time. The TP was manufactured between 1962 to 1971, was a striker fired pocket pistol, also available in .22 lr and 6.35mm Browning (.25ACP).
Having two technically different pistols under the same name would have been a bad idea, so they added the H to the new one.
Estimates are round about 55.000 TPH were produced between 1968 and 1997. All have a six digit serial number above 250000. So we can assume they started the numbering with that. It was not differentiated between the calibers for serialising the guns.
On the original design of the TPH it was possible to disassemble the gun with the magazine inserted, but that was one of the only three design changes done over the time it was manufactured. The others were trigger catch and release lever, with the possibility of retrofitting the new parts on older guns. Additional pin for the magazine release.

I had one of these in .22. I bought it in 1993, then sold it. Not one of my better decisions. As I remember mine liked CCI and hated Remington. After I sold it I put an order in for another TPH in .25. I had the order in for years and never got the gun. It was a one dollar deposit. In 1994 I bought a PPKs and still have that gun. 30 years old and maybe I put 250 rounds through it. When I qualified for my CCW permit I included the PPK. The gun inspector told me not to carry the gun; not to fire the gun as in the condition that it is in it was worth considerable money. So, it's back in the safe. Bought a Seecamp in .32. When that gun was originally designed it was in .25. That is what I want and wanted for some 30 years. I may never get that gun either, especially in CA. God knows, that I am patient. If Walther ever makes the TPH in either .22 or .25 I will have that gun as well. I will put in their suggestion box....

Great Video.I was fortunate to own 3 of these and in California no less. Sold one only on the fact that I felt like a hoarder, Still have a stainless and a stone mint German blued model in the wood looking factory box with three factory mags that I will probably be buried with . Those mag for them are pricy cinders I was able to pick up two extra in stainless last month $180 for the pair and that was a screamer of a deal . Keep up the great content!
My 1968 PPK in 22lr has the same issue with double action. Trying to be slow and precise with the double action often results in light strikes. It does always work when I pull the trigger fast. Then again, that's actually the best way, because the double action trigger is very heavy.

I've got an iver johnson tp22 that is pretty much the same thing just made from cheaper materials also made in Germany but by Erma instead of Walter it was my grandfather's before I inherited it after he died he could draw that little thing from his appendix and put every round on target from the hip in a matter of a few seconds I mean scary quick made me think he was an assassin for the c.i.a. back in the day lol
I had one of the TP22 made in Arkansas and mine was perfectly reliable, and accurate too. That rising hammer-blocking safety was a unique bit of engineering! Another one that I regret trading off............................elsullo

Reminds me of my Iver Johnson TP .22 that I purchased 20 years ago and still have. I paid $125.00 for it. It is a bit finicky, in that you need to make sure you have a strong .22 LR or it will not cycle. Also, the TP .22 held 7 rounds in the magazine. 8 if you are dumb enough to keep one in the chamber. Very reliable pocket pistol.
You got one that works! Good for you. Mine was a piece of excrement. Pulling the trigger DA wouldn't let the hammer strike. Beautiful looking only.
Good content ! I had some experience with a couple TPH pistols over the years. The versions made in Germany do have an aluminium frame and are a couple oz lighter. They were all and only made in blued finish.The .25 ACP are very reliable and both versions are Imho beautyfull pistols of superb quality.
As one mentioned here before,an extra power Wulf gunsprings Hammerspring does help a lot to clear the DA light strike issue.comments about reliabilty problems with the TPH are often heard, there is maybe some advice i can give about that. First the usual - keep the gun clean and mechanically sound. Use CCI Minimag or other high
quality high velocity ammo. Hold the gun in a way that you don' t get hammerbite,do not touch the slide in any way while firing. The whole setup regarding slide mass + spring strenght is very sensible . Load only the 6 rounds in the magazine - many tph mags take a 7th round but that already puts to much pressure to the bottom of the slide and results in malfunctions. And, even it sounds ridiculous with that little thing, do not limbwrist it . Here in Germany, because of the strict gunlaws the TPH can be bought almost for a song - they sell between 150 to 200 Euros -as most licensed persons are limited to a certain number of handguns and simply have no use for it exept for a couple hunters that do trap hunting.

I was so surprised to see this video pop up. I picked one of these up a few years ago. It didn't come with the box or the 2nd magazine though. I've been looking for an extra magazine ever since ... no luck yet. I love the gun too.
Triple K makes TPH magazines, though I haven't tried them. My TPH had two magazines with it, luckily.

German blued versions were offered in alloy frame, the Interarms blue versions were all steel. I have two of the stainless 22 lr Interarms versions. The first was an early version I paid under $250 , the second d one used around 8 years ago for $495. I bought 3 extra magazines from same vendor for $75 forthree Both pistols are accurate and reliable, good deep cover or backups. Not Mouse gun, but will put down a two legged rat. Walther should offer these again

Dry firing a .22lr doesn't always damage the firing pin. Only on guns with greater range to motion, aka cheaper designs. You can check by manually pushing the pin out to the max range and comparing it with the headspace. Many aren't that way no more.
And yes, the CIA has carried them and, to a limited extent, the Mossad, and also many others. Great arms. I love all my Walthers!

they should bring this gem back. maybe with an aluminum frame. and finagle the mag to hold one more round. and make it in both 22 and 25 calibers. I will bet in 25 auto the gun would handle Buffalo Bores 60 grain 25 auto load with ease.it is a nice FLAT small handgun that is just made right for pocket carry.

Am glad you were able to get your hands on one. I remember reading about these in the gun rags and told myself that I wanted one. After a long search I stumbled on one at a big box sporting goods store. I thought I have to have that, never thought I would ever find one. They had just put it out in the case. I was the first to see it and it came home with me! I paid 350.00 for it and didn’t think twice. As far as mags go they are hard to find at a good price. Happy new year and all the best!
If you push the trigger guard slightly to the side when lowered, it will stay on the frame

I used to have a tph and the one problem I had was that the safety broke in two. I fired it a lot and all the impact eventually broke the safety. I think it is a good idea to have a spare safety or two for this pistol.
It is. The magazine catch broke on mine. Fortunately parts are readily available for now. I have a spare firing pin and magazine catch, and another safety would be a pretty good idea because that part also serves as a stop for the hammer, and this is an inertial firing pin gun. The safety absorbs every impact of the hammer. I could make any part for it if necessary, but I wouldn't want to have to. They're generally complex and intricate and would require a great deal of labor and time to reproduce.
Just picked up a Ranger PPKS. Bit the hell out of my hand (first time I've ever experienced that) but with a slight grip adjustment it was fine. Great little guns.

A slip-on rubber grip sleeve with a finger ridge will let you clench the grip lower in your hand and avoid The Bite. Mine did!.........................elsullo

In Europe, the situation with mouse guns availability is completely different. After not being able to get Beretta 21, I got TPH for price of half a glock

I never had a desire for it, because my common sense told me that it was a limited production, and that if you bought something you better buy lots of magazines, and being a rimfire, you better buy the firing pin, and all the other springs that might come with it, and the ejector and extractor
Even back, then, I had a little bit of common sense of knowing whether or not a firearm might not be available with parts
Also, as a personal issue, I’ve never liked the action of the Walther PPK it’s very harsh almost a waste you be better off, cocking the hammer back
So I’m glad you like it. I’m also not surprised, knowing that you have to guard the magazine and the firing pin and firing pin parts very carefully in handling this guy cause they’re almost irreplaceable.

Awhile back, there was a seller on eBay that had quite a number of spare parts for sale for this gun. They weren’t horribly priced so I snatched up duplicates of everything he had available that I thought might be prone to breaking. Grips, pins, springs, firing pins, levers, who knows what else. It gave me a little piece of mind to know I might be able to keep my gun running, if parts broke.

TPHs are indeed finicky. I had to perform all kinds of trickery on mine to get it to run properly. But it will now feed anything you can put in it and runs CCI Mini Mag as well as any .22 auto. Still very sensitive to ammunition. Some loads just won't cycle it consistently, others have frequent misfires, especially in DA. Though everything sets off on the second try. Light DA strikes are common to the TPH, and every example I've seen over the years has been somewhat finicky. Very good sights and sight regulation for such a tiny gun. I carry mine almost at all times. They're just so cool. The CIA did make use of them as an individual purchase gun. Partly because Interarms was very close to the headquarters in Langley.
I want a blued one with the aluminum lower reciever.
I have seen used in very good condition US stainless Tph, on Gunbroker for $700-900.

I used to have a couple of those, but they’re fat little buggers. Good guns though.
I’m surprised these PPK designs are not being brought back with aluminum or polymer frames and other components. Great working good looking designs, the only problem is weight. That could be fixed with lighter materials.

I believe an aluminum alloy frame would easily hold up to heavy use. Maybe even polymer, who knows?

You left out the Walther PPQ M2 .22lr. It is faster firing, uses the Walther threaded adapter, and is built for excellent reliability suppressed. Unsuppressed, all of the models are reliable.

Who makes the aluminum butt plate? My 3 stock butt plates cracked years ago and I found aftermarket replacements.

Picked up a Wlather TPH .22lr in 2015 for $400, it's going to the gunsmith to replace a broken trigger return spring, other than that it's been awesome. Only thing that I hate is trying to find spare mags, and when I do they're $100 minimum.

Parts aren't too hard to come by. When I got my TPH it didn't work at all in double action. I got a new old stock trigger bar, a later model firing pin, and a heavier Wolff hammer spring. Since those repairs and upgrades, I've had reliable ignition in DA. The DA pull is a probably a bit heavier now, but I don't have an unmodified TPH to compare it to. It's a jewel of a pocket gun.
This is the first I've heard of an issue with the mag base plates. I have 3 mags, and none show any signs of impending failure.
I had a similar experience: the original trigger bar was just a tiny bit too short. Clearly not tested at the factory!...............................elsullo
My TPH is relegated to the safe because one of my three magazines had the thin slot of the baseplate break off and the second one has begun to crack. The third is pristine. I felt carrying it in my pants pocket was the cause. Where can I get the aluminum baseplates? Probably have shot rounds through it sine I bought it new in the box. Looks like I made a good investment.
Anyone ever hear of a budishowsky? It reminds me of a smith and wesson model 39. If you can find one its a lot cheaper than what the TPH goes for. Ive been seeing the TPH for $900-950 for years and noone buys them.
