Was this the Sounders first team? You see it a lot in Spain with the Copa del Rey and other local tournaments in other leagues - top sides have other commitments and this isn’t a priority so you sometimes see some big upsets.
NYCFC 2 also eliminated two USL Championship teams on their way to the round of 16. I'm not going to argue that MLS Next Pro(Division 3) is better than USL because that's not how it works. Enjoy the tournament for what it is. Enjoy the upsets. Don't make more of the upsets than the one game than they are.
Any given Sunday you can win or lose. And while usl is a second division, the MLS players aren’t so elite where they can’t lose to worse competition. Barcelona would prob never lose to a usl team. Maybe if they played 100 times they’d lose once- create 12 chances score none then the other team gets a PK or something. MLS? They’d lose 20-30 times because they aren’t all that good either. MLS is a second tier division of world soccer.
Benjie couldn't admit that if the MLS was a real first division league, they'd fully participate in the Open Cup. As it is, they're too scared to do so.
I'm not getting into any debate. I'll just say i like what USL is doing and I would definitely watch if i wasn't busy. I'm an MLS fan, but not too fond of Garber.

LAFC 2 (MLSNextPro) eliminated Monterey Bay USLPro team last year. The team's roster was full of 18 - 19yr old kids minus the GK who was 37. LAFC has beat 4 USL teams Sacramento Republic - Orange County SC - Fresno FC and Las Vegas Lights. USL can compete vs lower table MLS teams, but Ben Olsen is correct. Some of these USL teams can't even fill up a 5K stadium like Orange County SC. If LAFC lose to USL team it won't change anything but embarrassed LAFC & MLS because of the amount of difference in resources both teams have.
Monterrey bay was formed last year, so they had very little experience on the roster. A lot of the matches are hosted on mls practice pitches if the mls team is the host in early rounds, meaning fan support doesnt really matter.
compared to what league? MX league? Mexico has only 2 or 3 good teams that would fight for the 1st or 2nd place in the MLS. The rest of the teams in Mexico are avarege at best. The same goes for every league in South America. Maybe Argentina, Brazil have 4 or 5 teams that are good but the rest are very mediocre and let's not talk about Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela. Each of those countries have 1 or 2 teams decent but the rest of the teams would demolish in the MLS. The same goes to some European leagues. Some of those leagues are not all that.

He paused and said "It's not even close" shots fired. It's pretty close - as evident by his team with the millionaire owner and "DP" players getting knocked out.
You can tell in his tone he’s salty and taking shots. No clue how you missed that. Even goes as far as to say that was his best open cup squad? LMAO that is obvious delusion and frustration over the loss
The question was stupid. These takes are stupid. They tried to get Olsen to say Detroit was as good as MLS teams. If you watched any amount of that game you would know how stupid that is.
3:43- Seb is right and I always say this. When you think about it this way USL isn't that far off of MLS level. Not every team in MLS is better than USL teams even with the cash. Also MLS is chock full of Caribbean scrubs that may as well be playing in USL or wherever they are from. Some of them are horrible and on big wages for MLS.
100% this. Is USL a second division league? Yeah maybe. Is the mls a second division league? Yeah maybe 😂😂. Like the talent level of mls wouldn’t be near a top division in Europe so what are we talking about? They both kinda suck (relative to Europe or even South America). Especially defenders. So save it. Yeah mls is better than usl, but not by a whopping margin. If Detroit city played Houston 100 times maybe they win 20-30 times. If they play man city they win 0/100. Levels

Not to mention with what the franchise fees are, you either have to stack the deck so I don’t get relegated my first year, or there is no reason for the exorbitant fees.
Without promotion relegation in the US, we will never have a real contest. To be fair, houaton has been so bad historically that they would have been relegated multiple times by now
The US doesn’t support soccer enough for promotion/relegation to work. You’d have the same situation we had in the 80’s where there’s one or two big teams but everyone else goes bankrupt.
